Finished both modes yesterday. I really loved this game. Some of the solutions felt a little weak; it was rare to have a feeling of "wow, that was a really clever puzzle and I feel accomplishment having solved it" but overall I thought it was a fantastic game.

Maybe it's the inner nerd in me saying this, but I really enjoyed the story too. The whole Cave/Carline/Chell relationship is awesome to delve in to. Some of the stuff you guys are finding and reposting here is awesome.

In terms of the puzzles, what did you guys enjoy more: the single player or the co-op puzzles?

Nope. There are plenty of lines where you have to stay to hear them. For example, the conveyer belt + fire bit has a good 5 minutes of him talking if you just stand there and listen to him try to convince you. Also if you listen to him and do comeback after you escape the part where he kills you, there is a good 5 minutes of him trying to convince you to jump. Even during the part where he kills you, if you escape right away, you skip the entire speech. Also, the lines after breaking each of the 11 test chamber monitors. Or listening to Glados and going into the test chamber she makes while you are escaping.

Or finding the hidden materials like the Ratman's den or the picture of cave and caroline...


or doing the 2nd half of the game (coop).

lol you can't be like oh I'm done with the game its done im bored and ignore the other half of the game

Found all of the extra areas you mentioned without even trying. There are always parts in the game where you CAN sit around for 10 minutes and let the lines run out, but I'm talking about all of the triggered dialogue after each test chamber and such. I also did the last thing and got gassed...for science.

The main point is that the game pads its length with the huge catwalk sequences that are nothing but "find the tiny white spot" all throughout the underworld levels (with Cave Johnson. Those sections strung together from every part of the game are just as long as the first game in its entirety, which is fucking ridiculous. I spent almost as much time on them as I did in the test chambers.

I'm also thoroughly uninterested in co-op because it doesn't share the storyline (yeah, I saw the bots pop up from time to time in the last few chambers, but I'm guessing that's the extent of it) and I don't have a buddy to play with and I'll be damned if I try it with some random and no voice chat.


Even with that, though, lack of competitive multiplayer and legal modability means it has little to no replay value and is not worth $50 any day of the week. You can beat it in 1-2 days only because it's padded all to hell with uninteresting bits to stick the good bits together, but that's all you'll get out of it.

I'd pay $10-20 for it, not $50. Wait for the price drop.

Co-op is an extension of the single player storyline. Considering it's probably the better 1/2 of the game (gameplay wise, not dialog/writing/story wise) it's stupid to complain about the game when you don't want to play that part of it. That's like complaining L4D is boring when you play with computer allies.

Portal 2 is an extremely good and polished game, but my mind is just blown away by all the unfulfilled potential.

Puzzles could be way harder (both in coming up with the solution and in executing it), it's just a shame that there's no map editor out for it. I think the puzzles we currently see are just the tip of the iceberg of what this engine would be capable of in terms of mind-bending puzzles.

It is, so if you don't have any friends that play it, you derive little interest from it. That's why I didn't buy or even play L4D. If I had 2-3 friends either IRL or from another game that I'd hung out with that had it, I'd consider buying it.

Some ppl have already started to make custom maps for it. They have somehow managed to import the Portal 2 objects into 1 of the other games map editor that runs on the same game engine and made them that way.

I'm pretty mad that they didn't include any micro intensive sequences in the PC version. I understand that they have to make it easier for the consoles, but Valve needs to give the PC community a little bit more. Hopefully user-made content will be more exciting!

i really hope they make a portal 3 soon.

i kinda wanna see they have more test subjects in the aperture place. so you can have a feeling that shes torturing other test subjects and most arent making it out alive. Just to have a more hostile environment.

didnt get that feeling like the first portal with blood smeared on the wall.

i dont think it should be a 10+ rating game.

story was still great and better in the 2nd game but there's so much more to expand on i think

I definitely enjoyed the coop mode, it was funny when we found out that we supposed to bump into each other in the mid air to land safely.

there are already a bunch of custom maps out for portal 2, someone made a custom FGD file for the alien swarm version of hammer, which is being updated frequently (until the real thing comes out)

You're guessing that's the extent of it? so you don't know how far the story line reaches into co op and haven't the fainest idea of how challenging the puzzles are yet you wont even give it a chance?
if this game isn't worth $50 then show me any of the other games that have come out within the last year that have a 100$ price tag and are half as good as this

Some chambers in both sp and coop can be done "improper" ways and then require more manual dexterity. This results in using less portals than designed or less platforms touched than designed. Of course there are no achievements or other recognition for it (at least that i know of now), but it's fun nonetheless.

if you guys want a challenge, do the coop chamber 3 room 3 achievement, but instead of 5 portals, use 4.
