I don't know, I seriously think Yun/Yang/Fei are just as bad as vanilla Sagat. The only difference being there's 3 characters that bad and they are way more popular than Sagat. They're also significantly easier to play as than Sagat too. Bitching about balance is the cool thing to do when you're at a low skill level so the character actually makes a difference.

Goes to show if you played AE in arcades for the past 7 months, you're ahead of the curve. Hsien Chang has played more AE than anyone in america so far.

lol. He's from Korea, but he's attending college in Alaska.

Also, the way Hsien plays isn't really extensive AE knowledge. It's more just a LOT of experience from old fighters paying off. He won most his matches by blocking extremely well.

Edit: I fully agree with FS, below.

no, akuma didn't pass sagat on the tier list. sagat was a legit S tier character, something I don't know if Yun can be classified as. Sagat had one single bad matchup, and about half his advantaged matchups were horrible 7-3 in his favor. Yun doesn't have that big an advantage over the rest of the cast. The problem with Sagat wasn't the design of the character itself; while he had a godly zoning game, it was the fact that kara uppercut FADC f+rh ultra did like 650+ damage, and naked uppercut by itself was almost always worth the risk. it put a retarded skew on the damage relationship between characters in that Sagat outdamaged everyone else to the point where he was basically untouchable as soon as he got two meters, which he could get obscenely fast because of the type of fireball zoning character he's supposed to be. this also lead to Sagat players leaning on his brainless skillset, which meant that no Sagat players really developed to the point where they could win in every situation. You can always get dominated by a better player, Sagat was just strong to the point where you really had to be a SHITLOAD better, not a little better, to beat him. Yun has the tools to dominate a good portion of the cast, but the damage output off each hit confirm isn't as retarded, which means he still has to work to get damage. Playing against Yun with my character, for example, is pretty close to balanced simply because Sakura does a shitload more damage than Yun - so while he'll get more opportunities to deal damage, mine count more, and i have mixups on knockdown that are much scarier than Yun's and again, lead to more damage. Hell, tons of characters in AE have mixups on knockdown that are as scary as Yun's, but without such a robust defensive kit.

i know where you're getting the idea that akuma surpassed him on the tier list though. The top 3 in vanilla were unquestionably Sagat, Akuma, and Ryu, in that order, but they had a circular relationship like Ryu > Akuma > Sagat > Ryu

all that said, Yun/Yang/Fei simply don't have the get-out-of-jail-free megadamage combo that made Sagat so overpowered. Pretty much every character in AE is tournament viable, and has their own game they can run. If you don't know the matchup, you're gonna get bodied regardless of what character you pick. the top 3 in AE are definitely deserving of their place, but choosing them is by no means a free win.

Towards the end of SF4 vanilla in japan 34 of the 66 people above 90k bp played Sagat, Akuma, or Ryu.

24 of those played Sagat
6 Akuma
4 Ryu

These being the top 3 represented characters in the 90k+ range goes to show how dominant Sagat truly was.

Isesuto number 1 Yang player at the moment, what the hell? I just hope he didn't switch mains, his C.Viper was the best. And with Yang he has sooo many options now, considering that he has a pretty good Gouki, Fei Long, Makoto, Sagat and M.Bison as well.

/edit: Just saw the number 2 Seth player(who was 1/1 two days ago) and he had over 11k BP. And uh, that's a lot...but how much has the n°1 then? Don't own a 360, so I can't check.

/edit2: Looks like he has a 5000+ BP Yun as well, so I guess(or rather hope) he is justing testing the new characters.

Rofl my bad. I remember one time where Marn went to Arcade UFO and he ran like a 34 game win streak while on the other cabs Hsien ran like 45. Marn eventually lost, and Hsien got up to 60 something win streak. GDLK.

But seriously, very well put. Yun Yang and Fei are all top tier yes but they aren't as far ahead of the curve as everyone wants to believe. The problem is people see this character with ac ompletely unique move list and pressure system that is thrown into the game (unlike oni and e ryu) and they do well, but that doesn't put them on the Ryu Akuma Sagat Vanilla level so easily.

I do believe the twins are the two best characters in the game, what I do NOT think is that they're broken in any way or should be banned in tournaments. The reason I think a character like Phoenix should be banned in Marvel is because you get rewarded for losing two high hp characters just to build the meter, then get thrown into 3 50/50's that are 50% kill, 50% safe chip/pushblock situations where you can rinse and repeat that until you OCV the other team. Yun and Yang and Fei, believe it or not, have to work for their pressure situations and pull of combos that 99% of players can't pull off, and sustain that throughout since they have heavy recovery frame data and pretty high execution shit within their super combos (the twins, that is, Fei long has it even worse in that his ultra can't be juggled).

I'm starting to switch over to the line of thought that Yun/Yang/Fei are only as broken as the player playing them seeing how not a lot of players are doing well with them despite their amazing tool set. The only thing I disagree with is the gif and the idea you have that Yun and Yang takes execution.

Why would you say Phoenix should be banned and then not mention Wolverine?

Any ways, AE is still very young so no real tier list can be established just yet. I am pretty sad however that it is a common thought that Ryu is considered to be very bad and most comp. Ryu players have switched.

I also want to mention that Yun and Yang are fairly easy to play, but you actually need to know what you're doing with Fei Long.
