the primary benefit is not having to lead, so a sniper is just as effective at 1k as 100m if your aim is perfect. Means you can burn down light cappers who are getting too much air and speed to be chained/projectiled effectively. Good snipers need incredible aim, that's all it comes down to. once you have that, there's no way an enemy can avoid your shots easily without hiding behind a rock, and if you play smart that's hard. Try dueling against a good BXT sniper sometime, you have 10 seconds to kill him or you're dead, simple, and he's jetting and bouncing around like a pathfinder. Good luck.

you 2 shot lights anywhere on the map, which is great for killing flag carriers, it may be the best way to kill them.

When chasers can't catch a flag carrier, your only hope is to snipe him and two fully charged shots (one often kills a light) given that they may have taken damage from going near the flag stand or boosting themselves with things like nitrons or thumper/spinfusor jumping
As you may have noticed, nothing in tribes (aside from fusion mortars from time to time) 1hits a full life opponent. This only builds on the fact that speed is of a top priority because it makes you virtually unhittable by any of the projectiles. As long as a sniper has line of sight on you, he can do damage which is something that none of the other classes can do

500 damage is more than 50% health of light classes, also in many situations cappers don't have full health when they are coming in on top of that they are also being damaged on the flag stand if your teams defense is any good. Also the sniper smg is probably the best smg in the game. I pretty much snipe in 75%+ of matches I play, by far the easiest class to get kills with, imo.

And in previous tribes games you could also mine disc which would one hit lights.

Silly question but you do know there are two levels of zoom?

Looks like some other people are also getting email beta keys so I thought that I would post mine up here as well.
So if you don't already have the game here's a key:

You have to like them on facebook for a key, it's cute that you're sharing and all. But if you wanted to be in the beta you would've been in it by now.

Doesn't change the points I was making

Good players like kakle never miss and generally snipers in CTF will have the highest kills in comp play

It cannot be overstated that this does not necessarily mean they are the best or most impactful players, just that their role allows them to get the most killing blows.

anytime i see a good sen they are top in kills on pubs too. i dont play comp but 500 damage is too much in my opinion.
it pretty much means u cant cap as a lights on certain maps when they dont miss. g it really is overpowered. I dont mind getting one shot from disc or even 2 shot. but being 2 shot from sniper shots that are basically unavoidable unless iam standing behind something.
the only time i see people with higher kills is fractal spamming ...

Been playing Tribes: Ascend a bit more as of late as they really improved the game over the last few months. Though I kinda ran in a problem when I tried to purchase the VIP pass to support the company (and yeah, to get gold and faster xp too :p) Illustrated the problem here: ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/IgB5j.png)
If the image is too large I can remove the image tags.

had the exact same problem ... from my experience its a problem with paypal depending on what country you are from. i had the same problem with swtor but my friend from germany could do the transaction without a problem.
if anyone has a solution though, i would be delighted to hear ...

yes depending on what country you are in, paypal can require you to have a CC on your account in order to send funds.

HiRez is the only company where I have to use a CC to pay for a non-subscription based product. Steam, Origin, (except SWTOR, no idea what kind of strange construction they did there...), Desura, GoG, Minecraft all no problem. It's just HiRez.
