If you're anything like me, you are a regular GSL viewer (pretty much on a daily basis). However, it cannot be denied that the GSL broadcasts have certain periods of downtime (ad-breaks, interviews that are quite often uninteresting and last but by no means least: gutwrenchingly cruel K-POP) as well as some games and/or matchups that just aren't all that exciting (for example when there are only Terrans left in the Ro4 -.-).
Recently, a friend got me to play Canaan, a browser-based free-to-play MMORPG that has ever since been filling in pretty much all my downtime (at work and at home ^.^). Unlike other MMORPGs, Canaan doesn't necessarily require huge amounts of time investment and can reasonably be played for minutes at a time (of course, as with any MMO, the more time and effort you invest, the more results you will get). Since the game is browser-based and no download is required, you can pretty much just keep it open in a tab and play for a few minutes or more whenever you feel like it.
As for the gameplay, it resembles many other MMORPGs, i.e. you level up your character and hunt for better gear, all the while playing with or against other players if you so choose (questing, partying, joining a guid, instances, PvP, the whole shebang). Apart from that, Canaan offers the typical late-game gameplay: Hunting for better gear, crafting, (guild) events etc. as well as a Pokémon-style pet/companion system that adds another dimension to the late-game (breeding/trading/colleting pets). The graphics and combat system are modeled after the old school JRPGs on the SNES within a flash framework.
About Canaan:
- free-to-play (with optional micro-transaction payment)
- browser/flash-based, no download required
- 4 classes (warrior, ranger, mage, priest)
- offers PvE as well as PvP content (instances, questing, crafting, pet system etc.)
- has frequent in-game events
It's for you if you:
- enjoy MMORPG gameplay and mechanics (i.e. pimping your character)
- like anime-style graphics
- like JRPGs
- like Pokémon
- are looking for a more casual, laid-back MMORPG experience
It's not for you if:
- the items on the list above do not apply to you, obviously ^.^

If this sounds like something you would like to try, you can find the game at
http://canaan.gpotato.eu/
It's one of several games offered on the gpotato-portal and you will need a gpotato-account (which is free). It isn't offered on the American portal and there are seperate English, German adn French servers.
Let's see if we can get a TL-guild going!
Cheers
