Hmm, was this the first 30+ game Amar'e has had this season?
And on the topic of all-star reserves; if Luol Deng doesn't make the reserves I'll be really disappointed - backup center should be Hibbert > Noah (the latter has only played to his normal level the last 1 1/2 weeks)
Edit: Oh, it was his first 25+ game of the season, damn..
|
for the all star pick, here's a couple homers !!! lol. deng and noah both aren't going, they aren't all stars, bargnani has a better chance than all three of those players.
|
Clips land Kenyon Martin. Let's see if he can teach some defense to Blake.
|
Deng isn't going to get a nod I don't think, but he's definitely the kind of guy who is respected league wide as the type of player you NEED in order to make it deep in the playoffs.

clippers pretty stacked atm

If it's up to the coaches, then I think he will.. he embodies all the traits that a NBA coach loves, so I can't find a good reason as to why he wouldn't get picked

you honestly think deng is more of an all star than kg, pierce, melo, amare, bosh, david west and josh smith? come on now. more of a winner than half the list. a better defender than half the list. an all star above these guys? nope.

More of a winner? What kind of criteria is that? Do you measure it by how many championships they have (which leaves only KG & Pierce), how many games their team has won (which leaves none), progress in the playoffs lately (where Bosh is the only one who went further, and he should be one of the reserve forwards IMO)..?
Do I think he's a better defender than a lot of the players you named? Hell yeah, I do..
Not sure why you even mention Melo, as he is already picked for the All-Star game.. but he's not more of a winner (though, you might have some spaced out idea as to what a winner is) nor a better defender than Deng..
Edit: Just to show how good of a defender and how integral Deng is, in the seven games without him, the Bulls have allowed 102 points per 100 possessions, after allowing just 93 in their first 18. That's a HUGE difference
|
you totally misunderstood what I said. I said deng is more of a winner and a better defender, and I was just listing forwards in the east more likely to make an all star game, just forgot lebron.
you really are quantifying the all star game to be some sort of mathematical equation due to performance over the past 20 games, this isn't the case, the nba selects players who have the highest upside in roi when promoted. sorry that pierce and kg are future hall of famers with an incresibly loyal fanbase, but them coupled with lebron and bosh and melo and amare will prevent any other forwards drom making an all star game
its like a jazz fan who can't be mad millsap isn't an all star, because dirk and tim duncan are.
|
I think you misunderstood Holcan's post. He is saying Deng is more of a winner...though would not be chosen for the All Star team bc of how the players are chosen.
If Granger wasn't having a somewhat down season, we know he would be in the running also. I agree with the Deng injury hurting his chances also.
edit: oops beat by Holcan above ^^
|
Coaches choose reserves. I think every coach knows how valuable Deng is. If he wasn't injured he'd be a lock. He probably still has a good chance of getting a spot.
|
oh don't be so naive, coaches suggest, david stern picks. if the nba gets a better roi by promoting bargnani as an all star, you best believe he gets in over a coach voted munroe.
|
valuable does not always equal All-star though. There are only a certain number of spots to give out and sometimes the valuable-but-less-flashy player are the ones assed out over bigger names. Luis Scola is considered a valuable player...
With that said I agree with your statement, but only bc of the lack of SF all-star candidates for the eastern conference this season after Lebron. Deng is one of them top ones and he actually has skillls, he's not a regular schmoe who is boring to watch.
Any love for igoudala though?
|
I was confused by it, because earlier I had mentioned that coaches pick reserves, therefore Deng should be an obvious pick..
I would love to see Iggy in the all-star match, he has really bought into the team idea, so even if he's numbers are down, his contribution is way bigger.. However I'd still want to see Deng instead of Iggy, first as a Bulls fan, and second because I felt he was left out last year (not necessairly from the All-Star game, but All-Team recognitions)
|
I've mentioned multiple times that 20 games is to small of a sample size, most coaches haven't faced every player, they will going off career merit, and possibility to become superstar players. Deng has neither of these. He is a fantastic player, but the nba all star weekend is about manufacturing superstars.
|
Coaches know what players stand for from last season and obviously know where they have them from whether or not they've kept the pace up.. at least they should.. if they go by earlier achievements then that's just retarded, regardless of sample siz.
|
ugh my grizzlies are just choking away the game to the thunder.
|
My oh my, Paul George! This kid is turning it on now. Torches the Nets, was doing well against the Wolves until foul trouble, and tonight against the Mavs, well Dallas never had a chance. 30 points (11-19, 7-11 from 3), 9 boards, 5 assists, 5 steals and one nasty block that lead to a 3 of his own on the other end.
This kid is going to be very special very soon. His last three games:
21.3 PPG, 64% FG, 86% FT, 60% 3PT FG, 5.7 RB, 2.3AS, 2.7ST, 31MIN
