You're implying valve would do a better job? They're still using valves god awful source engine to develop it, they're just outsourcing it to a different developer for some obscure reason.
Probably because they realize they've never managed to create a good counter-strike after seeing the CSS and CSCZ fiascos. Valve never seem to have understood what made the original counter strike great, and it shows in their own CS copies.
hope this thing ends up good, been looking for a good team based fps to ram my time into. Hopefully its more like 1.6, and they stay away from the Call of duty format of guns and recoil.
I have almost no interest in in playing this based on what it looks like. I love the idea of match making and I think it's an awesome idea for a team based FPS but the game itself does not look good

Looks like they took more inspiration from CSS than 1.6. Of course, we won't actually know until we play it or read in-depth preview/reviews, so it could just look like CSS and play like 1.6. I seriously doubt it though. I don't really think we'll ever see a FPS like 1.6 in the future. It's all about newbie-friendly games these days with a pretty straight-forward learning curve.

I wouldnt hold your breath on that one.
Look at the accuracy of the AK while running. In 1.6/CSS the bullets would be nowhere near that accurate even with proper spray control, which the guy isnt doing. From what ive seen so far it looks like CoD on CSS maps.

its hard to tell, hes firing at their chest so the spray could be going up. Also the video quality isn't that good so we will have to see where it goes from there.

Well honestly, I'm not too big of a fan of these kinda games, its just that they are fun at the mid to mid-high level to play competitively. The cod games are horrible though, cod1 kinda had a semblance of sanity. But then cod 2 came, with its set nades, overpowered rifles(no-scopes were pretty common) and health regen came. Then it just got worse from there.
As this game is coming out on consoles as well as PC I just have one question will they have auto aim? This game play trailer with the AK is disappointing already and if auto aim was included I wouldn't see myself wanting it, it strikes me as just catering for the cod players instead of going back to the roots of cs and understanding why 1.6 is so great. Maybe that makes great business sense but I don't think the fan base can really stand up for another disappointment after cz and css. (I also found it quite amusing in the trailer that CZ was never talked about when they spoke of both 1.6 and source.) Maybe I should wait and see for more instead of being so judgemental, but I don't have high hopes for now.
Interesting stuff in this article. Seems cross platform play will exclude 360s as expected by people that have been following the dispute between valve and Msoft. But i think its very nice that there wil be a possibility for ps3 users to use a mouse/keyboard to play. Im starting to like this colaboration between sony and valve. They start to implement things i was waiting and hoping for a long time now. Personally i dont rally care if the game will be like 1.6 or css, if there will be a new engine or not... but i really hope this crossplatform play and mouse/keyboard on consoles will be made well. I think PC and console gaming would benefit so much from it being successfull.

auto-aim was also available in cs 1.6, you just have to disable it.
I think it looks good, the aim is not static like CoD, in here you really require skill to control the recoil and etc, like in 1.6. who imo remains as the best first-shooter of all time.
I guess i'll wait to play it myself before judging how the guns feel and whatnot. I mean I am pretty dissatisfied with most shooters that have come out since like TF2 basically. I probably don't share the same desires in a competitive FPS as most 1.6 fans that are bashing teh game, but I also think that 1.6 is the best competitive FPS ever made. It'd be great if the ballistics model was as fun as in 1.6, and I guess we'll have to wait and see if Valve decides to go that route or not (or even if they can on the source engine).
I moved to CSS when it came out because I never really cared or noticed the difference lol. I was only a kid and still really liked it (and you must admit it's still has a much better feeling that almost all other FPSs).
I think the main reason I stopped playing CSS was that i eventually got bored because it became too monotonous, mostly because of how shitty the community was. I dont have any interest in joining a team and playing competitively, I just want to join a good server and play. I hated having to download dozens of unused sound clips for every server lol. I hated how hard it was to find servers that played maps outside of office and dust2. I hated how it became impossible to find a server that didnt have infinite money. I also actually really hate the AWP. maybe im just not playing the game right but I hate when i join a server with infinite money (every server) and then 3/4 of the palyers all had AWPs. Sometimes it's fun to have to deal with snipers, but it got pretty boring to me when the whole game was about playing vs nearly and entire team of people with AWPs lol.
If CSGO offers me a good pub experience (addressing my complaints of CSS) and still has a really fun ballistics model, AND spices up the variety (making the sorta useless guns better and adding in more fun guns), I will probably be happy with it.
now whats funny to me is how much this reminds me of BW players complaining about SC2 (which was/still totally is me). I remember being so mad when people would say BW sucks because it doesn't have automine or only 12-unit control groups. do I just totally sound like one of those people in my post? lol
also this has made me want to start playing CS again. does 1.6 have the same sort of server problems as in CSS (horrible map rotation (IE none), infinite money, etc)?

No.
No way he should have hit. There goes my hopes of seeing CS coming back into the big picture. I can't wait to see what my Competitive CS friends think.
Wow, that video is disappointing. Like I said, I won't judge recoil/aim mechanics/netcode until I actually get to play it, but the visual style is definitely closer to a modern tactical shooter rather than a deathmatch game.
I wonder if Valve realizes that competitive gamers want things to look as simple and easy to spot as possible. Hopefully in the settings, we can turn a lot of that crap down but even on the maps themselves, there's a lot of clutter.
The sounds and models are also terrible. I realize I'm biased on it, but I honestly believe regular CS AWP and AK are two of the best and most recognizable sounds in video game history. The AWP boom is just something else...

Obviously its made on the same engine, but the effort to differentiate itself from css is pathetic to say the least.
Yeah, the buy menus made me throw up in my mouth. The rest of the gameplay problems such as movement and aiming are things which developers often don't get right early on, but the buy menu design just shows they are making a console port out of this. I really hope the sounds are just place holders. The awp and deagle sound really gimped.

I'm pretty sure they're not placeholder, alot of those sounds are existing source sounds, nothing has changed. Which brings me back to my original point.

Just curious, why is the Source engine awful?
Its inability to create good games? css and now csgo seems to be enough evidance that no matter how hard valve tries this engine doesn't allow them to create a game that looks, feels and plays right.
Or maybe its just valves incompetent developers, who knows, maybe there is something they've missed. Kind of weird though, considering its THEIR engine.
