From what I remember at least, it has been a while. But I heard there is a mod that does a good job fixing balance and the combat, so if anyone is grabbing it you should at least look into it. To be honest, the combat mod is even worse than the original gameplay. The gameplay in general is pretty bad, but the witcher 1 and 2 is still for me the best RPG out there, since the story and world is well crafted and it's one of the few games where your choices actually have consequences for your playthrough (=totally different second chapter). I hope they get the gameplay right in the third installation.

I hope they get the gameplay right in the third installation. I picked up TW2 during the last summer sale, and I've been pretty disappointed. I only made it through the first 2 acts (I think) before I got too bored to continue. I thought the story was ok, but nothing special, and I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting. As for gameplay, it seems like I spent ~75% of my time running back and forth across the map... Fights were pretty fun, but not very challenging, even with the combat rebalance mod. It felt more like an interactive story to me than a game, with pretty cutscenes but not much else. Overall I'd give it a 4/10.

It was like a advanced form of the diablo point and click where timing mattered more. Witcher 2 tries so hard to be an action game, but hit detection is way off and animations are slow, random and awkward. That all makes you dodge for 5 minutes and then try to single out one enemy and beat him quickly and then dodge for 5 minutes again. Or just break the whole combat thing with the shield spell. And this highly praised "combat mod from the developers" is even worse. Not to mention it changes EVERYTHING about the game, not just combat. Most of it for the worse, imo. So yeah, i hope that guy who made the mod was just some code slave and not an actual witcher 3 designer, cause that game will be in trouble then.

It is kind of weird to me to have those "US only" sales. Amazon is a global company. Do they not like money? Why not take money from people who are not in the US? Is their money worse? In my opinion, this whole region locked stuff is completely antiquated in the days of the internet, and it is incredibly silly when you can deliver products worldwide with absolutely no additional effort since they are digital and send via the internet to then artificially try to segregrate that into different areas and countries. If someone has money and wants to buy your stuff, why does it matter where they are? Yea its a complete joke. I don't understand why there isn't international laws that deal with IP, copyright & licensing in particular. Dealing with a global market has got to be an utter nightmare for these companies which is why I'm not surprised we get shafted and miss all these deals. Been looking again to see If I could find BF4 for a reasonable price region free. So far nadda. Was at least expecting someone to be reselling the origin keys they got cheap the other day. AU gets shafted exceptionally hard when it comes to game pricing for just about everything.

Anyway I got Independence War 2 on GoG for about one dollar (!). Apparently it was a really great space sim, and since I've already played Freelancer I've got to go backwards in time a bit for another good space sim. Up next will probably be Freespace 2 which was supposed to be amazing (plus they have mod support to update the graphics). But I'll wait for the sale. Also if anyone is interested in IW2, you will have to search around for a mouse.ini file to copy into your installation directory so that you can play with a mouse. Or you need a joystick, for which they have a built in ini (it was made for joystick users). Of course if you *really* wanted to, you could also play with keyboard only.

It's less good but a lot longer. If you like that kind of stuff, I feel 10$ is worth it. I don't know how's the PC port and I'd guess it requires a gamepad probably anyway.
