I didn't really care about those so much because I (and my cousins) found out that (and how) you can increase stats past level 100. So we were mostly looking for pokemon who could learn great combinations of attacks and weren't total crap statwise.
Luckily our interest in pokemon was fading during that time or else we might have wasted another several hundred ours on mindless grinding.
The trick is to simply beat endless amounts of pokemon, and then either after going to a pokemon center or after depositing and withdrawing the pokemon in/from a PC the stats were magically increased (not sure which one it was). The same trick works if you want say a lvl50 pokemon with insane stats: catch it at the lowest level possible and level it by beating lvl2/3 pokemons exclusively.
For lvl100 you need 1,000,000 exp, and low level pokemon give like 25exp... Oh and you could share exp to press that number even lower...

We had a lvl35 or so Alakazam that easily beat a normal lvl50 Alakazam with the same skills...
