Its best to keep in mind that its a car game more than anything. You start out puttering along in a bearly moving car that you're trying to get over the "don't crashdie" part of the experience. At the end you're in a formula one team in space.

I shall play Vortex Occultist, the SUV of PoE in that case.
Kinda debated Caustic Arrow again but the damage feels... still underwhelming sadly. Seems hard to push past 700k even with proper gear.
What is witch levelling like atm? Still someting like oos/storm brand?
Gunde, lag, echelon etc, you guys around or anyone getting sucked into SSF for bragging rights? :o
|
What does Vortex Cold Snap Occultist mapping look like anyway? That was the one alternative to ED Trickster I was thinking of at the moment but I need to go find some good gameplay videos, it sounds weird lol
|
Waggles old video is still pretty accurate. Gear and/or gems are obviously a bit outdated iirc but the general idea is still the same.
Most of it is run into middle of pack, drop vortex, move on until vaal coldsnap is up, then just run and let it do the work, repeat. In sketchy spots you can use cold snap as your ranged skill.
ED Trickster is 100% a faster mapper, Vortex Occultist is safer and a much cleaner bosskiller. Was my choice of build back in Betrayal and felt like a very smooth build for potentially overtuned bosses.
e: Not sure if I'll be able to play at this rate, my game looks like this as of now. Hmmmmm.....
e2: Fastest fix ever, having the game set at a wrong (lower) resolution did that. o_O

All the meta lightning leveling skills got trashed in this patch Evo. Bossing will probably not be fun.
Trade league is just............. sigh, I am not a huge fan. I will be there for league start and probably playing SSF because I hate trading more than anything - until i blow 2000 fuse on a chest in SSF anyway, that sucks more.

Oh yikes, I didn't see the mine got nerfed too, by like 20% at lvl1 as well.
Storm brand might be okay-ish? Someone teach me how this works now please, I'm flexible on levelling skills until I swap to CI anyway. Anything elemental would work just fine.
See, you can just play trade without trading - same drawbacks and we can all share the pain of fusing and unlocking maps. :>

But then you miss the excitement of watching all of the rips in global chat!
I actually think HC trade league will be stupid dead this time around anyways, this event is going to pull a huge portion of that player-base over. Curious to see what it will do the viability of the league.

...I might just do a Summoner Guardian again, just with skellies to change it up if I can't figure out levelling witch until launch, that build was so nice and effortless at league start.

Only lightning spire got "trashed", the rest are still competitive
|
Yeah the changes to Orb of Storms looked smaller than people expected I think? I'm not even up to date on what makes that so OP for leveling/racing in the first place.
Lightning Spire looks a bit more dramatic.

Another leaguestart, another ihavenocluewhatimgoingtoplaythisevening.
I'd love to play some lightning-skill just because I like the visuals but my static strike character last season... that will feel slow and there is no worse feeling at leaguestart.
so probably cold snap/vortex or chieftain-ballistas and then swap when i get 1-2 build defining uniques (ssf) and might be able to go for something else.

Just from a quick run to get some rust off: Feels like stormblast mine carries singletarget really, really hard. Bit less damage shouldn't matter. Not sure on packs, oos felt a bit meh, stormblast felt a bit meh, combined was okay but not great.
There's gotta be something with lighting that instakills packs besides arc trap.
Is leveling with cold skills a thing? Something something frost bolt maybe? Not sure on bosses in that case though.
|
Shocknova-Trap could be fun?
|
Storm Brand should still be a good fire-and-forget skill for leveling
|
Selfcast-Arc would be cool. Haven't played that in a while but looking at league mechanics I would expect that to be at best mediocre for bosses, right?
Saw a video-guide for Storm Burst. That'll probably be my first try at the league. Until one day I'm able to make a potent shocknova build that I do not suck at playing. Probably my favourite skill but each league I'm getting to ~80 and finding that I have no idea how to go beyond yellow maps with that.

arc is really weak singletarget and usually supplemented by something like lightning spire trap or similar. lightning spire trap got nerfed quite heavily now though. I dunno if selfcast arc will be decent, it all depends how much impact the new bosses will have on gameplay. Think betrayal, crazy new content but in the end everyone end up disabling them and only do them on story mode to farm low level hideouts. The actual fights had no reward so people didnt do them. If the new bosses end up dropping shit loot for the effort then you wont need a build that is good for them. So in summary, hard to tell what will be good

Fair, you can kill packs fine but spire trap is the skill that made bossing feel good. With a boss HP buff across the board i dont know if I would want to run around in circles waiting for storm brand to kill them right now.
I leave work 30 min before league start anyways so ... between patching and Queue ill be way behind likely.

So in summary, hard to tell what will be good Crit Arc Inquisitor with MoM should be pretty good with Mind of the Council and Beret's Grip and possibly Inpulsa (since it buffs shock) since shocking will be way easier this patch. For single target worries you can always do what Foxtactics did in the past and use Flame Surge for it (Arc or Storm Brand curse on hit do the ignite part). Iirc Fox used the Arc gem in Essence crafted gloves and 6L Flame Surge in Body Armour (Loreweave I think) back then.

There was another clip with a player fighting one of the bigger Metamorphs and also showed the drops, can anyone link that? Can't seem to find it now.
Everything.
