Bg 1 is epic as hell too. thing is in BG1 you start on lvl 1. it is not a prerequisite to play bg2 though. but for 9.99 on steam atm, you will have a good 30-40 hours on this game before you beat it. and yes there are some differences from the original ( on bg 1 at least ) they added a couple of areas, a few npcs etc. the games also plays with the newer version of D and D rules ( I think )

As far as I see it there are three reasons you'd buy BG:EE/BG2:EE over the original. 1) You don't own and don't plan to buy BG2, but want to play BG1 (I don't understand why you'd do this since if you were only going to play one, BG2 is the better game) 2) You want to play multiplayer 3) You don't want to put in ~1 hour setting up basic mods/fixpacks for BG/BG2. For the most part, the experience of the Enhanced Editions is pretty much the same as the modded experience for the original games. While BG:EE looks a LOT better than the base BG game, using Tutu or Trilogy (mods that let you play BG in the BG2 cut of the Infinity Engine) plus a Widescreen mod significantly close the gap. Most of the basic gameplay enhancements/bugfixes are also available as free fixpacks from the community, and there are some bugs that the Enhanced Editions themselves introduce. The one thing the Enhanced Editions do really well is make multiplayer a lot easier to set up. If you have a friend you will be playing this with, then it's a good idea to play the Enhanced Editions as playing multiplayer on the older games can be an absolute nightmare. Enhanced Edition has built in Widescreen support, nicer graphics, a lot of bugs fixed, better character info windows, nicer looking UI, 4+1 new NPCs (BG1EE has 3+1) and additional content for those NPCs (they come with lot more voice over then original NPCs). It is also bundled with Throne of Bhaal and you get some more kits (subclasses) then original. I would also recommend BG1EE. You could also just play original game and install mods yourself to make it look nicer but that is not just click and install kind of process, so if you don't mind paying Enhanced Edition price buy that (BG1EE is on a sale on Steam right now) and get BG2EE in a future sale.

Where did you DL your mods from? Depending on where you get them and how extreme you go with your modding, I can see them being somewhat troublesome.

Well, since you never had any troubles with your mods, where did YOU get them from? (I only played the BG series unmodded some 10+ years ago).

http://weidu.org/main.html All you need for a BG2 run. The mods there are all stable. Never had problems with any of these. As a beginner the Fixpack and widescreen mod from gibberlings is basically enough to play through the game without missing out on anything. I actually have the enhanced edition but I still prefer the original game with basic mods like tweakpack/fixpack. The only reason to play Enhanced when you already have the original game would be the new NPCs but I didn't really enjoy them that much. Some other advanced mods can cause problems. I'd not recommend Big World Project to beginners (or anyone for that matter) for example. Not worth the trouble.

Basically as long as you're sticking to mods that preserve the core experience, and aren't too ambitious (basic mod/fixpacks, widescreen mod, Tutu or Trilogy if you're playing BG1), you're very unlikely to run into problems. Having played BGEE, I don't consider the enhanced content (extra zones/NPCs) to be worth the enhanced price tag. The best part about having the Enhanced Edition is that it's easier to play multiplayer.

Hehe, my first experience with BG mods is BWP and it took me 3 days (or 3 afternoons) to make it work finally and that is only with recommended mods. After that experience I didn't need much talking into to buy BG1EE ![]() BG2EE is currently overpriced in my opinion but BG1EE was worth it.
