Anyone know any good websites for up to date PvP info? I really want to learn about the State of the Game for Rift PvP. According to my friend it seems possible to reach lvl 50 just from doing BGs which is REALLY appealing to me. But of course it can be too good to be true. Can anyone shed some light on this>?

pvp is a blast in this game. heres a brief rundown of the classes (there hasnt been a patch since i stopped playing) mage: best single target burst with pyro spec. stormcaller is great aoe, and warlock/necro is good for solo or smaller engagements. rogue: melee is rather squishy, ranged has some nice tools. warrior: insane melee dps, still sort of squishy if dps specced. havent really seen any actual 'tanks' in pvp, everyone just goes dps. clerics: best survival in the game, healing is effective (maybe slightly too effective), melee spec is amazing dps, ranged dps spec is rather lackluster. as for leveling it is technically possible to hit 50 with only doing bg's, it starts to really slow down in the 30's. quests/grinding is fast. it took me like 3 weeks to hit 50. your pvp experience will be night and day if you join a good guild. part of the reason i stopped playing was my guild had a bg premade rotating members throughout the day. we would lose 1 or 2 games a day and just STOMP everyone else. got old after a while.

But how would you compare questing to BGs to level up? It'd be great to get a good estimate of how long it would take between the two methods. If it would only take a week longer to get to 50 just by BGing rather than questing then I'd be totally down to just PvP all day. But I could imagine that there's some problems with that (gear and gold right?)...

the quests in rift are for the most part laid out very logically and situated around the quest hubs. i mean quests are ez and fast xp. the trick to leveling fast is skip quests that are out of the way and aoe grind as you go around. you can que for bg's too while you quest to spice things up a bit. every class has an aoe spec that you can grind with minimal or no downtime. tell me what class youre playing and i can probably point you in the right direction (this game appealed to my ocd nature with all the different specs). most of the aoe specs really start to shine around 30. it is feasible to pvp to 30 and then start mixing it up. all that said you COULD pvp to 50. it is even not bad xp through the 40's, IF you are winning the bg's. if you lose it is a waste of time xp wise. 30-40 is the real grind in this game. 40-50 seemed to go by quicker. youre probably looking at an extra 3 weeks to pvp all the way to 50. rift is a great game, i just wish there was more endgame pvp content (like dark age of camelot RvR). if you want to make people rage, roll a mage. pyros have been nerfed some, but you can still dominate. my best bg in the current patch was 44 kills 2 deaths ![]() edit: oh i almost forgot about actual rifts in the game. they have regular ones and elite ones. the regular ones u can solo and they are good xp. the elite ones you need a group and they are good xp too. if i came across a regular rift while questing it is generally worth it to stop and clear it out.

I've specced pretty much everything into ranger, having played wow in the past, upping your pet and damage sounded good. The thing is, every fight with multiple mobs become a real micro hassle, because i can't really aoe or heal properly without my pet losing aggro(and i am using the pig btw). If you could point me in some aoe direction i'd appreciate it

except it isnt aimed at the casual audience. i would never recommened rift to someone that wasnt very familiar with mmo's. at least when i was running elite dungeons they were not ez. you need to think or you will simply not progress.

If you could point me in some aoe direction i'd appreciate it rogues are fun to aoe on. bladedancer/riftstalker is the go to spec. to minimize downtime take the talent in riftstalker that heals you if you kill a mob that has combo points on it. bladedancer is for aoe and is very good at it. this spec is from the rift boards but looks about right to me. i would put the 14 points in riftstalker, and then start working on BD. http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0MpVM.VG0hz.g0dVuoRRMdz the cool thing about aoe'ing in rift is that the higher level you gain, aoe'ing just gets faster and faster with decreasing downtime. by the mid-30's with that spec you should be ripping through packs of mobs in >10 seconds with no downtime. you need to find the right number to pull for your spec. on my mage i could take 4 at a time, and same on my cleric. 4 might be the sweet spot for soloing.

My guild does raiding and has cleared 11/13 raid bosses (we have a shit load of bad players in the raid too lol) the only reason we haven't full cleared is because we only raid like ~6 hours a week. the raids in this game is a joke too, and TBH i am probably gonna quit soon content is already going WoW direction first the nerfs with tier1/tier 2 dungeons and later probably raids (i know content needs to be nerfed to help the casual/bad players progress, but ill have to see the rate rift is doing them.)

class for warriors depends what you want to do. champ is good for pvp. i liked riftblade/paragon for the early lvls. aoe wise reaver/pally was the best last i checked.

Being a WoW player myself I was disturbed by how similar the mechanics were. Like I get the same exact feeling of leveling up a character in WoW as I do in Rift. Really freaky. Probably gonna play SC2 for tonight but jeez it's insane how similar the two games felt. Well it was my first time playing a WoW clone so I guess the shock is normal. The only thing that kept me playing was the fact that the game was really pretty. I did the first dungeon and towards the end of it we went to an awesome snowy area. The weather effects in Rift are really cool. Oh yeah, PvPers in Rift are really dumb =_= well at least the ones I ran into. Everyone thinks they're a god and they can run into a group of 5 people. Makes my life as a cleric pretty hectic lol.

It isn't a bad game, and i think the soul system in rift is awesome, but the pvp is so average and when I quit the classes weren't balanced well.

Unfortunately I burnt myself out really hard. So after around 3 weeks I canceled my subscription. Didn't even reach max level. Rift's a great game for it's genre. If you want a standard classical fantasy MMO just like WoW, then Rift is excellent. In my opinion, it doesn't get as much attention as it deserves still, because while it's still nothing original (Class system is amusing, and Rifts are great, but nothing mind-blowing) it's still the only solid MMO launch in years. Trying to re-subscribe as I said (They're having issues on payment server atm, patch day and etc I suppose) and I'm going to be playing much more casually. Hopefully it lasts this time. I miss the old days of WoW in the Burning Crusade. I don't think Rift is going to give me that, but perhaps it will kill the boredom of summer. =)
