it's pretty clear that in this game, 2h warrior > rogue > mage. perhaps a mage with the perfect spec would be very good, but on nightmare it's hard to imagine.

I'm curious to see what other TLers did for their game sochoices (I am going to spoiler tag so don't click unless you want spoilers): + Show Spoiler + - Spammed the Troll/Sarcastic dialogue about 90% of the time. - Had Carver stay at home, which made him go Templar - Romanced Isabella, which I guess made her give back the relic. - Allowed companions to do mostly what they wanted (Although I told Verric no no to the shard, and I didn't bother with Merril or Anders' final quests since they were some of the most unappealing characters in the game.) - Sided with the mages. - Knifed Anders in the back.

For my party, I ended up using a combination of Avaline, Fenris, Verric, and Isabella depending on what I felt would be best (although Avaline usually ended in my party since I like to have someone to take most of the hits, and Verric is the only character with any real interesting personality). The story was alright, but I'm really feeling Bioware's writers are (and have been) losing their magic for a while now. The part with Verric as the (unreliable) narrator was cute, and now I really see how much effort and time was placed on making the players at least like Verric (check any forums about this game, almost everyone loves him). I've done two play throughs, one with the mages and one with the templars, both on hard difficulty. I have to agree that Anders probably is the most annoying guy in the game. He just reeks of a guy sitting in a smelly sofa watching Family Guy in his dirty bath robe. However he's the only healer, as you lose your sis regardless of your actions, so you gotta have him stick around unless you play a mage yourself. I went rogue and warrior, and I have to say that rogue was probably the funniest character to play, and also alot harder, as their damage output (atleast the way I played), is totally single target, so you gotta bounce around and stab stuff. Rogues simply have funnier mechanics, and you don't have to spam stamina potions during boss fights like warriors do. The mage attack speed spell really beefs them up a lot as well. I liked that Bioware atleast kept the feeling of that there's no completely evil or good side, as both the mages and the templars have an agenda that makes sence. They actually reminded alot of the Terran and Protoss in Starcraft.. the mages are the terrans, trying to salvage what life there is left after a zerg attack on a colony, while the protoss just annihilate the entire planet.

Shit, they're hardly in a position to say reviews on metacritic aren't legit. Edit: Oh and they made Dragon Age 2.

But I still think their improved combat system is at least worth enough for the time you spend in a playthrough.

But I still think their improved combat system is at least worth enough for the time you spend in a playthrough. I dunno about that. The story was OK imo. It was kinda too tightly bond to one city, but other than that I liked it. The combat system though is a complete joke, as healers have a higher threat generation than tanks do. The fact that they reused the same terrain, and just blocked a path with a grey block of concrete but kept the map the same kinda turned me off after a while though. I feel like they didn't put any time in the game at all compared to their other series that had alot of unique terrain, even for smaller events.. I mean they could atleast just edit out the part missing from a dungeon to make it look somewhat fresh, but nope.. just put up a concrete block in the doorway. The equipment guide is an interesting idea, but after a while it gets fishy, when items with the same stats have all from 1 to 4 stars on the same character. Overall I feel like the game is incomplete. I feel like if bioware was not a part of EA they could've done a much better job. EA is basically the satan in game developement as far as I'm concerned. Quality over quantity please.

I play these types of games because it's a nice escape from my ordinary day-to-day, and because living in a city can be boring sometimes. So when I play Dragon Age I don't want to run around Kirkwall for the entire game.

They "insult" their fanbase. /eye-roll And yeah, half the reviews on meta-critic are chanfags. I seriously lol all over this stupid story, as if its really a surprise bioware employees like the games they make. The trolls are really reaching to try to find fault with this one.

Quality over quantity please. I agree with the annoying reuse of the Terrain. Other games sometimes reuse single rooms or sometimes the generic house you can go in, but in DA2 they reused whole areas and just switched around the doors. It looks a lot like lazyness to me and gives a "we save money for more profits and don't care that it makes the game worse" feel... after the third 100% equal area i was close to just stopping to play the game. Also the game seems to get boring after a while, the side quests are _horrible_. There are some interesting boss fights - for example in the deep roads against the stone thing at the end (don't know the english name) - but other than that it's just walking through the same areas and fighting against the same enemies again and again to get items for someone. DA2 is a real disappointment. The grand story arc is ok, but everything else is just horrible... Also: "3 years passed..." - and i still have the same experience? the same gold? the same items?

The story was so/so at best and there really seemed to be no difference either way you chose. Also Varric and Isabel were the only 2 characters that were any good non-game play wise. I thought Isabel was the worst companion (non-gameplay wise), she seemed interesting in the demo and trailers etc. What I got was a female jack sparrow thought up by a 14 year old. The rest of the characters I really liked but the game didn't showcase them that well, there weren't all the conversation options like there used to be. Apart from Isabella I found them all good, really believable. + Anders could be a little annoying but was interesting and believable + Aveline perhaps not the most interesting, but a well thought out, solid character + Carver (haven't played with Beth yet) was a really good rivalry, though I dislike they felt they had to bring up that he felt he was in the Champions shadow every conversation. Good premise, bad writing. + Fenris was really interesting, I never used him in my party really and wish I had for some extra dialogue. For this one I especially wish there were more conversation options. + Isabela was a pretty shallow character in my opinion. + Merrill was really well written, really brilliant. + Varric was impressive.

I did really enjoy the first DA:O game, but I've been hearing such mixed things about DA2 that I'm kind of afraid to buy it. I'm a huge Mass Effect fan, but Dragon Age never quite grabbed me in the same way. Thoughts overall on whether this game's worth getting?

Maybe an ultimate edition in the future with all DLCs together with a discount but the released edition, absolutely not worth the money IMHO.
