My old squad told me that they are coming together for BF3 - but I have some questions. In a clanwar : -What weapons do you play with ? Is everything unlocked ? Only the stuff you previously unlocked ? Is everything locked ? Obviously it has to be the same setting for all or this game is of absolutely no interest to me. - Are the maps too big for 8v8 or do they play out good enough for that. - Should I wait for a patch or is it fairly balanced ... Thanks. Hey man, our team has been scrimming twice a night on most nights so I think i have a good grasp on how BF3 plays out in the competitive environment.(played bf2 and 2142 at the top level in clans etcetc). The big vehicle maps are too big to work for 8v8 in my opinion. Our team has been scrimming in the following format -10v10 -All maps on conquest small mode, apart from bazaar which is set on 64p with tickets adjusted -Stock Weapons only, no attachments, -All vehicle perks bar thermal optics allowed Suprisingly 10v10 works pretty well on caspian and firestorm, despite being large vehicle maps. Even though there are a lot of vehicles, we only run 1 person in the jet just as anti helicopter role on these big maps. I defintely get that BF vibe where your infantry and vehicles form into this cohesive team where you push flags together and then settle into tight lockdowns once you get the bleed (No capouts unfortunately ). Taking out armour on the infantry maps is really interesting due to the overpowered repair rate from engy sluts, you basically have to synchronise your AT and own armour fire at the same time to take it down. Seine small CQ is an awesome map to play, such a highly tactical map because of the high ground that reminds me of mashtuur 16p in BF2. I think the smaller infantry maps would defintely work for 8v8, but not for vehicle maps. Regarding the balance, our team has been flying the stock only no attachments flag in the australian community (we are the minority ). If this is the case it works out quite balanced as russia has map advantages but a shittier assault rifle and carbine. Balance will go out the window if F2000/SCAR-H with foregrips are allowed in clan wars lol.

And I have to look for the ESL/clanbase rules, maybe they clarify the unlock/attachment question. Well seems like I have to buy the game after all :D

I think that it would be pretty damn awesome if we found some platoons that would go 32v32 with us. We have talked about jumping on some squad deathmatch servers or squad rush and wrecking face, which I'm sure we would do. But I feel that we would be even better at a true team based Conq match. Anyways, those are just my thoughts, and in all likelyhood they would be to scared to fight us anyways. ~Spartan

The whole "platoon" element is only a way of breaking armies into more manageable chunks. Recruit as many as you can get, do a search for the larger clans, and send them a challenge. Probably the best way to go about it. Upshot is you get the TL server filled pretty easily.

It's difficult to get everyone from both teams on at a particular time. Besides, most of the maps are optimized for 16v16 combat anyways (like going above that in Rush mode is a bad idea) Honestly, the combat isn't that different when doing 16 v 16 as opposed to 32 v 32. You generally won't have combat going on as many places at once, but the tendency for 1 or 2 squads to run into each other won't change. You usually don't have more than 8 people in a firefight at a particular time anyways, even on 32 v 32.

BF isnt about large scale warfare, its about utlising the strengths of infantry and all different vehicles to cover each types weakness in both firepower and mobility :D. I have played 8v8,10v10 and 16v16 ladders, and this BF feeling exists in all of them! To articulate better, everyone watch the battle at 17:00minutes onwards in this video. Quality is shit but basically blue vs red etc video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2350596256844533001 Truly amazing and captures what battlefield is all about.

Unfortunately, I've only got a Macbook Pro and an Xbox 360. Should I just buy this game on my Xbox or save up to build a new computer for BF3?

A minute ago I had over 3 rounds were I went over 30 kills and under 10 deaths every time, all the while throwing c4 on peoples feet/jihad jeeping/c4'ing vehicles all over the place/knifing it up. I'm amazed I didn't just kick back before like this. I am even getting more flag caps, one reason I think I'm doing better though is that I didn't have IRVN scopes for any support guns (now I do) and those scopes are addicting but also make you slow as hell moving around the map since you "scan" every five or six seconds. No more stiff play for me, all about the fun! You are now playing BF3 correctly You should find a good blackhawk pilot and drop c4 bombs on peoples head. Did this with a buddy last night, we laughed our asses off for 2 hours straight.

Am I the only one who misses bombing runs? Missile pods are cool I guess, but it's not the same as dropping unguided bombs in horizontal flight. :/

I would say it's F2000. Once you get proper accessories it really shines above all of the other assault guns. More accurate than AEK imo, and a really high rate of fire.

Lol'd so fucking hard. EDIT* To the above poster, concensus seems to be F2000, which i still havent got though so cant say much about it. M416 is the one i use with IRNV. Accurate and fairly damaging. *Edit2* watched it again and laughed as hard this time, this guy is my hero.

What do you mean stock only, though? As in nothing but M4/M16/M249/Mk 11? Surely, "weapon balance is fine if we use absolutely none of the alternative weapons" is a bit of a silly statement. That's kind of like saying starcraft 2 would be balanced so long as you only allow T1. I understand that it might make sense and work well (unlike using only T1 lol), but if you have to do that to make it competitive the game sure as hell isn't balanced. Also I'd always expected the engineer repair thing to be utterly broken if you ever found people willing to just sit there and camp-repair your tank. Does that cause real problems if you have two teams doing it? And what's your normal class breakdown for your team?
