I played my first Rush round today (in Bf3) and what you are saying is exactly why i hate Rush. Conquest isn't that bad, but god Rush is just so awful.
Haven't tried rush yet, but in conquest maps like metropolis or grand bazaar... oh man rockets everywhere LOL
Not sure if its because im used to the SV98 with 300 kills but i just cant hit shit with the m40a5, perhaps its time to give up recon...or start umping my way to m98b.
So my buddy and I were thinking of ways to disable the jets of the other team for the whole game. What we came up with is, for example on caspian border, fly the gunship low around the outside of the map at the start of the game. Come in on their runway and I hop out, I'm always the gunner cause my flying skills blow, then proceed to put c4 in a line across the runway. I would hop back in before the 10 secs are up to reset the timer if I needed. Then you blow up the c4 and it leaves craters on the runway for the rest of the game causing the airplanes to blow up if they try and take off.
There you have it. Once you take down their jets there won't be anymore flying for the rest of the match. Then you only have to worry about the opposing gunship, which is far easier to take down then the jets imo.
As far as I can tell, the m40a5 has nearly perfect accuracy. If you can't hit stuff, it's probably because you're not that good at hitting with the first shot. Having to zoom-out between every shot does hurt your aim somewhat, but once you get the upgrade that stops this it should be easier. Until you got this, I recommend you stay zoomed until you see where the bullet hit before zooming-out to chamber another round.
This aside my main question is what exactly determines the damage the m40a5 does? I don't know why, but I think about 80% of my shots with the gun will 1-shot an enemy even when it isn't a headshot. My question is, why not the other 20%? Do different classes have different armor like BF2? (I didn't see this mentioned anywhere) Does the damage vary on range? Do have to hit a specific part, like the torso?
If anyone knows it'd be appreciated.
On an interesting note, I once managed to actually kill 2 people with 1 bullet from this gun.

Several problems with this:
1) Most runways have an emplaced AA defence nearby. 2) Gunships are actually fairly good at killing other gunships once they got the heat-seeking missles. 3) If you ever start getting too strong, they'll just have a few engineers pick up stingers and you won't be able to fly anything 4) It's very probable that this kind of thing would get you banned as exploiting
Setting that side, does C4 even crater the runway?

Well yeah the thing is with the SV98 i guess you have to compensate quite alot more, havent been able to figure out the M40A5 yet, partly because for some reason i cant actually see the bullets the way i can with the sv98.
On a related note i got a double headshot with the SV98 once =D

As an aside, we play on 360 if that makes a diff in any of your views. 1) AA only matters if people actually are in it. I find at the start of games and even throughout most of the game they usually aren't in them. 2) We are both pretty leveled up for the gunship and he has the heat seeking missiles for pilot. I have the guided missile for the gunner. 3) Stingers are going to be getting nerfed. From what my friend said they'll have reduced damage and he's pretty sure lock ons will take longer. Also this is like point 1 where you're entrusting enough people to be intelligent and actively try and take us down. 4) Why would we get banned for exploiting if we figured out a way that it works? If they give us a warning to tell us to knock it off and they'll be patching it but until then don't do it. Then we were to keep doing it. Sure ban us. But just cause we found a way that their system is flawed they wouldn't no warning ban us. If they did then good, I don't want to play a game like that anyways.
My friend has done it a few times and said it did crater the runway. We're gonna run some tests first before trying it on the enemy team though just to be sure.
some maps have no way round narrow chokepoints, no flanking, no nothing. So if one side is ahead 1 objective they just set up camp and spam explosives until the enemy gets a sqaud trough 100 deaths later. Its really just mapdesign and not the rockets that are the problem.
And the smaller infantry maps where 10 people set up mortars at spawn are the worst, cant even shoot them like in BC2.

wich class has mortar? never saw anyone use them :O

@TunaBarrett Make sure you stay zoomed until the shot goes through. you should see the glowy to be able to tell where it hits. There is zero horizontal deviation as far as I can tell when firing. It'll be easier once you have a stand to sit it on so it doesn't sway
@Xinder Does guided missle work as AA? I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I thought it went with the recon laser-pointer thing so that once the recon targetted something, it will autolock.
That aside, jumping out of the helicopter in the spawn area of the map which is marked to kill you if you're on the ground there to lay c4 then hopping back in before the timer is up is clearly exploiting. The clear intention of this timer is to stop people from doing things like you're talking about and stealing vehicles from the main spawn.
lol @ coop mode, although some parts of it are retarded (same as in campaign), you get the unlocks REALLY fast. so you guys should try it out.
what do you think, will there be something like a competetive scene for bf on pc? are their vods or streams of high level matches (by that i mean all are playing on a high level, not just one guy owning people)? would love to see those. =)
On November 01 2011 03:01 LaNague wrote: yes, support. and they dont need direct sight like in BC2
Mortar has unlimited ammo supply also, am i right? You can kill with it easily but you can get killed as easily.
The main issue is once you set up the mortar you appear on the map for both sides. Translation: one mortar can shoot at another mortar, and it's common to kill another mortar on your first shot. Thus if some crazy situation happens like 3 mortars on one side, it's common for one player to switch to mortar, fire off rounds nailing all the of them. (I've done this)

No sorry. I didn't mean to imply the guided missle could be used for AA. Just meant to point out we were fairly progressed for the gunship.
As for the exploiting thing. I'd still expect a warning first instead of just an auto ban. I'm not too worried about it. Maybe it will get them to revisit that system since we found a way around something that wasn't intended. Maybe we would have figured it out during beta if only they had let consoles play on a vehicle map. >_<

I don't get it. I play rush all the time, and the rocket/rpg spam isn't anywhere near as bad as what you claim for me. I dunno, sure there is some spam, but it's not different from conquest. The only difference is that there is a little more concentration of fire due to the actual gametype. But MOST maps are big enough that if you're just getting spammed, you just have to run around the edges and shoot half the idiots in the back. And rockets don't have near the AoE that previous battlefield games had, or so it seems to me. I've hit right next to a lot of people and not killed them. The problem is people getting near missed by one and going prone behind a car/wall to heal when they should just be running as fast as possible to permanent cover.
