End game since you don't believe it is worth the bandwidth cost (even though it is like a dollar).
Honestly, after all the time I have played I do not have a skill higher than my 93 attack.

No matter how much Jagex postures with their anti-botting policies, they are quite ineffective and useless. With a bot running for 16 hours a day, it took me generally max 3 weeks, excluding mining, to reach the 90s. Mining took the longest, around 5 weeks.

Hiicant you should get on vent more often... and I have been sucked into this abyss myself o_O

Lol, I either run a few of any other program on my computer, or I run only vent and hope my computer doesn't overheat.
Yeah, I edited in to the OP a warning that this game is very addicting.

Like many MMO games, Runescape can be quite the grind when leveling skills. Thing is, it's pretty honest about it being a grind whereas many games try hide it or cover it up (rather poorly, usually).
I actually enjoyed the quests (probably over 200 of them by now), as Jagex has a nice flavor they usually throw in, but I suppose most people aren't really the questing type.
Biggest issue is that a lot of the game is pretty much solo play (outside pvp, but leveling up your combat stats to pvp is often solo). There's stuff you can do together here and there (I hear dungeoneering was designed from the ground up to allow multiple people to do it together), but much of the time playing with someone else is just the two of you solo training next to each other.
Enjoyable game that doesn't really deserve as much flak as it gets.

Actually started playing again over spring break for 4-5 days when I heard wildy and free trade were back. It's still fun and REALLY nostalgic. Bunny ears ftw! ^^
|
It really is the poor man's WOW if you think about it. Its got a wide range of things to do, places to see, and challenges to face, which is why I've been playing it again lol. People that bot confuse the hell out of me, but botters gonna bot I guess >.>.
I started it for the quests and now I'm enjoying just the general training aspect of it.

Actually I had the quest cape when the max points were around 308. After a few more quests that need higher requirements (74 Smithing ugh) were released, and I lost it.
If anyone wants to add me ingame, my rsn is "Chrono Boost"

I played this game for some time. The only real pleasure in it was pking - everything else I did was just to level up / get gear to pk and I quit not long before they removed pking from the game (which is apparently back now) I had quite a few stats in the 90's. Quit with like 50m and a ton of gear left in my bank, lent the account to a friend and now it's banned But oh well, I hope I'd never play it again anyway lolol
|
i botted my pker pretty well 100% (99 range,99magic, 87 str). im not really ashamed i just didnt really have the time to grind it out.
my main is from 2005 and is 100% legit however.
also i own a santa hat

Stopped playing this in about 2005, Main was lvl 111, 1600+ Skill total when the newest skill was farming but i had just started to lose interest when farming rolled around i think. Game was fun till, both do and dont regret my time on that game. I agree that taking out the wildi would be stupid if that happened and i logged in a few times to check on my account every 6 months or so and yeah the grand exchanged really seemed to have slowed down my white phat from just constantly rising in price every week.

I have never, ever, EVER heard ANYONE EVER EVER EVER call it "PvN". I played this game hardcore for about 2 years and EVERYONE EVER ZOMGBBQ called it "PvE" (Player vs Environment), as is the term in every single other MMO in existence.
I still log in from time to time, I literally do nothing but merch, currently sitting a tad shy of a billion. I have no idea why when I don't play, but I guess it's fun to own all the money in the world.
If anyone's starting out and has questions that they cannot find answers for after doing some research on Google and the like, feel free to PM me, and don't ask for my sexy dollahs.

Ya, when I played it again over spring break I took the time to kinda just explore all the things that I hadn't known before, talking to NPCs and stuff like that. There's actually quite a bit of cool somewhat obscure stuff in that world!
And tell me your merchanting tips Ruscour!!!

Don't play this game. It's bad bad bad bad bad bad bad.
User was warned for this post

I've got a 136 account, couple hundred mil.
Been a while since I have seen any interest in RS from anyone on TL.

Well, I guess you could call it PvM or PvE, they all mean basically the same thing. vs NPC/Monster/Environment.
I tried to merch once, made about 1mill off flipping some sara rune armour. Then I was stupid and staked all my money away.

Runescape is a really nice game if you're a person that doesn't mind a little bit of repetition.
Also, the quests are really really nice, there is no single "collect 10 bear asses" quest! Every quest is a puzzle. The combat is a bit bland in comparison to WoW (for example) but it fits the game quite nicely. In fact, the game as a whole just makes sense.
They recently removed the trade limits so that's a plus too. The players itself can be a little childish though, I have this feeling it's mostly played by teenagers on the lower end of the 10 years. But don't let that discourage you, you don't really need other people to play it.
It is not for everyone though.

I played Runescape for years when I was young, back when grinding Blue dragons could earn you enough money to buy the most expensive items in the game with free trade and free wilderness with no restrictions. They have changed it way too much and I stopped playing when they added all the restrictions to it, such as Bounty Hunter and Grand Exchange. Now things are SO different and the market is ridiculous. I know they have removed the restrictions now, according to my friend though after all this time. It certainly doesn't deserve all the stick it gets as well as it is really quite fun and VERY addicting. The Pking used to be the most exhilarating player versus player experience as there was a lot of risk involved in terms of losing, so fun.
Great guide!

I think the essentials are already covered in the actual game, you should go into a bit more advanced things. Also, have a FAQ section so if someone asks a question about the game in the thread you can answer it and add it to the OP.
Blown years on this game myself, sadly they started making good updates once i quit t_t

I do agree that the game is a grind, but if you are new to the game you keep finding new stuff to do like different ways to level a skill or different quests which will make it less repetative.
Also the games quests aren't fun at all in my opinion but if you are planning to be competative in terms of PvP then theres alot of obligatory quests (Some of the high level quests require you to finish alot of other quests in order to finish them),

I'l make a FAQ sections when people start asking questions, but it seems that currently people are just remembering all the time they spent on the game.
I doubt there will be an extreme amount of questions though, since people don't come to TL for information on Runescape.
