So far Im doing this Phalanx - Stampede build, I kinda like it a lot since you get to shoot horses out. But I find it frustrating how its ineffective vs wallers etc, makes it really annoying. Another build I experimented with was Fist of Heaven - No Rune. This one feels better for wiping out trash mobs, but other than that its very boring to use. So far I have 2 piece Roland and 2 piece Akkhan. Idk which one is better? Im guessing Roland since its set bonus seems ludicrous OP. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Emnjay808-1832/hero/54451844
Akkhan's is the end game one because you can make it so you have perma-Akarat's up which also gives you access to the Prophet which is a massive survivability boost end game.
Roland's does have some builds that can handle T6, but doesn't do anything for your survivability (well I guess Sweeping Strike - Trip Attack spam for CC, but that's not as reliable).

roland can do up to grift 37 softcore
shotgun is the most fun crusader build imo

I'm excited for Season 2 so that Frydehr's Wrath becomes available for non-seasonals

Woah, what happened?
Also, how do I ween myself off of always using the Templar in HC - I just don't feel safe without the heals.

i just died on a similar WD (~70h played) on a 25 grift as Pet Doctor.
Got charged by a bunch of annoying ghost reapers which proced the passive and then feared in 12 arcane lasers.
Oh well, I have a full jade stuff, in my bag to start over.
Still sucks though.

Any hardcore 'shotgun' crusader here who can do 25+? Getting a bit bored with my current DH.

I had previously been charged and it procced spirit vessel but as you can see the boss is low, ~ 1 harvest away from dying so I didn't want to waste time by playing it safe and going to town for the passive to reset (even though if I wanted, I had plenty of time left in the grift if you see the timer). Not waiting for the passive wasn't my biggest mistake though, the biggest retard, bonehead thing I did was I basically just ran in to harvest and was charged again. I didn't even run in with spirit walk to harvest which is generally the safe, free way to always get your harvests off. I still can't believe I died like this lol, super embarrassing fail.
tl;dr I was tired and got lazy/stupid and paid for it.
That character was really starting to own too, that GR26 was a joke and I was looking forward to pushing myself further. I have a full pet build backup and 3/5 jade backups (no 2nd quezt though) so I'll probably reroll soon(tm).

isnt this the beauty of hc? the pure fact that you will eventually get punished for lazy or stupid gameplay makes hc a much more intense and legit-feeling experience. it also means that most genuinely bad players who try out hc will quickly go back to sc.

After the initial shock of 'holy shit did I really just do that' wore off, I told my wife that the emotional response I got from dying and losing that character after only 70 hours, was more significant than anything that could have happened in 500 hours of playing SC.
HC has its issues especially when deaths are PC/Server related and not user error but the engagement and 'thrill' of succeeding or failing are just on another level in HC. I really try and get all my SC friends to try it at least once. Many times one HC character is all it takes for my SC friends to get hooked. The only time I've had friends not like it is if they died early on so they never got to really become attached to their characters growth or if they died to desync (PoE) or PC/LAG in D3.
edit: i hope that didn't sound like I'm bashing SC. SC is a lot of fun and I have SC characters in D3 that I definitely enjoy. I hope blizzard adds more unique season features because I'd love to try a SC season and really push myself on the Grift ladder. Most of my time in D3 has been on SC, while ALL of my time in PoE has been HC, quite strange but I only recently got into D3HC despite playing HC exclusively in other ARPG.

As someone totally naive to how it works though, can you elaborate on what you can/can't do with the character after it dies? Obviously you can't "play" it, but you mentioned gear backups and such, so I assume if those were just in your stash it's available for other HC characters you make?

Your Stash on HC works the exact same as it does on SC. Items inside it are safe if you die, they will be there when you make a new character. However dont forget that SC and HC stashes are seperate.
Everything you have equipped on yourself and your follower is gone forever, everything in your inventory is gone forever.
If you have never played HC before then i would advise you to survivability stats gain tremendous value compared to SC. dying isn't just a minor inconvenience anymore and your going to get into a spot where you get hit by something nasty so you had better be able to survive it for at least a few seconds while an escape skill comes off cooldown.

you spec so you don't get one shot and acknowledge that DCs are a part of the game. in hc, it isn't a matter of if you will die but when you will die.
at the highest grift levels, builds are basically the exact same as softcore. people just have testicles made of steel

You know, I feel a little bit like this with seasons. Sure death isn't permanent, but it does have a 'life-span' to me too (the end of the season). I love my Monk from Vanilla and want to have a barb at max level too, but I just can't put down the seasonal stuff and I kind of doubt I'll play my Crusader much after the end of the season.
I think I'm much too reckless for HS though, I tried and failed at that in D2 lol.

hc in d2 was a whole other beast because your party members could easily kill you with stupid tppk hacks. which effectively meant that you couldnt play with anyone you didnt know very well. aaand you needed 7 party members for effective farming, so that it was much harder to fill the slots with friends or clanmates.
that stuff fortunately is no issue in d3 hc.
edit: and ofc d3 is a much better pvm game than d2. (whereas d2 was shining in trading and pvp...)

The HC experience of feeling the adrenaline pumping in close call situations will overpower any suffering the eventual death brings.
I lost two monks to pre-patch electricity mobs with a pet WD as a teammate at grift 30~, where it took less than a second to go from 100% --> passive procc --> death. It was a really frustrating situation, but all the other situations you almost die in makes up for it.
People who play hardcore and just cruise at torment 3/grift 25~ without any challenge or risk of death are really missing out what makes hardcore fun.
|
You guys are all nuts. I die like ten times per rift.
|
Then you just aim higher than what's safe and don't play with no deaths in mind.
I haven't completed anything higher than 35~, with only 34 on time, so I obviously get handicapped timewise. It's a risk/reward thing.
Then again I also hate how monks cheat death passive is so terrible compared to all other classes beside barbs, so I have to play "safer" than say crusader friends.

How should I re-roll this? (I'm a DH)
