So even though I'm kinda late in this I've realized that you can only get the in - game rivet gun if you pre-order Dead Space 2 ...

I dunno but limiting the rivet gun to people who only pre-orders the game is kinda unfair, since people who go directly to game shops to buy the CDs won't be able access the rivet gun.
What do you guys think about this?

I have no idea if there is multiplayer in Dead Space 2 or not, I assume not, but that would be the only way I would have a problem with content being for certain buyers.
If you want the rivet gun, then I suggest buying it the way you can get the rivet gun =/
Usually pre-ordered guns and so forth aren't that great anyways.
I pre-ordered 3 games not too long ago. LBP2, DS2, and MvC3 and none of those pre-order items are really worth pre-ordering. I did it because the gf wanted the Clu costume in LBP2 and I might as well get the other 2 since I'm getting those 1st day also.
Pre-orders should offer aesthetic bonuses only imo. It's a dirty marketing scheme, one that probably works quite well, but still. I get the idea that some developers may want to offer something to loyal customers who will pre-order no matter what because they have been waiting for the game, but for the people who are on the fence, it nudges them one way over another.
It wholy depends how the weapons are balanced. Chances are the devs aren't that shortsighted to make the rivet gun into a must-have or at least very strong weapon, unless they want their multiplayer to fail from the very start.
If the weapon has comparable stats to other, vanilla guns or if it fits into the arsenal without giving advantages to preorder customers then everything is alright.
And considering we're talking about Dead Space here, there are much more pressing issues than a bonus gun fans should be worried about (controls, interface, console port).
I really don't like the trend of exclusive dlc for pre-orders, that is unachievable in any other manner. A visual change to units/portraits would be acceptable, or at least more understandable.
Is the Rivet Gun even available to those getting the game on PC? I know PC gamers often get the short end of the stick on multi-platform games.
i hate these pre-order bullshit bonuses. pre order fallout nv and get a bunch of gamebreaking weapons. pre order dragon age and get 1k gold in items. pure bullshit.
