Just annoying that when a zombie sees you, you're almost certainly dead unless you're near a door that goes to a loading screen and to another section of the castle.

You know, I was thinking about Amensia vs Doom 3. I had the feeling that I was way more scared playing Doom3 (to the point of shaking and having to quit every 15 minutes of playing) whereas playing Amensia is a different kind of scared. You get very paranoid in Amensia while in Doom 3 you get so much action thrown at you that your adrenalin is just through the roof.
I think that push makes us feel that Doom 3 is scarier, but I believe Amensia is actually the scarier game.
Hope that made some sort of sense.. lol

... Doom 3 was scary? It was completely the other way around for me; Doom is a merry romp through some space stations shooting baddies with lazer guns. I found Doom 3 to be predictable and the game simply relied on things jumping out at you to give you a fright as it's "fear". I got a big fright when my (otherwise adorable) cat attacked my feet at 2am last night - I absolutely shit my pants. That doesn't mean my cat is "the ultimate horror experience" - I just got a fright. That's what Doom 3 is.

Amnesia, on the other hand, I don't think once had something burst out in your face to give you a fright. It's always the constant threat of danger, the growing paranoia, the gradual building of an unrelentingly oppressive atmosphere. Every single person I've seen play Amnesia always closes doors behind them. Why do you think people do this? It's not actually useful - if a monster comes it would actually be better to have left the door OPEN, dodge past him as he enters the room, and slam the door in his face to give you time to escape.

The reason is because they are shitting their pants. The fear of death and threat of danger is often so overwhelming that many people are desperate for any glimmer of safety they can find, even if that is just lighting a few tiny candles so it isn't so dark and closing a filmsy door so they are feel safe.

I was severely disappointed with amnesia when I beat it...

It was scary at first, because I didnt know anything about it, then it was making me paranoid when I knew what was there
Then I was anticipating scarier things which made me a little scared

then I realized that there was nothing new and it sortof died for me, I still went on to beat it, but the ending was pretty sad, as in bad

Just found out today that Frictional Gaming is going to be releasing a new Amnesia game in an amount of time.

http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/

If you click on the link it takes you to China in Google Earth so maybe the next game will take place there? I'm really pumped to see what it is as I loved (and was terrified) of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

That would be so awesome! You know what that means right? That we will be entertained by Day9's high pitched squeals once again!

I have a question? Is this game purely scary in terms of atmosphere, or does it have the disgusting bits like from Dead SPace as well-dismembered body parts and mutilated bodies?

B/c I love scary but not disgusting games.

It is primarily atmosphere. There are is a bit of gore here and there as part of the scenery. But that's mostly near the end of the game. There are some parts where you have to collect some bits from a corpse in a lab. It's a very small part of the game though.

The engine isn't powerful enough to really 'disgust' you, but there is some dismemberment, torture and other things going around. A lot of it is in sound and story though and it really captures your imagination. At least in my case.

But big news!

The new Amnesia is officially announced and they decided to give us a few more months to gather all our courage we had left after playing the first game.

Amnesia and Dear Esther? Best of both worlds I say.

Amnesia scares you by making you scare yourself.

Take that as you wish.

So I've watched so many vids on this game(including all of the playthrough Day9 did of it) and thought I would remember everything about it.

Well I did, up until the dungeons... Easily the worst part of this game. So many turns and stairs and then theres only about 20 monsters in each part.

Still, I think this part is one of the scariest (I'm pretty sure you are talking about the Prison level, which is essentially a pitch black labyrinth); it is also where the game takes the "training wheels" off, and throws you into some not only scary, but difficult situations. To me these parts of the game felt more real, and truly amplified the experience for me.

Yes, I was referring to the prison part. Dungeon/Prison same thing in my mind haha.

Yeah, I feel this part is a lot of fun, yet equally terrifying. So many monsters, but I was playing pretty careful, so haven't let any of them get close to me yet. Stuck somewhere near the storage room and the kitchen, been wandering around for like an hour, chewing through my oil. =\

Yup, in fact I just replayed through Overture and Black Plague this last week or two. They are both beautifully styled to suit their story and atmosphere. Overture was a little disjointed, but Black Plague had a thrilling continuity. The sense of seclusion is even greater in this series than Amnesia, partly because there are no flashbacks. All you have are letters, which aren't diary notes but snippets of information about what happened - similar to the dialogue which occurred in Doom 3 (and made that game all the better too).

A question about the content of this game: Is there any way to disable the nudity present in this game via the options menu?

I don't want to play a game with it present unless there is a way to disable it.

You see a dick like once at the end of the game.

Is it that big a deal?
