After skimming through the manifesto I think I will settle for Fire DoT as my starter. Not that I think Toxic Rain or Blade Blast will be dead but it's a nice excuse? Starting with Arma Brand Ignite and later add Fire Wall, Fire Trap, Righteous Fire and maybe Searing Bond if I can manage? Again more of a meme but w/e...
I also used the last few hours of the league to see how far my builds can go. Turns out I would have been able to do the Feared, Maven, Uber Elder and I even almost cleared a fully juiced 100% Delirium Map - even though that one was definitely borderline. Maybe I should be less scared next time... It's SC afterall.

A good racer pace is about 12-13 mins for act 1 so its always relative :x Is A1 that much shorter now compared to back in the day with the race seasons or have racers become that much quicker? I don't remember 12-13 minutes being the mark for A1. Maybe my memory is wrong but I think only the top racers were able to hit sub 20 minutes and not even consistently. I would assume most of the time saving comes from just plain power creep, better more powerful skills that are accessible early.
Yeah makes sense. When I raced I still leap slammed all the way to A3...

Back in the race season days, the fast way was duelist with leap slam instead of walking. Now we have 3 charges smoke mine / flame dash, with the combo being able to insta jump across a whole screen more or less. I`m also pretty sure near perma onslaught uptime is another thing that speeds everything up quite considerately. And then theres all these small things, like walking away from the vendor while keeping the shop screen open and stuff.
Yeah, better movement skills for everyone sure makes a difference. Perma onslaught is possible in A1? Didn't even know that, that changes a lot for sure as well. Also iirc back when they added flameblast and especially storm call, leap slam was usually quite a bit slower than caster classes unless the rng gods gave you a massive weapon.

Casters were overpowered because of +1 gem levels more than anything I would think. You get a 3L and recipe it saves so much time than constantly upgrading.

Nobody I gonna try a vaal skill build. Besides the new skills. Seems like the active vaal skills is getting the only buff this league. Will probably do a build with my second char and start with a skellemancer or miner.

8 seconds trigger fucking sucks. I really don't mind the nerfs that were announced in the manifesto, but no buffs makes for a stale meta as well. Maybe there'll be some Vaal Skill speed clear builds again, but I really prefer playing solid builds that are more like those at SSFHC.
Seems like we're now moving towards a game where in additon to the 4-5 flasks you are needing to press 5+ skills as well, as it seems to be the case in PoE 2. To be honest, in a game like PoE, I really hate to play such builds. For now it won't be necessary I guess and the trigger nerf just makes people that used it weaker, but I'm afraid more such patches will happen.
Would I be less against using 5+ skills without flasks or with just 1-2 flasks? Probably, but that doesn't seem too be the case in PoE 2 either.

Slam skills with call of steel are relatively unchanged still, right? I'm considering a ground slam champion with the buff to vaal ground slam.
|
Map Tiers Note that there has not been a shuffle of the Atlas for Ultimatum. Map tiers are unchanged from Ritual.
Little bit sad at this, ah well.
Hoping we get some of the new Divination cards teased in case there's something build-enabling.
|
Indeed, except if you are super Endgame and were using Chainbreaker. Flesh and Stone at 35% is also not so cool, and the 33% nerf to Seismic Cry.
But Vaal Ground Slam is absolutely nuts now... it being able to get exerted AND being stronger and more readily usable... Holy shit. I won't be surprised if it'll be the new meta soon (in SSFHC), the single target with it should be amazing. It's not like Ground Slam is bad on its own either.
Vaal Ice Nova and Vaal Burning Arrow will definitely see some use as well. Both seem extremely strong.

That being said, phys slam/bleed builds are still going to be solid or better with some of the new gems and passives probably, and the Vaal G.Slam buff looks REALLY fun

"The Impaler Keystone now prevents Call of Steel removing any Impales inflicted within the last 4 seconds."
+ a slight nerf to the lord of steel unique jewel.

Yeah I think best bet is probably just take whatever people were doing with good EQ builds and use Ground Slam instead. It's on my mind as well, the buffs to the vaal version look fun as hell.

With changes to low life this essence look awesome
[i]Essence of Hysteria No longer grants Socketed Gems have +50% chance to Ignite to Helmets. Now grants Socketed Gems deal 30% more Damage while on Low Life to Helmets./[i]

Groundslam seems actually legit now but Cold Vortex is calling me, too... Vaal Ice Nova is laggy as hell isn't it?
Not sure, traps/mines are also cool but not sure if fast enough for the SC dash.

Groundslam champion with Impaler keystone and warcries should still be great and shouldn't be that different without call of steel, right? The core mechanics of impales and exerts still works fine? I've never played slams before haha

This is proberly a stupid question, but how do you make sure the impale is with the vaal groundslam and not normal. Would feel bad to have it prevented by Impaler.

Has anyone had any experience with using Arcanist Brand as an equivalent (e.g. linking it to a mark/curse, Wave of Conviction, and Blade Blast for Unnerve)?

Uhm, that should only matter vs bosses and there you can time it, no?
Honestly, this whole discussion makes me want to reevaluate my league start. Ground Slam was one of my favourite skills back in the day. I also kind of want to play Ice Trap (unrelated). I feel like I'm going to make a last minute call again and hate myself for it...again.

Not exactly, but I have used self-cast brands to trigger EE, curses etc. before and found it was good vs bosses and bad during mapping (to the point I just stopped using it). Not the same but maybe comparable. In the end, you would probably only want to use it on bosses anyways, so it should be a good alternative to trigger for this particular use.

I used Arcanist Brand with wave of conviction and conductivity curse on my ball lightning archmage character this league, and it worked well.

ED/Contagion or Mines for me I think.
If someone has a cool caster league start suggestion I'd be all ears though. I do feel like this league has pretty harsh requirements on decent builds though. Some things like BV felt like they got carried hard by explody chests.
Farming stuff like A9 on ED would be miserable still I presume? What kinda mines are hot these days?
|
Well, Arcanist Brand + WoC + Blade Blast or curse works well indeed, I have done that before.
Trigger at 8 sec also isn't THAT bad I guess, can still use it for Offerings and Tempest Shield at the very least.
I think I'll be crazy this league and start with Ascendant Exsanguinate. Gem looks okay from the dps, but I'm not very sure it will be solid since 1 sec dot is pretty bad duration and you have to pay Life as well. Gonna go full retard and try Petrified Blood and Low Life as well, probably going 78/75 block (requires 1 spell dmg large cluster and 2 small ones) using Gladiator + Necromancer.
