Following the success when somebody posted about Siglemics speedrunning marathon of mario 64 (this is when i was introduced to the insane skill of speedruning) ive decided to post about this one!

So Cosmo is a leading ocarina of time speedrunner and has just begun his 24 hour stream! If you like zelda and you want to relive those old school days on your N64 while watching how he bitchslaps the games mechanics! Have a looksie!

http://www.justin.tv/cosmowright#/w/1613037280

He is doing this for fun and for donations so he can get to the SDA marathon in early 2012 (speedrunning event) ~ Plane tickets / accomadation. that stuff!

Enjoy peeps, i know i will :D - just started to attempt oot speedrunning myself today, it takes insane skill.

From start to hitting the ax.
is 6 minutes 20.5 seconds, really trying to improve and get withing the 5 minute range.

For the record, the current jp MST time to beat is 2:42:31:

If I am not mistaken, Cosmo also promised yesterday that, besides perhaps squeezing in a few no damage runs, he would unveil a whole new tongue-in-cheek category at some point inbetween attempts.

Also for those wondering, any% completion is so hideous in OOT that it is little more than a contest of who can clip through specific walls the fastest to get to the final cutscene. To my knowledge, MST and 100% are the categories of choice for the best players.

Cosmo is doing no damage runs at every $100 milestone, one coming up soon, no damage runs are good fun :-).

2nd attempt was going extremely well ~ up 1:30 on the record before he fucked up a megaflip inside the mountain on route to fire temple

My first time really watching one of these live. Thanks for posting the link, Capped. This actually way more fun and exciting than I expected it to be. It's giving me a new appreciation for speed running.

Cosmo's getting some good runs in - just getting trolled by tricks / bosses.

Latest attempt failed at fire temple - ran out of time on volvagia (boss) due to no red tunic He was ahead / about even with the WR

With donations getting the run name - the two best runs were named: Gary Oak and Lardass. <- lol ^_^

I played through this game as a teenager but can't remember it now. Can someone explain to me how the current WR is different than his run? He loses time after the Spirit Temple but then regains it before the Fire I think. He stated how it was different but I couldn't understand because it's been so long since I played.

Also, this guy is awesome. I saw a previous SDA marathon where he was explaining some of the tricks and it's just incredible both that these were discovered and that they are being executed in real-time, in sequence, where a single mistake can end a nearly 3 hour attempt.

Ahhh I've finished this game so many times it's ridiculous, and just from seeing the name of this thread I wanna play it again. Definitely gonna watch some of this :D

After shadow temple, he gets both Bolero of fire and Minuet of wood before heading to spirit temple.

WR also goes to the spirit temple as child to plant a seed and get the Requiem of spirit. The seed allows him to skip most of the dungeon by getting the mirror shield from the outside, however he still has to make the trip there as a kid.

As the attempt with the Lardass name shows, if Cosmo is 4 minute 30 seconds behind when finishing water temple, he'll enter the fire temple at thesame time as the WR run, since he can just teleport there.

Live speedruns are cool to watch although I have the least enjoyment from watching OoT speedruns. It's nothing more than Glitches of Time. Cosmo is pretty good though, but I just can't watch too much of this before tuning into other speedruns.

I've always wondered how speedrunners can just get themselves to go thru a game for hours and hours over and over again, just to beat it as fast as possible. I can barely get myself to finish a game more than once.

That being said, its very entertaining to watch.

I went to bed and woke up as he was fighting twinrova... epic play from there on, but judging from the splits, the fucked up big in well, jabu and shadow temple compared to his other runs...

Better start and he could probably shave off another 1.5 to 2 minutes!

He had a perfect Jabu and the few splits after were great that but missed the first attempt at getting into the shadow temple from the graveyard which was his biggest mess up imo. Cost him like a minute or two at least. The rest of his run was quite good overall with only minor hiccups here and there. Definitely a fun watch.

Cosmo is a beast! I watched for about 6 hours as he tirelessly tried over and over. It was amazing how willing he was to start from scratch 30 mins in because of small mistakes.

Some of the tactics (glitches) that he used seemed to make it much easier for him, I wonder if the previous record holder used all the same glitches? Otherwise I'm not sure if it's 100% legit, but regardless it was very impressive

Speedrunning allows all of the glitches he used, the guy who held the WR last would have used the majority of the glitches cosmo used along with others, because his run is different and he has a different way of doing things.

All you need to know is that it was all legit in speedrunning terms
