Vassalisation is 4 inf/country, so you can easily take 3 of them as vassals. Don't attack them for that reason unless austria is the HRE and has no way of reaching you. Also, in my opinion the most important thing: Get some SoI early on. In my game as TO to form germany (Low aggression, VH difficulty) i think i lost the first 3-4 wars i got in against the Emperor, but i always managed to gain what i wanted from the war beforehand(vassals, land). Then you can just reduce you SoI as soon as they are ready to negotiate at all. So you have gotten what you wanted from the war, and not really lost anything to the emperor. My usual combination of Advisors is MoM/Diplomat/Philosopher. Also, i didn't find scandinavia really dangerous. Sure, you usually can't reach them, but they also just besiege Gotland and then drop small stacks of guys onto you. . I always, when I"m doing a conquering strategy, get a high level diplomat ASAP. You can literally lose 1.2 infamy per year, which is just fucking amazing in the long run and can let you get away with some wacky shit. By the way, I don't think people realize how useful expanding your influence is. Just 3 or 4 countries in your Influence raises your diplomatic skill by a metric fuck ton. Inspired by this I started a game as emperor. After a while it started bugging me that I couldn't use any diplomatic options when I wanted to start expanding. I then realised this is the most boring nation of all to play since you can do nothing but join allies in war. Is there any guide on what to change in order to enable diplomacy so one can use the one province country Japan to conquer the world?

Stay on that island for as long as it takes to get enough Slider moves into free Trade and at least one of the 2 trade NIs, start trading like a crazy person, be filthy rich and either colonize or conquer something. Since you start at -4 mercantilism, that probably means around a century of doing nothing, but it should still be doable.

Then some other country landed on his single province with 2 armies. GG

However, you notice interesting things this way. For example, did you know that you can pay for one 6-star advisor solely by selling advisors to other countries, and for another one even with the most useless province in the world? Sure, i did not have an army, but having 1000 troops does not really make a difference in any situation. One could probably also try to go for QftNW and expand into america, but sadly you cannot get a Naval Tech advisor only for cultural tradition, so that would be hard. Edit: Ok, that seemed to be a pretty random thing. I reloaded an autosave, and now i am in 1460 and making shitloads of money. And i don't even know the rich CoTs like Nanjing yet. I could try saving up for some years, then recruit a mercenary army and attack Ceylon, or something of the likes. The safest bet for a long-term game would probably be to get QftNW now, and maybe use those mercs to beat up some native americans. But since the goal is only to conquer something, i am to lazy for that. Does Land Research help improve your mercenaries? Edit2: On VH obviously. ![]() I demand that you are highly impressed by me now.

So this is me with Austria and I managed to get all of the reforms, so now I'm the HRE (Holy Roman Empire). My money/manpower is pretty ridiculous, and I can rape whomever I want Castille still hasn't formed Spain, and they took the region under Russia, see the yellow section above the Ottomans. Russia, the green shape to the right, is motherfucking huge, about 5 times the size of me. I killed France in the mid 1400's so now she's only one or two provinces. Orleans/Aragon kind of took over. I have 0 navy, but my army buttfucks everyone. This game is the fucking best, played it on airplane rides and during a power outage in NE US. +50 hours and not a single one wasted. ![]()

Civ 5 was a joke. graphics where pretty but its so full casual its a fucking disgrace. I'll go back to my teutonic empire (I beat the polish hammer :D) after I try out a good austrian run that looks sexy.

The problem arises when you have about 40 rebel stacks and you only have around 5-6 stacks of 10-15k hunting rebels AND you are fighting a (previously) multi-front war. War Exhaustion increased national revolt risk by mofo 19%, which creates a shit ton of neverending rebels. The rebels eventually take some provinces, as 5-6 stacks can't kill fast enough for all of them. Then, when they siege a rebel province, that is where I have to swoop in and make them assault the province instead of wasting a whole year sitting there. The exact thing is happening to me right now as I'm fighting a Castille-Russia-Portugal alliance, about 180k HRE vs 300k C-R-P. Fuckin rebels and castillians and russians and portugese
