Did some quick research on current thoughts on GW2, found nothing but negativity. Then again, that's the nature of the internet. Oh well.

You bought the game, play and see for yourself. I didn't play for 4 months because I felt quite bored by it. But I came back 2 weeks ago and I'm having a blast. Perhaps I'll get bored again but eh, no monthly fees.

I might have to pick it up again. I know it's a PvP centric game, but I would really kill for some classical MMO PvE progression. It's really the only thing stopping me from becoming a hardcore player.

The PvP is absolutely stellar, but the downside is that they released without full implementation and there is still a lot of improvement to be made. Unfortunately this caused a big interest of PvP at launch but now it has died out quite a bit because of the lack of implementation and even though they are now working on it and releasing what should have been at launch it is slow going.

Without a significant investment from ArenaNet in some kind of tournament scene [similar to valve and Dota2] there will probably be no competitive GW2 scene.

GW2 basically became the ultimate casual game, no hardcore end-game content, although theres plenty to do and they ended up killing off PvP with little to no care about it after claiming ESPORTS.

Great for casual play, bad for hardcore

I really have a love/hate relationship with this game.
The PvP is really fun, even if some aspect of it are completely bullshit, and I hate how much the devs did promise and how little was done.
But I keep going back to it, even if all my friends stopped playing.

Well, I play on EU, and even on the French server this time. ( which is a rarity for me. I was on Stormscale for WoW )

Unless things have improved a lot (and by that I mean basically a complete overhaul of everything) on the PvP front since I last played about 3-4 months ago which is quite possible, this game is less of a PvP MMO than WoW is.

It is however a good exploration game, the environments are very well done.

Personally, I felt WvWvW was an absolute blast. Had tons of fun despite being in a Tier 4 server (shoutout to Crystal Desert!). I'm not a fan of PvP type content (didn't enjoy it in WoW, maybe I was just bad), but GW2 WvWvW definitely made a lasting impression.

Unfortunately, PvE was a real bore and I didn't feel like there was any progression. Just grinding out tokens and other stuff daily was too much of a pain.

"Ascended gear was created to bridge the gap between exotic gear and legendary gear. People didn't listen to Anet blah blah blah I feel jaded people are stupid."

There was no gap between exotic and legendary gear, they were 100% identical stat wise. Stopped watching after that.

Well, you're right, there isn't a gap stat-wise, but there is a gap "idea"-wise, or commitment-wise. The problem is that ppl got exotics really fast, like one month in and then they looked to legendaries. However, legendaries are really hard to get, you need months (plural) of farming and grinding. This is the gap he was mentioning.

P.S. I am not arguing pro or against ascended, just explaining what wooden potatoes meant.

No there wasn't even a gap commitment-wise because there were lots of unique exotics in the game with different amounts of effort needed to get them. They just smoothly filled that gap completly. People just didn't realised they existed before crying.

I played for a month ago and quit. It feels like there just isn't much to do or work towards. There are no super hard PVE encounters that give grandiose rewards, no end game content, the pvp is extremely lackluster (the skills feel so awkward sometimes, like you can't just cancel by moving (like you can in WoW). i.e. warrior GS 2 in pvp will just lock you in place awkwardly and you have to wait for the channeling to move again.

It just felt like I was randomly going around farming and killing stuff for no real gain. It's a super casual game with a lot of mirrored content that really doesn't change much as you get higher and higher level. After level 10 it feels like the same game with nothing new (I have had 2 80s for several months but have no drive to level up another character, personal story isn't motivation since it turns to ass after level 30ish).

It's a good game it just has no longevity. WvW would be fantastic if I could get a super OP character that could 3-4 shot people from afar like I could in WoW with my mage in alterac valley. That kind of gameplay doesn't exist and it feels too slow paced in PvP. Stuff is too tanky IMO.

Hey guys, I dunno if you guys know but Arena Net is starting to take baby steps into eSports. The last couple of patches have brought in lots of great new features like a spectator mode (FINALLY), custom arenas for tournaments, PvP balance and lots more great features have been announced to be in the pipeline. They've also brought on about 15 Shoutcasters, including myself, to start bringing production value and knowledge to the scene as well. The GW2esports community is slowly growing and it needs your help. Currently there's r/gw2esports and its ingame guild which is composed of teams, LFG'ers and casters like myself. If you're interested you can find me ingame at Sireph.2581

I just got to say, I hated this game big time like 6 or 7 months ago when I quit.

After half a year and after all my hype and unrealistic expectations have disappeared, I redownloaded the game. I've been playing it a lot recently and man, now that all the above is out of my mind and I know what I'm getting -- this game is far more enjoyable. It's just a casual MMO to play around in, and when I accept that I can't help but love this game. A lot of new content and new content every two weeks and it's still a pretty sizable population on my server and plenty of servers as well.

It's not the greatest game, it's not the "savior" of MMO's like I and many others thought it would be but it's still worth a play if you quit it a while back like I did. It has a lot of fun to be had if you don't have any illusions going into it for what it is. It's a pretty semi-casual PvP based MMO with lots of minor content updates.

It's about 16GB. Lots of patch content.

Apparently they're adding a lot of shit too.

Most things they add are temporary right now. If you start the game it's mainly the same game as it was since release (excluding southsun and fractals). The "content" they add are some temporary dungeons/minigames and huge checklists of achievements. Still playing WvW only with my guild and spend the rest of my time playing games that have good content like gw1.
Sounds harsh but the game is released for one year and they now trying to replace Addons with their living world updates that brought us neither longterm content nor a living world nor story but achievement lists and cash shop items. I hate to say it but if they continue to roll this way this game will go the same way as many other mmo's in the last years. I wonder how long it will take for the majority of players to realise how much fake content they are getting instead of real content.

I'm still playing it quite regularly for some sPvP battleground fun.
It's reminding me of my times in WoW Warsong / Arathi. And since you don't ever need to grind levels / gear, nor pay a subscription fee, you can just pop in at any time.

That's probably the only thing I like about the game tho.
PvE seems cheap and the new content is trying to look bigger than it is.

I need to level up my PvP character so I can do some solo WvW roaming too. That could be fun.

I guess I'm having fake fun from this fake content that I'm not actually playing

This just seems like a different game all together from GW1. When I was on top of GW1, I really felt like I was on the top, and the world knew it, their guild ranking system and HoH announcements every-time someone won it. Felt like we had really done something epic, here in GW2, I don't feel like there is anything in play (right now) that can even compare to the fun and epicness of GW1.

Maybe that's because I played in a very competitive level, GW2 seems a lot more noob friendly though, there's no hunting elites and capturing their elite skills (which is probably one of the best concepts i have ever seen)
