For all UK TL'ers, this months PC Gamer has priority beta codes. I'm not sure if this guarantees it but if not, it probably bumps you up the list. Just entered my code in.

What all did they change? Oshur was replaced with the battle islands (BFRs, Galaxies and main battle tanks are banned from them). Auraxis was destroyed and replaced or some such nonsense yet the gates still go to the new planets(old continates). Lattices were shuffled. Lots of new vechiles, new weapons.

Ahh, does the island ban apply to heavy weapons like the jackhammer and chaingun? That would explain why I could not use mine.

IIRC it's actually possible to buy new weapons/modifications with sony credits instead of ingame ressources/money? ( Kinda like in Tribes:Ascend ) Not exclusively sony credits but still - people are definitely going to cry pay2win. ( Which is of course nonsense, the only thing that changes is the time you need to invest in order to get something )

( Which is of course nonsense, the only thing that changes is the time you need to invest in order to get something ) That's exactly what pay2win means, there's pretty much no pay2win game where you can buy stuff you can't get by investing time, it's just that you have to invest a ton of time to get good stuff while people who pay get it immediately. Common pay2win thing is where ingame money buys weapons for a limited period while real money buy weapons permanently. This makes the game way less fun unless you pay, but you CAN play enough to buy weapons as you need them.

Of course they are going to say that it won't make it less fun, every single f2p game out there makes promises like that before release. Who the hell would bother to play it if they just said "yeah, fuck you if you dont pay". The only good way to do f2p is with skins, hats or other stuff that doesn't affect gameplay at all. Also, treating this like CS is the most dare I say stupid and ignorant thing you could possibly do. It's not like you're trading off between a deagle and AK with an "optional AWP unlock". You would for instance be getting higher accuracy but trading in lower bullet damage. Give and take on weapons to fit particular playstyles. As in, customizing your loadout for particular situations and what you personally enjoy. And from what we've seen and what has been announced (IE: 10 minutes per CERT point said by Higby) and the prices of guns, it's not going to be like Tribes was where you had to grind for 3 weeks to get one gun or pay $5 to get it instead or something. So far everything seems very reasonable in the pricing. Anything that makes you ACTUALLY stronger you can only pay with ingame resources. Weapons are going to be working in a TF2 style way. You can buy or play for weapons that have bonus', but also have downsides and (hopefully) the default weapons will, like TF2, be all around the "best" but other weapons have their times to come in. We can't know how the balance will work, and we can't know for sure until we get our hands on the finished product. However, everything they are saying is promising and what we are seeing is even more promising. However, if you want to flail around going "NO ITS BULLSHIT DEVS ARE EVIL AND ALWAYS LIE TO US" you can go ahead. However the game is free to fucking play. When I go in I'll play, and if it's possible to get weapons in a reasonable amount of time and they truly are sidegrades for personal choice, I'll be happy and continue playing and probably drop $50 on it to support these awesome developers that have been so good to me in the past with the original Planetside and buy some cosmetic shit and stuff to deck my character out. If not, I'll uninstall the game and move on with my life. On that note, if you play other SOE games you are getting double the station cash for your purchase for today (July 4th) only. Get it while it's hot if you are overly hyped for PS2 or play other SOE games :D EDIT: Let me just throw in a note here. I was heavily skeptical about this game for about a year when I first heard of it. I really thought they were going to fuck this up with SOE and that they should leave Planetside alone. The more I saw, the more I heard, and the more I SAW the more I began to ease into it. This game is looking promising. Does it have potential to flop hard? Of course. But everyone who played it so far at E3 is only giving positive reviews. Everything we are seeing is legitimate and they are substantiating what they are saying. You can fucking tell these developers are passionate about this game. More passionate than most dev teams are about their games dare I say, the most I've publicly seen at least. You can tell they love video games as a whole and want to make something truly unique and fun here. That much is enough to make me excited for this game. Because I know this game is being made by people who love gaming and love their game and want it to succeed, and I highly doubt they're going to try and undercut us with some bullshit pay to win or grind to win system out of nowhere. The concern shouldn't be pay to win. It's obviously not that if you know what the term means. The concern is it going to be a grindfest where the only way to progress in a reasonable amount of time is to pay out of pocket. If the answer is yes, it's a shame. However, what we're seeing is NO and more importantly what we are seeing is that new players are on pretty even ground with veterans in terms of stat differences and tangible advantages. Which is good. The deciding factor here is CERT to be honest more than anything, and Higby already said 10 minutes per CERT point. So unless you want to come out and just say he's outright lying about that, it's looking positive. But as always, cautious optimism.
