Yeah, I agree with that review.
I totally understand the criticism of the Assault Class... It really feels a little random to play it... Why? 1.: Do I actually "hit" him (that’s a problem all "fast" games with melees have). 2.: Do I need 1/2/3+ Hits? It's not much of an Issue with the Hammer, its 1 or 2... But with the Axe? I see myself sometimes slaughtering stuff with it as if it would be a Hammer and other times it barely seems to hurt... 3: What kind of weapon does that "Tac" have... "oh, he has Dual-Bolter or Melter?"... Better pray that he screws up his dodging....
Seriously, playing Assault feels so random (and ping dependant) to me, I don't get much fun out of it and only pick it if it seems the smartest choice in the situation my team is in (I play mainly annexation).

there are too many of them to just start ~~
It's been posted here already.
Eisenhorn trilogy Ravenor (as a continuation to Eisenhorn) Horus Heresy series Gaunt's Ghosts series
Can't go wrong with those.

For proper 40k fluff the must-read books are Index Astartes 1/2 +added publications and xenology. Other than that various edition rulebooks and codicies hold the canon fluff. 90% of Black library books are about characters that for some reason end up breaking canon.

that German review is a joke.. never thought much of 4players. i wouldn't give it too much attention. most of their contra points are just silly

I wonder, why are 5 Maps not enough?
My memories of Multiplayer-Shooters tell me that 5 is more than enough? Half Life 1 Deathmatch (oh it was so glorious!)... Mostly on Datacore... Actually nearly only on Datacore... From time to time some others (3-4?) but if I wanted a "good" game where not some super weapon is dominating? --> Datacore. Quake 3/UT/CS/Battlefield?..... There never were "tons" of maps that actually got played (at least not in "normal" gamemodes. I seriously wonder? What for do you need more maps?... I actually like them because they are "different" from each other. There are 2 maps I dislike, but others I talked with seemed to love exactly these (I really don't like the bridge map and seem to be pretty alone with that).
Only 2 gamemodes? Well.. There is obviously no FFA (which I doubt would be any good in this game) and CTF is missing (which would probably be hard to make work/would need very "good" Mapdesign). Else? Whats missing? I really don't get it... Do you have these modes in CS and battlefield? The only games which (had) a noteable CTF community where Quake, UT and naturally Team Fortress (which lacks other stuff?)?

After a long sessions yesterday I'm really feeling like Tac marine might be overpowered. I'm really starting to get good as using the roll ability, and the melta gun is just SO strong. I had scores like 20-4, 27-9, 25-5 like 5 games in a row, and it just felt unfair. Assault just simple doesn't stand a chance if you use the roll properly. The Stalker bolter will also win pretty much any long range fight for you. The only time you will really lose is if you find yourself without cover versus a deployed heavy bolter, which just means you played bad. The maps are layed out in a way that really favors this style of play I feel. It's so easy to avoid medium range combat, making alot of weapons alot weaker imo.
Also I actually prefer the regular bolter over the storm bolter to be honest. The storm bolter feels so much like hipfiring an M60 or something in a CoD game, which really isn't my thing. Even though the storm bolter has twice the rate of fire, I hit more rounds with the regular bolter, just because it's so much more stable and accurate. Also the fact that kraken bolts are strong vs multiple targets doesn't mean it's weak vs a single target.

Smartest review yet as it takes into account the fact that Relic will support this through Steam. New game mode free DLC is coming and there should be a fair bit more (reasonably priced) after that.

I was looking for a file to change sound settings from 5.1 to 2.0 when I came across what Relic considers to be "bad words". I have no idea what half these words even mean.
You can find it in your steam directory here: + Show Spoiler +Steam\steamapps\common\warhammer 40,000 space marine\data\config\badwords.xml
Now that I've helped you expand your vocabulary, can you help me with my sound problem?

Also you can't really implement CTF in a game where there are 3 classes, one highly mobile and one almost immobile. I wouldn't mind unlockable paths, manufactorum and the sewer map come to mind, but if they end up like shattered bridge there is honestly no point implementing them.

Got the game today, been breezing through the campaign on Hard(there really is not a lot of challenge, at least until Chaos), but now I'm stuck on Nemeroth... what a jump in difficulty. Looking forward to trying MP.
The Emperor protects.

It seems like the assault class is majorly underpowered in Multiplayer. You only have a decent chance of killing someone (who is skilled) 1on1, but are forced into overwhelming odds quite often.
I was killing assault marines easily at level 1 with my standard bolter and no perks since I can weaken them in midair then finish them off on the ground. I had a 3:1 KDR with a standard bolter Tact and a 1:3 KDR when I tried using the assault class.
Assault needs a faster running speed or a longer distance charge or something along those lines.

Manual control of jump jets, such goodness. For those of you looking to purchase the game: http://cdkeyshere.com/warhammer-40000-space-marine-cd-key.html~$25 Put the cdkey in steam, download and you're good to go From my experience with these sellers, they seem pretty good. I haven't had any problems so far.
why isn't this being upvoted?! this man saved me $25 and a lot of time. Thank you.
Got my key within 5 minutes of ordering. But to be honest I have no idea how their business works because a key is still a key to the FULL game so I do not understand how they are selling for so low! Amazing. How are they getting their cuts?
It seems like they take out the key from the boxes but what good is the box and CD with no key to play? And there can't possibly be a market for the manual and box art. w/e thanks again TMStarcraft!

Tactical marine seems to be far and away the best class for PvP, though its annoying as hell when assault marines and devastators work together.
|
god im having too much fun. i love the PvP. cant wait to unlock most of the stuff so I can find a playstyle that suits me best.
I am thinking Assault with some overpowered gun.

TB probably wont do a lets play but I am pretty sure others will start popping up on Youtube. might be awhile though.
P.S.
I thought Assault was OP but they are real easy to dodge and Tac marines with their melta guns?? and Bolters are ownage. however, assault is able to overcome with skill and surprise so I feel like the game is very balanced.

Just ordered this off the link for $25, hoping that it'll be quick but since it's 10pm on a friday I'm thinking I probably won't get my key for a little while, either way I'll edit this post once I find out if I get screwed
Hoping with this linked to paypal it's legit
