There was no war, they were elected willfully by the people of Earth centuries ago after a massive war to bring peace to Earth, hence "Terran (Earth) Republic". It was just everyone coming together to stop war forever and EVERYONE in the solar system loves them, they still have completely legitimate elections and they are extremely peaceful, successful, and generally pretty fucking well off. This isn't me talking as a TR player, this is me talking objectively from what was released in the new lore. It isn't like a Big Brother thing where everyone "loves" the TR, no, everyone legitimately is awesome with the TR and it's not corrupt whatsoever back on Earth and on the colonized planets. Where the issue comes in is after the wormhole. When the wormhole closed, there were things such as curfews put in place to keep order and they were not lifted. Whether it's the TR leadership who is now in quite the pickle trying to restore order (which is the entire point of the TR) or them power grabbing now that they are separated from their actual leadership is unknown. However, the TR that is being 'oppressive' beyond the wormhole does not represent the TR back on Earth and on the other planets. ---- Nonetheless, the only reason these "oppressive" measures must be taken is the drastic circumstances. If the dirty New Conglomerate corporate pigs didn't use their mercenaries and trick their workers under a false pretense of "freedom" (read: chaos) and the Vanu were not blinded by religious zeal, these measures would not be necessary to be taken. However, order must be restored! Allowing the rebels to "free" themselves would be foolish. They have no plan, no endgame. If in their wildest fantasies they managed to beat back the might of the Republic, a despot would rise from the military leaders that run the Conglomerate and then another rebellion under the pretense of "freedom" would arise. I wonder how many centuries it would take until we reach the New New New New New New New Conglomerate Rebellion... Don't support chaos. Don't support blind religious zeal. Don't support death. The Terran Republic has been a bastion of human peace and hope for centuries and the order that it brings has brought humanity through worse than what we must ordeal now. The only way to survive is unity. And unity MUST be restored. EDIT: But really, the glory of Planetside Lore is that no side is "wrong". Every side can be logically justified and neither side can lose with the nano-rebuilding technology. It's a never ending war with just causes on all sides. EDIT 2: I got a little out of hand there. | ||
