What's the best way to make an impact just starting out? I tried heavy assault rocketing people. How do you capture facilities? I noticed the bar ticking down, do you have to kill the defending forces and then camp it? It looked like there was only one battle on the whole map, everyone zerging one facility - is it always like that?

If you're not part of an outfit already, press F11 as soon as you spawn at the warpgate to join a random squad or go to the social -> squad menu to look for squads you can join. You're never going to make an impact as long as you're running around alone. Look for a squad and see how you can contribute best. There are 1 - 3 capture points ( A, B, C ). As soon as your faction holds one of these, your influence bar will go up. It goes up faster when you have more territories bordering to the one you're currently at, and it goes up faster when you hold more points. You'll basically want to hold all the points. For the Tech Labs, Biodomes and Amp Stations there are several different approaches implemented. It's probably best to just ask in /re or /sq chat once you're at one of these. That's unfortunate and terribly inefficient but that's how the zerg works. If you'd like more tactical gameplay, look for an outfit ( there are recruitment threads on the official forums ) and play with them. To be honest, that's the only way I could imagine playing this game anyways.

I mean at 4am there might only be one fight really going on. But there are 3 continents now so maybe your faction isn't as focused on where you are than they are someplace else. Primetime there's fighting going on all over the place. There will always be the main zerg herp derping around but you'll find squads taking this, outfits taking that. Some targets are so fortified you need a massive effort to take them so those warm bodies of the zerg can keep the enemy busy while the better players actually do the important stuff to take over an area. Sometimes your squad will take the area and leave to let the zerg hold it. The zerg does serve some purpose but it's not really the way you want to play. Find an outfit, make friends, join squads, actually heal/rez if you're a medic. Hack vehicle consoles as a infiltrator and spawn an AMS Sundy and deploy it. The game (like most games) is infinitely more fun with friends and when working together. Hell, I found a well organized outfit I like purely by dumb luck. The leader has the same name as a MMOing friend of mine so I thought it was him, started talking to him, turns out it wasn't my buddy but fuck it, they've got their shit together and are a lot of fun.

No official patch notes released, but in a few video interviews with Higby (head developer), he said the next patch will include things like owning bio labs will decrease spawn time, owning tech labs will give other benefits etc. Also, capping an entire continent (pushing both factions back to the warpgate) will give Empire wide bonuses until another faction completely caps the continent back. Other changes include possible health buff to maxes, more bug fixes, optimization, etc.
