Dunno how, dunno why, but I suck balls despite my positive K/D and whenever I ask why I suck balls, they don't answer. And no, this is not me misinterpreting some douchebag's taunt as an actual opinion on my level of play. So what am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to move while shooting? Am I supposed to crouch? How often should I crouch move? Are there weapons that you go for body shots with at certain ranges? Am I supposed to play defensively, or aggressively? When do I go full-auto? How much shots should I fire when I'm bursting in order to maintain accuracy? What separates this game from SC2 in terms of learning is that I have no fucking idea what I'm doing wrong, and have no way to tell unless someone who knows tells me.
You don't want to move while shooting, it will ALWAYS decrease your accuracy. Something to practice is hitting the opposite direction your moving just before you shoot, it will cause you stop for a split second, giving you 100% accuracy as if you're standing still. You also want to shoot-move-shoot-move-shoot-move. Bursting the whole time. As stated, distance determines your strategy when you're shooting. It's almost always better to spray close range and when you're spraying, you SHOULD ALWAYS crouch unless you're comfortable with spraying from the hip. But for the mid to far ranges, you're much better off bursting for 2 or 3 shots at a time. There is also an advantage to a 5 or 6 shot burst if you aim at the chest, as the recoil will pull the weapon upward toward the head. However, this requires a little more control.
Your game sense will develop very quickly. Don't always rush forward, take your time and carefully move about the map while listening for footsteps and watching for CT's/T's killing your teammates. As a CT, you're at an advantage because the Terrorists have to come to you. As a T, you should move forward keeping in mind planting the bomb is your objective. But, don't just all out bum rush unless you're collaborating with a team of players, and it's your tactic to bum-rush the bomb site.
Personally, I like to go the opposite direction that everyone else seems to be going. It helps me avoid the crowded areas and getting gayed by some randy that was shooting at my teammate. It always increases my chances that I'm going to catch someone rotating to the other bombsite because that's where all the action is going down. This is called Flanking.
Work on your shooting before you worry about movement and general tacticianry, as these things take much longer to develop than your shot, and it's also one of the core proponents of Counter-Strike. Having a decent shot will take you much further than having a shitty shot, and great movement.

Planning on purchasing the game and trying out... but curious as to how populated is the server? Is there a pretty big selection of servers to join and pub? Or is CS still dead in general?

Quite the opposite of dead.

CSGO will be quite populated, especially competitively - because of the better incentives to play competitively. I can't say it's a better game competitively, with the screwed economy and whatnot ><

So, how do I play PUG scrims? Quite confused as to how the new match making system works.

You simply click "find a game", and select classic competitive. If you want to play with a friend, you goto play with friends, invite them, and select the game type you wish to play (classic competitive for scrims) then hit go.

Can anyone share some useful config commands ?

For anybody who played 1.6 competitively, save yourselves $14.99USD because the game is actually worse than source.
If you want to argue the game is a fun shooter to sneak in a quick match to get your fps fix, TF2 is far superior in every aspect. I for one hope for an amazing 1.09 patch from the CS ProMod Dev team, if they do indeed implement the things they've been talking about ie. goldsrc sound engine & the 1.6 model size + movement it should be quite close to 1.6. But with much better admin, spec/hltv, gui & hud interfaces. If all the big 1.6 teams and organisations would so eagerly embrace the trainwreck go is, i imagine csp will definitely take off and become the new global team fps esports so desperately needs.

I find CS:GO to be quite good. Everyone that believes it should be like 1.6 is delusional imo. 1.6 was a nice game but the downside of it is, it was buggy and there were so many ways to hack so you wouldn't even know. Lots of teams are switching to CS:GO already so it's sure it won't die out anytime in the near future. And you can't compare TF2 to any CS game at all.

Yes, but its more about filling a role, watching a spot, or being a spotter/delayer, cause you dont wanna play public forever right? Public games (for me atleast) are more about individual skill instead of winning as a team, depending if you wanna find a team and play 5v5 or not.
I played a lot from CS beta too 1.6 (not much source), and all we did was 5v5. My advice is to practise keeping your crosshair where it should be, so that most of the time, all you need is to shoot. Knowing the maps inside out is very important cause of this.
Public games can teach a lot of bad habits, keep this in mind. When I play public, you can feel like its opponents everywhere, while in a real game, you have teammates covering your back. I think its better to assume although it can get you killed in pubs. Yeh someone shot you in the back, not something big to cry about on publics. If you lose a fight head on, its okey to hammer your balls in disappointment. Also find your strength weakness so you dont pick a slot in premade teams that you suck. You say you suck at AWP is an example (but you may rule just so you know).
Learning will never stop, I find this to be of more depth then SC2, but then again I was only diamond at best, but pretty decent and active in CS up till 1.6 where I went over to wow 6 months after its release

It's funny how similar the 1.6 vs GO discussion is to the BW vs SC2 one. On the one hand you have a bunch of conservatives who won't play anything different unless it's a carbon copy of their beloved game, on the other hand you've got people who used to play 1.6 (or CS:S) and are now rediscovering counter-strike through GO.

bah darn internet capped for the next week, what the hell do I play D:<

Tuning their skills year after year, and a sequel comes up forcing them to retune their play is frustrating for some. Maybe the hitboxes are too big, who knows, early to tell, but the game is much much more then aim, like starcraft is much much more then just mechanics.
I do have higher hope for GO then SC2 though. Love that we are given much more freedom then what blizzard gave us.

That's right, there are similarities: I enjoy both BW and SC2. Same as CS 1.6 and CS:GO.
Of course it is different but that doesn't mean it is worse. Besides, GO delivers a feeling I think I lost when I stopped playing 1.6. ^^

I think the servers in my region are shit. All 66tick but they arent holding it and it makes the game even more inconsistent when spraying.
Other than that its been pretty good. I havent scrimmed it yet but the game feels alright.
