Best is arbitrary. GO on the otherhand is the biggest iteration of CS as of yet. So there's that.

I'm hesitating to buy cs:go. I'd like to be able to play on my account but I'd like my younger brother to be able to also play on his own, separate, account. Not necessarily at the same time, rather, I'd like to use that steam family sharing thing so that we have separate cs:go accounts. Is this possible?
If not I think I won't buy the game, I mean maybe it might be worth it either way? Or maybe I'll just let my brother play on my steam account, something I'd have rather avoided tbh.
He should be able to play on his account after requesting access (Assuming you guys are on the same computer; if you aren't you can family share it and do the same thing). The whole family sharing/multi user computer stuff is strange though.

i am not very knowledgeable on how the family sharing function works though
You can't play at all if somebody is family sharing. If you log in they'll get five minutes to buy the game or get kicked.

You can't play online for family sharing. Well, at least not competitive, not too sure about casual mode. But yeah, it gets as low as $7 for the game, as evidenced by all the god damn LEM/SMFC smurfs solo queuing. It's easily one of the cheaper big name PC games. Just buy you and your brother a copy.

Cheaper than the other big games I suppose... LoL, dota, hearthstone etc... :D

I like how it lets you search competitive, but never finds a game. Was testing it out ^_^

pre-emptive method employed by valve to catch cheaters and to stop the smurfing problem.
it's not helping

i was afraid of this
also what's this cool-down thing? you can't ladder more than a set amount of time? hmm dislike the idea a lot.
€7 isn't a lot of money that's for sure but I'm always wary of buying games these days. so much drm or weird shit here and there. micro-transactions, that sort of thing.
we bought a used copy of mirror's edge for like €1 or something and we couldn't play it because the computer we were trying to install it on wasn't linked to the internet. ridiculous, i had to go find a crack for a pirated version just to play a game we legally bought.
i'm kind of meh about buying games these days, not necessarily for the price but more about all the damn strings which are attached.

The only drm on this multiplayer game is steam. So if you have steam and internet you're good. 7 euro for this game is a bargain, it's probably the best shooter out there atm. There are voluntary microtransactions to make guns look prettier, but no pay2win. Honestly if you don't own at least one copy of this game yet you should buy it. The restriction to the amount of competitive you can play is only temporary, and unfortunately necessary to combat smurfing. If you find this restriction bothers you that probably means you're hooked, and the game was easily worth the money despite the small annoyance.

Any suggestions how to transition to this from CSS?
I bought it the other night and it feels very "floaty" and awkward (yes, I've got mouse acceleration turned off). Nothing seems to aim where I put it.
I mean I played CSS for the first time in a long time a couple of weeks ago and was getting mid-table scores; nothing amazing but I'm not usually totally incompetent is my point. With CSGO I played three full games last night and didn't get a single kill, just can't seem to HIT anything; was just nuts. Something just feels very off with the aiming setup but I can't quite work out what's wrong; I'm not sure if its just because its a fundamentally different game (so I have no idea how to play yet) or if I've missed something in the options or my approach.

I haven't really played source, but I would say it feels the opposite to me; everything seems more precise in GO. Movement is pretty different, and the spray patterns way more consistent once you get used to them. ScreaM said the same the other day on stream, he tried playing CS:S again and felt like it was shit :D I'd say just play more to get used to the different movement and patterns, and double check your settings to make sure everything's good (rates, sensitivity, mouse accel, raw input, zoom sens, resolution, but also make sure you've disabled vertical sync etc)!

Bought this a couple days ago. Played about 9 hours already so far. Very fun. Getting back up there usually 1st or 2nd on my team. Played a couple competitive matches and went 1-1. I was never really into "scrimming" back in 1.6/Source, which is what competitive is like... Maybe I should buy a microphone if I want to try that out more.
But damn I haven't played any CS in 6+ years I'd say. Feels very nostalgic to play all the old maps again. I feel old at 29 listening to all the teenagers on their mics...
Anyway. Fun shit. Totally worth the $10...
edit: well I shouldn't say top 1-2 on the team all the time. Sometimes not as good. Played on Korean servers since I live in Korea and got spanked a few times too.

Afraid? Cooldown is for when you abandon a match and screw your team over. Its there so you dont join a competitive match without playing out the entirety of the match. Its one of the better features of this game. Also, not sure what mirrors edge has to do with csgo because csgo is an online game anyways and without the internet itd be a bad game regardless. If you have issues with being connected to the internet in 2014 than I am sorry for your loss. There are no strings attached to csgo. You can buy the game for its asking price and never pay another cent in a microtransaction and still be equal with those who have spent $5000.00 extra in terms of game balance. Microtransactions are nothing more than cosmetic differences that do not affect gameplay.

No, cooldown is the limit they put on new accounts allowing them to only play 2 competitive games per day until they get their 10 wins that ranks them. Put in place to prevent smurfs and hackers. (It will be removed after you get 10 wins and are officially "ranked" to the person asking)
Well done on a long-winded asshole paragraph though.

Not sure how to transition from CSS since I never played it. Only played 1.6 like 10 years ago when I first started this. Basically, the more you play, the more you'll get used to it.

Well, CSGO doesn't really have a single player component, unless you want to play against bots, and aim training maps, which there IS an option for.

Well done on a long-winded asshole paragraph though. To be fair, it sounds the same as a "competitive cooldown" when you get banned for leaving games before they're done.

What a surprise. Something like that always only hurt those who are legit. Cheaters/Smurfs just pull out another account and continue playing after that. It's like when Anet decided to put daily caps on Hero's Ascension rewards in GW to prevent syncing. LOL

LOL Well afaik it was against boosting, because it multiplies the number of account someone needs to boost multiple clients. And since they get banned by overwatch decently quikcly (the very obvious boosting ones), it makes it not worthwhile to do it.
What I dont understand is that they already have something else against boosting (reverting ranks played with a cheater) that works well.

I *think* overwatch bans are converted into a vac ban after a while? not sure though

well even if he did only get overwatched, do note that you cannot do overwatch cases of ranks above you. So basically he got overwatched by Global Elites and they saw reasonable proof to overwatch him, then he's cheating.
