That's why you play a one of Cranial Archive and deck them. That was last season's control.

About playing Abzan, I wouldn't really worry about one deck specifically as an "auto lose" scenario. This format has a lot of play and really just requires having the right combination of cards and experience to get the job done.

Cranial Archive is pointless, the Delve cards are so powerful that you can play Cranial Archive and they'll still beat you with card quality, and yes that 1 of is costly for deck space.

Judicator, would you mind sending me your list? I'm looking to fill out 3 more cards for my UB list since I removed ashiok. As you stated she's only really good in the Control psuedo mirror and Abzan.

What delve cards are you playing? just Digs, Cuts, and Cruises?

This is my list right now, there 4+ flex spots in the sideboard depending on what I expect to see; pretty sure you can spot which ones...lollll. I haven't tested the numbers on my Delve cards too thoroughly, but again the important turn is 4.

Ride Down does the same thing Titan's Strength does, right?
is cute, kills a guy and triggers prowess

They are pretty different cards. There are a lot of situations where you want to just cast it on your guy and smash in for +3 and get a heroic/prowess trigger. Ride down is ok but Boros has Chained to the Rocks for hard removal and you can only have so many of your spells not go to face when your playing that color combination.

Thank you poster below me, definitely meant prowess in the original post but the point still stands.

Ulcerate seems so good right now with all the heroic decks. Being able to either untap a scry and kill their dude or play an untapped and kill their dude before they get to do any shenanigans feels real huge.

Have you tried Jorubai Murk Lurker in the Sideboard? Card has been house along side Sphinx for me, which makes me believe Pearl Lake would be just as good too.

I actually got off the Impersonater train. Your list make sense for what you're trying to do. It's not the same as other control lists either which is pretty cool.

I have seen it and it just honestly feels underwhelming to me. It's smaller than the Sphinx and the one match up I want to bring it in can kill it. Dunno, seems like a reasonable albeit underwhelming, but I suppose it is better than the Omenspeakers right now. Impersonator is basically there for no other reason than to copy a PW before I kill it.

Tom Ross: "Hmmmm......legacy......Fuck it, I'll just play infect"

Makes finals.

I'm new to pro magic, but this guy is just everywhere playing these crazy decks nobody else is (initially) playing and he just straight up wins.....

How is this guy so god damn good?
I await the reminiscent nerd chills I will get when I hear a Korean broadcaster yell "WEEAAAAVVVVVUUUHHH" while watching Dota

Infect is a strong deck, Tom Ross is one of the few players who can maximize it's potential though. His ability to understand how important certain cards are and how to navigate counter wars and removal is insane.

Exactly, don't get me wrong, I'm not denying he's is a great player. But to win tournaments you need to be both a great player and lucky.

That argument falls flat when you are looking across multiple large events which Tom Ross has performed well at now. We aren't talking about this single event, it's more than luck at this point. Thieving Magpie is just pointing out the inherent flaw in your statement.

Well he seems to always get the best lines and always plays very similar decks (small creatures and pump spells). He's very good at what he does even though he plays slightly higher variance decks than most people would consider "good".

You guys seem to forget that there is a random element in this game. Even if you always play the perfect lines, assuming your opponents aren't complete retards, you'll probably still only get a match win percentage of around 70%(which is extremely high afaik). Kai Budde for example is around 64% afaik. Given such a win percentage the chance of winning for example 4 matches in a row is already below 25%. So just because Tom Ross has been succesful in a lot of different events doesn't mean he hasn't been lucky throughout those events. Of course if you suck you will probably never be able to win a tournament, but no matter how good you are, you need some luck. Tom has had plenty of it.

There's no doubt that he's on a hot streak, but you can't write off all his success as a hot streak.

Nobody is saying that Tom Ross isn't a ridiculously good magic player. He certainly is, that much is clear. But even if he played every game perfectly for however many straight tournaments, it is pretty likely that Tom Ross is running above expected value.

Running well doesn't make you a bad player, and being an amazing player doesn't mean that you don't need to catch a few breaks to have a streak like Tom's. Basically, these things aren't mutually exclusive.

I think it's impressive that he can win with weenie aggro decks so consistently, so more power to him.
