Enjoyed every minute of this, bit disappointed in the ending tho was hoping for a bit more, any ideas on the origin of chell?
+ Show Spoiler +Is she the daughter of cave johnson and caroline? In the 'bring your daughter to work' part there is an experiment which is signed 'by chell'.
I guess we wont find out for another 3 years until the next game.....

Sooo sick just picked it up huge Portal 1 fan and am not disappointed.

Definetely gets really high in my all time favorite games list. Very polished game, only downside for me were a bit easy puzzles, they cut out the hard looking ones from the trailers, guess playtesters were not that hardcore puzzlers
But overall, it's an on awesome game with great settings, story and characters with most personality I have ever seen in a game and they are not even humans, just machines with AI.

She might be adopted daughter, it's mentioned few times in the game.
Don't forget that the story is in the same universe as Half-Life series so she could be related to some HL character aswell.

Finished it now since I was in Spain last week. And all I can say is, wow. Valve continues to amaze me with their innovative minds and great engine, as well as having characters and story that were just great.
The characters and the plot development was just amazing and really gave you answers to the questions you asked yourself after playing the first game, I am referring to the 6th and 7th chapter for those of you who've played it.
What made it even more impressive was having the developers commentary on and listening how they resolved issues and stuff, seriously as someone who has a fair understanding of game design it's just awesome to get to hear how they resolved problems that they encountered.
Not only that but it gives you a lot of insight and makes you more observant of the little things such as how well Wheatley acted when he spoke without having a mouth etc. And damn Glados was just amazing in portal 2 as well. She started of a bit boring but as the game progressed she returned to to being the awesome dark comedic genius that she is.
Also how great wasn't it that Stephen Merchant was the voice actor for Wheatly, not only do I love him as a person but also his voice really fit Whealty's personality. The third main character that was introduced who I won't name as it might spoil it was also very nicely done as well as fitting him into the story without it feeling like they forced it in there.
Overall though I give this game a 9.5/10 it's just amazing but there were still some things that I disliked like some puzzles that just were plain boring and repetitive. Also some functions just weren't any fun using like the white gel and the beams that pulled or pushed things. Just because they just felt like you had to spend a lot more time than you actually wanted to since it took longer to do it than to figure out the puzzle. But then again it made for innovative and less repetitive game play. And also I bet there's a lot of people who loved them though I am not one of them.

portal 2 single player + coop is so much fun - the only game 1 i played in 1 yearnext to sc2 - worth it

Portal 2 had (in my opinion) one gameplay flaw. Many of the "puzzles" you have to solve in the Cave Johnson retro-part are not actually logic thinking. They are mainly searching for missing pieces of the puzzle (finding out where you have to go/finding the place where you have to shoot your damn portal). Didn't like that one aspect of the game too much. Though the test chambers in that part were fine, just the part between test chambers sometimes was a little annoying for me.
Apart from that everything was awesome. I am pretty sure no "part 2" of a game has ever lived up to its huge expectations/hype so well.

Just finished Portal 2 and I am very pleased with it.
I felt the game was a bit too-long, especially the retro missions in the Cave Johnson part. I agree with Dyme in that they're not really logical thinking but just trying to find the one spot that you can place a portal on. But the 2 "bossfights" were really well done and the voice acting was simply superb. Loved it.

Just came across this, I haven't managed to get portal 2 yet, although i did enjoy the first one. There seems to be a lot of hate on portal 2 recently, however the thing that amused me most was the third quoters name "Leathergracket"
From a video i saw of the first 15 minutes it looks good to me!

I wanted Portal 2 to live up to the expectations set by the extremely well done first game. Valve delivered 100%. Really liked the use of the gels. About the ending (DONT click if you havent finished the game) : + Show Spoiler +Was quite emotional too! Seeing that wheat field with the blue sky was exhilarating after being stuck in the test chambers. Freedom! Although this probably means Chell wont be back IF there is a sequel.

I believe they didn't add that sort of gameplay because it is too focused on timings of the portals than the actual logic of the puzzles.

I finished the game a week ago and in hindsight it might actually not be that good. I played through the entire game in 3 sittings with very short breaks in between and I found the puzzles to be way too easy - they were too obvious.
Portal-conductive walls were rare - they were always in places where you were supposed to shoot portals in order to solve the puzzle, and that's a bad thing. You entered a new room, and if you didn't see the solution immediately after looking at the entire room slowly in one walkthrough, you could even solve them by randomly shooting a combination of portals somewhere and see what happens. You didn't need to think enough.
In fact, the only time I needed more than 2-5 minutes on a puzzle was in that area where you have to spray white goo up into that ventilation system - I didn't see the room above the white-goo dispenser in the back of one of the platforms, so I wandered around 10 minutes just searching for anything I could do before finally checking a walkthrough on the internet which said "look up and use your portal gun to get into the room above" and I immediately facepalmed. *sigh*
But that's just the gameplay. There was a lot of story too, right? No, I didn't think so. There was lot of dialogue, yes, very funny dialogue, but it contained almost no story whatsoever. What did you learn about the Portal universe in the game that you couldn't have found out through other sources before the game was even announced? Not a whole lot. And the entire plot was basically: Follow an AI, help AI take over and watch it get insane, follow another AI and destroy evil villain.
We learned a little bit more in depth about Aperture Science's past, but really just more in depth about something that we already knew from Portal 1 (GladoS took over), but that was it.
The game also has almost zero replay value unless you're an achievement hunter, but that's not a point I'm going to criticize here, since that's to be expected from a puzzle game.
The game just didn't have very much substance - it had a lot of lightweight fun, but not substance. The kind of stuff that makes you think about a game even weeks after you've last played it.
All in all it was a very enjoyable experience. Everything was very well presented and it was a pretty cinematic experience - also very different from the kind of games we usually play. But it definately won't make my "Favourite 10 games ever" list, probably not even Top 20 or 30 (yes I played a lot of games in my time).
By the way, I considered writing lengthier reviews of games and post them here as blogs, but I didn't want to waste my time in case people didn't like the way I write or reason anyways, so tell me please if you would welcome that or rather not .

That type of gameplay you are looking for will come! Just gotta wait.

This is a £10 game at best. Simplistic, casual, 4 hours long with no replay value. £65 worth of DLC on launch day, all of them cosmetic upgrades which are already in the game files, accessible through an ingame cash shop. Well written, although it has the worst end boss 'fight' I've seen in a while. If you're interested in buying this game I'd recommend waiting for the inevitable summer steam deal.

I feel smart for solving the puzzles, but i feel dumb and stupid if i get stuck. This game melts my brain TT

It's not 4 hours of content. It's only 4 hours if you give a conservative estimation of the time to complete 1/2 of the game. There's absolutely no way you're completing both the co-op and the single player in 4 hours.
Your comments about the DLC are just as worthless as the items they're selling in the shop. Who cares when/what is released as cosmetic DLC?

Beat it in ~4 1/2 hours. Pretty good single player, but I felt like it kind of outstayed its welcome. There were noticeable stretches where it felt like it was just being padded out a bit with no real witty exposition and some kind of boring puzzles (think extended catwalk sequences between test chambers, the middle half of the final third, all that.)
It feels like the charm that Portal had from coming out of left field as a cheap indie game and "making it" is stretched like cellophane wrap almost to its breaking point through the course of the game and it kind of outstays its welcome, by the end you just want it over and done with.
Oh yeah, and I'll add one thing: I had to look at a guide 3 times: Twice it was just to find the 2 square inch platform between test chambers where I was supposed to shoot my portal during the 2nd third of the game. It's amazingly frustrating but doesn't provide that "ah-ha" catharsis you get by actually figuring out a puzzle, it's just a damn "Where's Waldo".
I wouldn't waste $50 on this game, go torrent it if you really want it RIGHT NOW or wait for the price drop and buy it legit. I plan on doing both.

Pretty sure the devs themselves said they clocked the game in just under 6 hours and they knew how to do every puzzle ?

Well some poeple just try to speed through the chambers and not enjoy the many witty lines throughout.
Oh, and then they come on TL and say there was very little witty exposition lol
