What is Cultris II?
-Cultris II is a fanmade Tetris game based around Combos. It plays very similarly to the battle versions of Tetris Friends and Tetris Battle on Facebook.
What are Combos?
-Combos represent the amount of lines that you can clear in a given amount of time. This is different from combos in other Tetris games where combos are used to represent how many lines you can clear back to back.
With that in mind Cultris II differentiates itself from other tetris games by being extremely fast and placing a heavy emphasis on comboing. There is no hold system for Cultris II and it does not use a grab bag generator which mean you are likely to see both droughts and floods of pieces when you play. Cultris II does not have ARE (aka spawn delay) which means it plays much faster than games that do have spawn delay implemented such as tetrisfriends or Nullpomino. In addition to having no ARE tetriminos lock automatically to encourage faster play. T-spins are still possible although not much is gained from them due to the emphasis on speed. Kicks do not seem to work.
Comboing in Cultris
Cultris II evaluates combos based on time and not consecutive lines cleared. This means speed is the major deciding factor on how large your combos are. Other deciding factors include how many lines were cleared to start the initial combo, and how many lines are cleared at a time and how combo friendly your current setup is.
Your initial number of lines cleared is extremely important to how much time you have to pull off a combo. The following illustrates how much time you have to start if you, Tetris, Triple, Double, and Single respectively.

If you are already in a combo clearing at least 1 line will increase the counter on your combo and give you a bit more time to continue your combo. The time gained from clearing additional lines depends on how many lines you clear. You gain much less time for lines that are not your initial clear that starts the combo.

2 Singles are cleared in rapid succession. Notice how the total time gained is less than the sum of 1 Single combo starters.
In addition to the info mentioned above you will stop gaining time once you have a combo of 5 "Impressive" and will LOSE time once you have a combo of 7 "Perfect".

A combo of 3, an "Impressive", and a "Perfect". In addition to being cool you send more lines for each additional piece you clear in the combo. For example a combo of 3, 4 and 5 would send 3, 5, and 8 pieces respectively.
You can make combos easier for yourself by setting up properly. Generally one won't have much of a chance to do this as they'll be too busy clearing garbage after the first 15 seconds but at the start of the game a set up like these will put you in a good position:

Leaving two lines instead of 2 in beneficial since almost every piece will be able to contribute to your combo if you have two spaces (ironically the only one that can not is the I piece).
In addition to the standard VS mode there are other modes such as Survival where garbage is automatically gained at an increasing rate for all players. Speed mode makes the fastest player send garbage to the slowest player at an steady rate and Swiss Cheese mode is a race to see who can clear all of the garbage first:

In this picture I've set myself up for a nice combo with the T and J piece. Hopefully the piece after that will prove to be equally useful.
If you don't want to play multiplayer the game also includes a load of single player challenges for you to try out:
