Isn't it hard to get an overview and multitask? | ||

I played KR retail upon its release for one month with some friends and got to level ~40, doing dungeons, a little bit of PvP, solo-questing, and group-questing. Not knowing any Korean at all was a a large hurdle, but there were some machine-translation UI patches that helped. I spent two hours tonight on the NA beta. The translation seems pretty clean; no glaring grammatical/spelling errors. The voice-acting is average for the most part, but they don't exactly have Bioware/EA's budget, and TERA in particular is an MMORPG that I wouldn't play for the story because it relies on fairly typical Korean high-fantasy tropes. The leveling curve seems the same from levels 1-10, which means it goes by quickly and painlessly. A few very vocal people, whether they were trolling or genuine, complained in general chat channels about being unable to wrap their heads around the control scheme. Someone droned on for a while about being forced to "keyboard-turn", which is definitely not the case (anyone who relies solely on the keyboard to both move and aim the character's PoV is severely handicapping him/herself, far moreso than if s/he were to use a console gamepad). All in all, barring complete financial collapse of Bluehole, I was already willing to buy the game. Now, seeing that En Masse is applying a delicate touch to the product in bringing it over, I'm a little more optimistic about its longevity. | ||
