Played for a couple hours on a fresh warrior it was rather fun! The dodging mechanic is interesting but I must say not intuitive right off the bat. Also didn't realize that 1 is literally auto attack and I ended up spamming it hahaha. Good time so far. Probably going to do the entire opening zone and try another class. Was interested in guardian I think since it sounds the most like paladin in terms of abilities.

The skills tree is semi intimidating, but I'm not accruing tons of points yet anyway.

On top of dodge, attacks have to actually land on you to damage you. This means that unlike in WoW, you can run around a mob and it can miss its swing even without you dodge rolling. Even more so in PvP.

Running a circle with a mob can often lead to the mob not doing anything to you if its attack animation has a long windup.

I don't think there's any difference in attack range between 1h and 2h weapons.

What do you mean with cold damage? Just ice attacks in general do not always slow you down, but often they do if they are mob abilities.

There is a condition called cripple that slows the ennemy by half its usual speed. I believe 2H and 1H melee weapons have similar auto-attacks range for each profession which is 130 unit except for the Guardian and Ranger Greatsword which have 150.

Ah okay. I am used to having cold damage cause slowing/chill effects in other games. I was definitely planning on going up to the great sword as that looks supremely badass. I read about class combo abilities like rangers shooting through walls of fire to add burning damage with their shots. Maybe there's some effects like that to learn about later when I get around to doing some dungeons. The wiki is pretty nice and kept up to date so there's always that!

Really great game so far, even at the low levels. My favorite part right now is that the world feels enormous. I can literally get lost in the stronghold haha.

My favorite part is the jumping puzzles and the vistas. Platforming isn't the easiest on a keyboard but the reward for the vistas is quite worth it.

Be sure to turn off double-tap to evade and get used to it. You'll be having many regrets when you accidentally dodge off a jumping puzzle just before you get to the end. If I wasn't so calm a person, I'd probably have gone through several monitors by now before turning that option off.

Their philosophy on gems (even before the game was released) has been to encourage people to buy them for their own personal sense of amusement or fulfillment. If they switch to a philosophy of putting game content behind a gem fee, shouldn't we be critical? Imagine if they made PvE dungeons which you could only access with an item bought from the gem store. Of course they have every right to do that, but should we just graciously and thankfully accept such a reversal of their policy?

Dismissive blanket justifications for negative actions taken by ANet do not make anything better but merely sidestep an issue to which we should give some thought (since, as the players, these kinds of things affect our enjoyment of the game in the short- and long-term).

I need to get back into this. I played non-stop for like a month and burned myself out. Got endgame gear, completed my shout set within a few weeks, became a WvW monster, then moved on. <_<

I wish I took it a little more slowly. I can see they added a great deal of new content so I have plenty to look forward to, it seems.

Yeah I will need to get back into this as well. Only stopped a few weeks ago, but am fully geared with what I want, inc skins, dyes, high fotm lvl and full ascended (to the extent that you can, so 45 AR), and nothing to do other than get The Lover to finish the Dreamer, but honestly couldn't be bothered farming with just the lover as a goal..

Seeing this thread makes me want to come back to GW2. I was majorly hyped for it when it was released, got to lvl 40 within a couple weeks and then just stopped playing because Dota 2 just became really big. Hmm.

Yeah, I don't know. Most of the time his opinion about things is very well-founded and he is a very nice guy of course (love his lore videos, LoG Lets Play was great, too) but here it seems he only defends it because he enjoys it. He even mentioned once that he would have liked a similar system in gw1 which made me really sad.

Well, you're right, there isn't a gap stat-wise, but there is a gap "idea"-wise, or commitment-wise. The problem is that ppl got exotics really fast, like one month in and then they looked to legendaries. However, legendaries are really hard to get, you need months (plural) of farming and grinding. This is the gap he was mentioning.

P.S. I am not arguing pro or against ascended, just explaining what wooden potatoes meant.

Did some quick research on current thoughts on GW2, found nothing but negativity. Then again, that's the nature of the internet. Oh well.

I left pretty fast. The combat was so dull and boring, it didn't have any impact or anywhere near as much creativity as in GW1. I loved the exploring part, but way too much grinding to actually get to doing that.

Doing secret cave dungeons was fun, getting to the fun wasn't.

Yeah first rule of the internet ignore the internet :D, people find a way to hate everything. Even here people would hate on starcraft 2, even on Brood war (shocking..I know). GW2 like every MMO is about finding a good guild and cool people to play with. If you do you'll have a blast! otherwise you'll probably get bored pretty quickly. I've been playing for the past 5-6 months and have no intention or reason to stop playing. The game have tons of content underneath it and most of the people that say there isn't any late game probably haven't even reached the "mid" game.
