Oh well, my luck was bound to run out at some point, I guess I can take solace in 2nd place.

I think this is one of the rare situations where the blame actually belongs on the QB. There's a lot of talent, and inconsistent QB play really murdered this team for much of the year. They were in most of the games they lost this season. Maybe they felt that Singletary was incapable of getting the best out of his players. I think you nailed it. Who knows how much a real NFL qb could have helped them as a run the ball/stop the run kind of team and coach

The Niners need to disband as an organization if they think there is still something to be had out of Alex Smith.

I really think it would be a different situation with an average starter at QB instead of the cluster fuck we have now. Still not particularly good or anything, because the oline is OK at best and the offensive play calling is nothing short of terrible, but enough to win the division. The QB play and terrible play calling absolutely killed this team. Norv Turner was the only good coordinator this decade

I think this firing goes beyond Singletary's performance as a coach though, he only had two years, and their record is still reasonably accounted for by some bad luck at bad times. It's not like they were supposed to win more than 9 games anyway. To fire a guy on the road with one game left makes me think its either a bad attempt at scapegoating, which makes little sense as Smith is the only other guy with low job security who will be blamed by the fans and he sucks, or it's the result of a irreconcilable differences between coach and management. Either way I kind of want to see Singletary get another chance somewhere else just to see what he's capable of.

it's so hard to see aaron rodgers rape so hard when he could have been in the red n gold uniform. As depressing as the niners are this year at least true SF fans can fallback on the Giants win in the world series :D

Say what you want though the Jets are 2-4 vs teams with winning records. To put things comparatively the Eagles are 5-2, the Chiefs are 2-2, the Ravens are 4-3, Steelers are 3-4, the Jags are 1-5 and the Colts are 2-5. Your Bears are 3-2 if that means anything to you and they are gaining some good momentum, I just don't have enough faith in Culter yet to declare the Bears a really strong competitor in the NFC.

The Bears beat the Eagles. After Cutler got hurt the Bears lost the next 2 games until he was fully healthy. After the bye week they have won every single game except the Pats game. Winning 7 of your last 8, capturing the division and going 11-4 so far isn't good enough to be a strong competitor?

But I have Maclin vs. McCoy AND Vick, DeSean Jackson and Eagles D. Granted I have 50 points cushion at the moment, but considering Vick is pretty much a reliable 20, McCoy 10, Eagles D 10, it will come down to Maclin vs Jackson. Who will get the feast and who will get the famine...But in Maclin we trust! =]

In the Finals with Desean Jackson against Michael Vick with the opponent having a 8 point lead. Only feasible way to win is basically if Vick gets injured and then Kolb takes over to throw to Jackson...
