My k/d is terrible (obviously not every game, but overall), but as long as my team is winning and I'm protecting bomb/disarming/throwing proper nades/smokes/fashes/moving with team/not rushing in to die right away/whatever else the team requires I feel im doing alright. I jsut avoid putting myself into a postion of being like team awper or something when I know there are people who will do it much better than I. edit:

Having fun regardless of score --> you play more --> you get better faster Also, use whatever gun you want. But play to its strengths. For instance, if you just want to use the Deagle + grenades for a few days, learn how to force CQB fights. Learn how the physics of the grenades work. Yes, even the decoy grenade. It has its uses. Just experiment. Have fun. You'll get better without even noticing the time go by. At least that's what works for me.

I'm not too bad, so I usually kill 1 or 2 people first.

Start with the AK or M4. Learn 3 shot bursts for long and medium distances, and spray when close. If you feel you simply just don't understand how to spray in this game, well you aren't alone on that. Many people are having trouble learning how to spray effectively including seasoned professionals. Also, this may sound obvious but always go for the headshot. Oh yes, you want to stand still when bursting from a distance. It's common to stop, fire off a burst, then move a bit to dodge, then fire another burst. It's situational of course, but in general it's usually a good idea to stand still when fire. That part about always going for the headshot was actually not obvious at all. Many weapons have crazy spread or high enough single-shot damage to where the accuracy and speed of going for body shots seems superior to headshots. That said, most of the weapons with those traits I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole in any match that isn't arms race. Not all, though. Sawed off shotgun would be a good example of a weapon that I usually go for body shots with and would use in a real match.

I'd love to do scrims and stuff, but I'm not sure how good the "competitive" mode is going to be as they work on it. Unless you are already playing at a high level I don't see the reason to. If you don't have a team and aren't completely dominating the pubs in classic competitive, seems kinda pointless to pay for something you can get for free built into the game. Plus let's not forget since it's launch day officially, a lot of people will be playing just to try the mode out, I think you'll see the quick find competitive games get much better once the initial rush of playing and trying everything out settles down. Alternatively, I'm sure you can find a community pub that plays competitive mode in the server list that has some good competition.

Join randomly in the middle (score like 6 to 6 or some shit) and have to buy a deagle since you get no money on first spawn even midway through the game. Own them and then your team kicks you and won't say why. Pretty fucking retarded.

A word of advice: Try the game out, really. Stop comparing it directly with CSS or 1.6. Stop making nostalgic blanket comments about balance and what you think the game should be. Pretty much anyone that's actually played the full duration of the beta, like myself, has seen how terrible the game really was, and how much its obviously improved. I play competitively, there's SOME bullshit things about the game I'm not going to in depth with, but considering that the game is in an infantile state and it's competitively viable, it's strong. Obviously it's not a finished product. Obviously there will be more positive changes. EVERY PATCH SO FAR HAS BEEN GREAT. And that was just the beta.

It's more or less about idiotic people playing the game and kicking for whatever reason. I had another team kick me because they wanted a bot so they could take control after they died and still play.
