just started playing this, wasn't sure what I was doing. Mined out a huge area into the stone. Didn't actually find anything so went exploring then I started finding my way in to caves.

Trouble is, I keep going mad and exploring that I never end up back at my outposts, but I don't mind.

That's exactly how I started playing. I didn't know there were natural cave formations so I just starting digging whereever. I made a gigantic hole + passage and found nothing until it finally broke through into a cave somewhere. Now, I just look around the landscape for caves and more specific features of the terrain.

When I find a big cave or new area to explore, I usually build an outpost at the entrance. I keep chests+workbench there to store minerals that I mine/stuff that I find. Also, if I die, I walk back to the outpost and re-equip from my stash so I continue mining right away.

Yeah I just hit this huuuuge underground cave that kept breaking into new levels. A shit load of iron and I cleared out most of it, set myself up a little work shop and as I was making my iron pants...heard some footsteps

What are some of your multiplayer experiences? Is the game the same exact more players?

I've seen this played at my college's LAN, and it was pretty epic. You probably need voice chat to make it as easy as they made it look, but you know all those projects you thought would be awesome but didn't do because of time constraints? You can whip it out in 15 minutes.

It's great when you have a group of people mine out the inside of a mountain and then make a city with the blocks they got, and it only takes an hour or two.

When will the TL.net server be up?!!? I tried to go play on a different server with my friends. We spent all day and night building a 5 story house and it got burnt down by a griefer.

Multiplayer for alpha is in a really early stage. Half of the stuff doesn't work or is bugged, including, but not limited to, minecarts, redstone, fences, doors, stairs. There are no enemies and you cannot lose health.

Really reminds me of the old days of Tribes (2 ?) with the custom build maps, everything up in air and on acid.

Yeah man, just found my first crystal too, had everything else nearby too

I just died again. Two skeletons waiting for me, so I craft some sexy armour and run down to fight them.
Manage to strike them both down whilst munching pig but then A CREEPER

New secret single player things. In spoilers for anyone who is still at the "I must find out how to craft everything without knowing what is possible" stage.

Compass is now a craftable item. Rather than using cardinal directions, it always points towards your spawn point. Very useful if you (like most) make your home somewhere close by that.
You can insert buckets of lava into furnaces as fuel. It consumes both the bucket and the lava, smelting what seems to be about 100 blocks worth of material.
Unconfirmed, but mushrooms seem to be more abundant.

WOW, nice SMP update. Still, I'm holding out on bring the server back up until there are actual monsters. This is great news though, I'm expecting monsters by next week.

Can't wait for some epic PvE action with you guys ^_^
