is this just something that you pick up by practice, or is there a way to learn it?

Practice. You can play with tracers on in console and try to make small balls of bullet holes and then go try on bots at various distances, or in deathmatch.

mixture of both since spraying needs to become a natural thing. So you already know the general spray pattern right? so what you can do is get in a private server and start practicing controlling that spray into a tight spread (as that is the purpose of spraying). once you do that, start spawning harmless bots and start spraying them to see how the server registers it (use consoles). Once you got the hang of it, practice it in DM and aim maps.

lol, I never used tracers since I thought they never where fully correct - oldschool 1.6 player so I never trust visual feedback *cough cough* hitboxes. I can was able to spray without really looking at the screen. So either I just sucked today, or they fucked up spraying (considering it is now server sided... yeah, the official servers are known to be perfect. tickrate, lagg, balance, everything always is perfect on them, so it definitly cant be servers )
Also, If you where spraying before and adjusting according to you tracers and got good results, it definitly wasnt wrong (even though I dont know if it was possible). If it worked and now stoped working, its now wrong, but wasnt before. But yeah, I already figured out that everyone here is an cs-expert, its just how GO is ;-).

Tracers aren't correct, as the bullet hits are instant in CS, and the tracers aren't, therefore the tracers are always lagging behind; just shoot at walls at different ranges and practice the speed at which you need to pull down your mouse, you odn't need to know how to spray after the first 10 bullets as people will have killed you by then anyway

People use tracers when spraying? What? Really? Tracers are delayed feedback. By the time the tracer gets where it's going your pattern will already have moved elsewhere.

It seems that the new viewpunch effect is caused by the lagg between the moment you shoot and the moment your client receives the server's calculations for the impact, as recoil and spread are now calculated server side. A guy on reddit posted a test in which he shows that adding artificial latency increases the viewpunch "jump" delay too.

Makes sense. So it corrects and applies another punch effect after server sends info on where your bullets actually landed?
That's actually kind of detrimental to online gameplay. Your client punches you once to where it thinks your bullet landed and what it thinks your spread was. The server then punches you again after X milliseconds delay when it tells you where your bullet actually landed and what your spread actually was.
The worse your ping/loss the more you will disagree with server and the more severe the retroactive jerk-correction. That's definitely going to mess with visual feedback.

Just got killed in the most bullshit way ever it actually pissed me off despite it being 15:4 at the time. Pushed B on mirage as T, jumped out window, rounded through bombsite and aimed at truck where someone was jumping up / scouting B halls (lol GN/AK ranges.) and sprayed him down how i normally would at ~6 meters. Only none of my shots decided to fucking register so i ended up having to spray an entire clip at the fucking idiot which resulted in me taking 3x as long and getting knifed.
PoS servers.

When people derank that much, I always wonder how it happens? Did you play with the 'wrong' people? Solo-queue too much and get unlucky with idiot teammates? Were you boosted to your peak and never deserved it in the first place (no offense, just putting down anything that could be the case, obviously I'm not suggesting that this is what it is in your case, I have never seen you play)? Hackers (unlikely at Gold Nova ranks)? Super inconsistent skill?

Aaah the long break haha. Yeah I guess that's totally normal. You'll be up there at your peak rank in no time though in my experience. My breaks have only been 1-2 months so far but it never took me long to get back into the groove.

i deranked from ak2 to nova3 by playing with silver rl friends
