I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
I sunk around 40 hours into Oblivion without ever really touching the main story because I didn't find it that interesting. I however never really got into the game, the combat animations did not appeal to me at all. Every spell looked like some form of mist/dust and it felt as if my character haphasardly swung his sword to attack. Even when attacks connected there was never any real emotion behind it. Not to mention the close ups every time you talked to someone removed any form of immersion that I received from the game. I had this same problem with Fall out 3 as well.
Basically, I didn't/don't get the hype that surrounded Oblivion (loved Morrowind though). Skyrim scored lower for the most part than Oblivion did on critic reviews. I've been watching a lot of streams and the games combat seems to flow a lot more smoothly and even the way your character moves seems better. However, I don't know if this is due to the updated graphics.
Does Skyrim play better at all? Did any of you dislike Oblivion but enjoy Skyrim? Thanks

fixed, tabbed in and out like 5 times and it randomly works now
If anyone was wondering, you can tab back into the game and avoid it freezing if you alt tab in, hit windows key and then alt tab in again, works smoothly (normally just crashes game)

Um, is there a way that I've missed to have eqquiped both the 1h and the bow and just unseath one of em, instead of going through the inventory every time I wanna switch? Nine levels so far, archery+stealth=gg.

Set your bow + dagger to favorites via F in your inventory.
Press Q and mouse over the weapon and press 1...should label it 1. Long Bow or w/e you have.
Then press 1 for bow, 2 for knife, etc. etc.
Fastest way that I know of.

If you're going Thief/Assassin type character, go Argonian.
Oh god please go Argonian
You wont regret it.

played the game for a few hours.. I'm loving it so far. OMG am I loving it.
My argonian is so badass-looking.. and I just killed a giant spider using a skeleton I resurrected as a tank. So much fun. If this game had co-op, it would be the best thing ever. Well.. I'm finding the skill/equipment switching a bit cumbersome, but besides that. Great first impression.

As someone who adored Daggerfall and Morrowind, this game is seriously challenging my love for Morrowind only 15 hours in.

I'm deeply impressed by the framerates I'm getting, even on a relatively old machine. Combat is vastly improved, and it feels as if I'm stepping into an world where I can do anything and everything, forever. 2 hours in and I'm just having a blast.

Is there a metric to assess weight vs damage on?
For example: I have a 43 damage sword with 19 weight and a 48 damage mace with 27 weight. Which would give me more damage overall? Like is 1 weight like -1dmg? or is it 2? is there no metric? is it based on the weight of your armor or something? Does anyone know?

You buy spell tomes from the mage guy in second town, or you go the Magi School in the far north.

Same or better than oblivion? I think the menu is kinda worse but it's really the only downside I've found, you get used to it anyway

I've found that the menus aren't so bad once you learn the quirks (particularly hotkey labels not being changed when you remap keys).

Using TAB to exit everything took me about 5 minutes to learn i kept trying to use ESC
Also really well optimized. Able to play a constant 60 fps on my laptop on medium and I have heat issues as well so im very very happy with this game
