Then play oblivion? Franchises have to evolve over time to add incorporate newer members effectively and keep fans that aren't diehard.
I'd love to but I already beat the whole thing so here's what would be on my 'dream shopping list' if I were designing the next elder scrolls :D + Show Spoiler +
5x the map size of Oblivion 5x the cities huge wilderness with lots of wildlife non-levelling enemies gaining XP from enemies as well as repeating certain actions another 3 guilds of different types 10x as many missions Huge main plot that only can be accessed after you have completed huge chunks of side missions Giants and crazy things roaming around in the wilderness A huge spider lair and an underground with a Balrog sort of creature 100x as many weapons :D of all different types Much harder guards More complete sneaking/ assassination mechanism More complicated economy, ability to buy and run shops, buy land and build houses :D and even hire guards to protect your property :D Hunger system and sleep system that also works on enemies People actually noticing stuff going missing and then working out who it was, and you getting a reputation that you can't shake if you get caught. Way more complicated speechcraft system, like, 1000x better made.
AND OF COURSE way better combat- actual blocking mechanics where if you put your sword in the way of their weapon you will block their attack!!! Imagine how sick that would be. Ability to grab on to enemies and tackle them or do shit. Fuck, this is the sort of game that will be available maybe in 10-15 years time xD.
In fact I could probably go on forever seeing as just fantasising about this epic game makes me feel happy!
But anyway my point was just to see if anyone shares my opinion that the Oblivion landscape was BEAUTIFUL and lush :D

I honestly hope they will take the Blizzard/Valve approach. Don't release the game until the game is done.
DA2 is an example of a quick cash in with an unreasonable deadline from the higher ups and that ended with a pretty bad/unfinished game.
First of all, this creation engine better not be a slightly modified version of Gamebryo engine. Gamebryo engine is the most outdated and unstable piece of crap there is.
With that said, Gamebryo does have a lot of unused potential that should be fully tapped in their new engine. Just couple days ago, I reinstalled Fallout 3 with a load of graphic mods. The result was breath taking.

There are thousands mods for Oblivion that can do 80% of your list. Modern modded Oblivion is not a game anymore where you + Show Spoiler +
walk in rather small world and close some gates.
It is just a game engine, and you can shape and mold it the way you like. Already played oblivion? No problem, don't do main quest line since quest mods add 10x more quests. The only thing you need is dedication and patience, since modding is a game itself. Also be sure to add some gfx mods on your modern PC for this . This will keep you busy waiting for Skyrim (and I think it looks better than Skyrim trailer).
Vanilla Morrowind was the best, vanilla Oblivion kinda choked, but when both modded Oblivion > Morrowind. Now I hope that Skyrim will combine both of them for pure awesomeness... and if not, modders will fix it
I'm going to wait for mods because of all the retarded level scaling and such. There's no reason that such a work of art should go to waste because of awful gameplay mechanics.

My shopping list is a wish list AFTER Oblivion has all the overhaul mods installed. Yeah. Put that in your pipe and smoke it buddy.

Mods can't make up for the generic world and rather clichéd good vs. evil storyline.
Not that it's a bad game, it's just not as good as its predecessor.

Actually overhauls don't do much of your list (stand-alone mods do), since almost all of them designed to change gameplay balance like weapon and armor stats, more spawns and spawn levels, more monster types, change spells, etc. And you can't install all of them (except FCOM) since they conflict with each other because generally they change the same things.

Well, they can and do that, I think you just used the wrong ones, or it was long time ago when many modern awesome mods didn't exist. Hell, there is even mod for Mario... The only thing mods can't change is PC/NPC models, no matter what textures you apply, or what armor you wear, they still look weird. Skyrim trailer showed they did a lot in addressing this issue. But using DX9 in 2011 will severely limit overall Skyrim graphics, I expect it to be only a bit better then modded Oblivion, and that really disappoints.
I am kind of skeptical about the whole Attribute removal thing. They say it is for the better because the previous system had flaws... and while I agree I think the flaws were more in the "increase three major skills by atleast ten each level or get raped by sewer rats" thing more than anything... but that might just be me.
Did he say that there are only three guilds? Or did he mean that they are the only returning guilds? Edit: He says it in like the last minute. Edit2: I completely missed that he said "three *main* factions".

I think you are one of the few. Oblivion's cliche medieval setting was a turn-off for a lot of fans who played Morrowind and the other predecessors to Oblivion.
