I like new tilesets, balancing rift guardians, adding more variety, and density changes. Act 1 town overhaul? yes please. ancient items + something super rare like tnt (and I assume you can't gamble for ancient items? idk how that's gonna work) will be tricky and just make the gear disparity from RNG really high, especially if someone gets lucky at the start of a new season. The new legendary gems might not be used all that much, but hey why not. More sets could be a good thing, but if they are anything like Roland's they will just be another blackthorne's fake out "oh you thought those were marauders or firebirds didn't you?" green drops.
So all in all I hope we get some more information. This stuff is nice and shows they are still working on it but we need more for it being blizzcon.

As a non-competitive player, I don't mind the RNG aspect of the ancient items. Just introduces a bit of extra excitement and reason to play. After patch, even after having player a few hundred paragon levels, I can still hope for drops that will be a dramatic improvement. As it is now you pretty quickly reach a point where you have the items you want, and it is only a matter of finding better rolls. ancient items is a (minor) improvement of that stage of the game for me as non-competitive player.
I can see how it will increase the luck-factor into the top of the ladder, but tbh, isn't it already very much luck-based who happens to arrive at a GR lvl 43 with just the right mobs and guardian? If you want a ladder determined by skill, go play starcraft.

Yeah I get that for the average player (myself included in that) it should be a good (fun) grind, but imagine being the first guy on a new season to get an ancient furnace? GG. Also unless they make it possible to gamble for ancient items there won't be any way to farm for any specific endgame item at all besides complete reliance on rng drops.

Ancient items are REALLY stupid. The concept in itself is rather dull, apparently the dev team has to make "bigger numbers" every few months. Now I can live with mainstats going from 500 to 650, it's boring but not gamebreaking... but comeon, you can't let this affect the single most important affix in the game, weapon dps.
I mean:

This is really really really stupid. One of the best things in RoS was that weapons had a relatively little variance in their dps, now we're back to square one. The leaderboards will be dominated by people blessed by RNG on RNG on RNG (as in, an "ancient" Furnace).

I thought they were starting to do well with legendary effects that completely changed/introduced new builds for almost every class, why not keep having good ideas instead of just pushing bigger numbers... Obviously some classes or sets were lacking, or a set was TOO mandatory (Akkhan's Crusader a good example), but classes like WDs are in a really good place right now imo. Various sets that contribute to drastically different playstyles depending on player preference, but still allow for great progression.
We'll see how it goes, but it feels slightly lazy. I kind of like the idea of some items you can't just gamble for, but that doesn't mean they need to be SOOOOOOOOOO much better.

assuming that ancient items won't be available until season 2 at the soonist

i like most of the changes, even though they dont seem to be a big step forward either. but leaving conduits in Grifts and ancient items - those two ideas are just bullshit. i actually think that the new gems are interesting.
conduit in grift just means that, after a certain point, new records can only be achieved if you find a conduit for the grift boss... which turns grifting into a stupid and less skill-based grind than w/o conduits.
ancient items are just so uncreative. cant they come up with something better than bigger numbers? particularly the weapon's damage-affix range-increase between ancient and ordinary legs seems to be excessive. in the end, ancient items will make the game and season play much more luck dependent and for players with really end game gear, they will kill off the joy of finding the "right" legs like furnace most of the time - i already got an ancient furnace with bad rolls... oh hey, a furnace dropped.... nah, not ancient, gonna salvage. for those who already have most of their crucial gearslots equipped with ancient items, it will just add another rng wall and narrow down the frequency of finding potential upgrades even further...

LOL for non ladder player it's basically "You are suckers for playing so long, now start over again"
|
So you cant gamble for ancient legenderies?

I can't believe the idea for ancient items even exist. It's the most boring, unimaginative change they could make. Nobody ever cares about main stat on items, or that they will now have 30% more dex/str/etc., we care about items that offer unique properties that allow you to shape a character around. Now it will just be hilarious if you find one of the great unique items around and then have to say to yourself 'i hope it's the super mega ultra version of the same item!' It's just fucking boring.
I'm hoping they announce some actual seasonal content for s2 or I can't imagine playing much longer. Two or Three unique items isn't enough to warrant seasonal play, they need to add unique engaging content each season ala PoE. Starting Fresh, isn't content, it can be done in standard with any sort of willpower.
Ugh, I want D3 to be so good but I'm constantly disappointed.

could it introduce more build variance in the game?
We'd have to build depending on what drops for us. There would have to be no max roll on these items i think (items for lesser builds rolling very high).
I still agree with you, just playing the devils advocate. (i had to remove the image to post, sorry)

this is so stupid, first they make these endlessly scaling difficulties (in a stupid way btw), and now they make the items scale in the same way.
before you had a what, 0.05% chance to find the rare unique weapons and now you can mutiply that by another 1% or whatever they will make it. Who wants to play that?
They could have just made like 10 unique weapons and rework 1 set bonus for each class and would be done for 1-2 more seasons.

The D3 devs have awful ideas considering they are paid to go to work 9-5 and think everything through. I don't see how Grifts even got through play testing, they must have a lot of patience to actually like doing them + the rift trials.
Ancient items aren't going to break the game but they aren't going to add anything much either. They already have a shit load of uniques in the game, they just need to tweak them all to be interesting/viable.
It has poor interaction with their latest and great update of Grifts as well, since to compete on the leader board you're going to need an ancient furnace now. I don't care but how can they not think about that?
I don't play PoE but it seems like they pretty much figured out the ARPG genre and tend to come out with pretty well thought out ideas. Blizzard seem to do their best to avoid copying PoE, which tends to mean they only do updates that aren't that great of an idea, which is why PoE hasn't implemented them already.

I like the new set ideas especially the Slow time wizard set. It looks awesome. About the ancient items... Extremely lazy. +X stat is just not enough anymore. I'd rather see these items with one or two extra properties. Some of them maybe exclusive for this item group (for example Hellfire amulet). Adding 35% more dmg on one item is just dumb. I think that they went in the right direction with the set and legendary bonuses, but now all of a sudden they made a step backwards. I hope that they will fix this.

So I just hit lvl 70, what should I do now? What's the best way to build up for T6 if I'm someone who only plays solo?
