I would be extremely disappointed if this is true. Battlefield games never had vehicle regeneration. If they did, the engineering class (repair/) would be pointless. i read a preview where the writer said that tanks will regenerate a little bit of health outside of battles. Could you link to that? They said that about health as in the actual player health but didn't say that about vehicles. IGN recently released a pretty extensive preview article for the multiplayer. http://pc.ign.com/articles/117/1172554p1.html
Vehicles have also been tweaked in Battlefield 3, in hopes of making them more fun for both the operator and passengers. Vehicles regenerate small amounts of health when damaged, but in order to heal to full will need the assistance of an Engineer. Vehicles can also be immobilized right before destruction, forcing an Engineer to intervene to save it, and giving the passengers a chance to bail out. The hope is that this will alleviate a lot of the rage that comes from a team jumping into a humvee, only to be destroyed by one well placed rocket. Yes, the rocket might kill the person it blows up right next to, but the whole squad won't be punished for one crazy driver, or feel like vehicles are death traps.
This seems to make vehicles a less frustrating experience for players. I assume that on huge, open maps, it'll be difficult to find Engineer classes around, so the regenerating health is a bit of a compensation for non-Engineer vehicle drivers.

I don't agree with the regen, but the fact that you don't instantly die because some random idiot charged into enemy crossfire, trying to assault a heavily fortified position seems nice. Happens way too often.

Yeah I saw that yesterday... the graphics are excellent.
Another good video (though you might want to skip some parts since it's 17 minutes long) + Show Spoiler +

I agree. However, I like to this see as a good thing for one reason. There are less "casuals" going to be playing BF3 apparently, which is fine by me.

there's still going to be plenty of CoD players crying about BF3 not playing like CoD

I stopped reading that article when my logical thinking deducted it was bias after reading the first line in the article.
"Without a doubt, the most anticipated game of 2011 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3."
Fanboy journalist will not adhere to objectivity comparing the 2 titles...

I really like the idea of disabling vehicles instead of completely destroying them and everything in it when you shoot a rocket at it. In BF2 you felt more vulnerable when sitting inside an armored humvee which does not really make much sense.

Bc2 also humvees and the such are STRICTLY for getting to point A to B.

I wanted to see how bad this article truly is, but I couldn't read past that sentence. I just couldn't.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this - I skimmed through the last few pages and didn't see much.
In-Depth Q&A: http://live-event.ea.com/e3/chat/battlefield
Perhaps the thing that REALLY caught my attention was around 36 minutes; they make mention of E-Sports groups (e.g. MLG)... perhaps something potential in the near future?
Also in said Q&A: defibrillator people for kills... best piece of news I've heard all day! =D

Yes he is but I wished they would have showcased the console version of BF3. I already know the PC version will look amazing but I'm still wondering about PS3/Xbox.

Yeah haha. Ive got in a few times with the controls reversed (because for some dumb reason, the uav is reversed controls compared to the chopper) and faceplanted the chopper into trees or buildings. I find it hilarious, the chopper gunner on the other hand...

Have they released any sort of PC requirements for the game yet? I think I might have to build a new computer for this one.

not suprising he was mad since usually its a lottery in who gets to be the gunner (10 people awaiting the chopper to respawn)
edits:
you know it doesnt suprise me these cod fanbois and activision themself are attacking bf so hard, they're trying to defend what was once a good game, i myself have bought every cod at release date until after mw2. if dice can pull out some epic close combat maps im sure we'll win out most of the proper cod fans to bf anyways because who really does enjoy random nades from the map and the no-skill weapons and noobtube. Infact nearly all cod weapons can be used very successively by just spray-n-pray and the quality dice seems to put in on this simply cant be ignored, everything from graphics to how weapons handle is fine tuned to be as real as possible
