I started out loving the shit out of this game, my 4 man was solid, prepared and we raced through the content. I was having so much fun I couldn't believe it.
Then we all hit 60 and started inferno. No, I'm not going to complain that it's too hard, it's just fine. Act 1 is actually quite a joke aside from random mods champs that shit in your mouth. Act 2 it starts to get real dicey, but enough about the difficulty, it's fine.
My problem is their entire paradigm shift towards loot farming that is so unlike diablo 2, it's not even in the same genre. It's basically become a pseudo-MMO, and more stingy then the stingiest korean MMOs.
For those that don't know, diablo 2 loot farming was essentially boss farming, you made a game, teleported to way point ran through the zone, boss, fight, loot, good? no, ok go again. You could do this rapidly and without much grief. Maybe this doesn't sound fun to you, but diablo 2 drops are extremely rare, it's not like WoW where the boss has a loot table and 20% of the items you might want and will drop, 20% of the time. Because of this rarity in drops it was nice that runs could be quick and efficient. You have 30m before school? Why not run mepth 5-6 times, roll the dice. All was well.
Now we have Diablo 3 pseudo-mmo style. Diablo 3 FORCES you to clear trash, you can't just skip and fight a nice boss fight. Bosses are irrelevent sacks of shit that are generally some of the easiest fights in the game (another qualm I have). There is no reason for you to ever do a boss run again in Diablo 3, UNLESS you want to spend 1-2 hours gathering up 5 Nephalem Valor buffs (A magic find and bonus loot buff for slaying champion packs). These champion packs are generally the hardest mobs in the game, the real bosses if you will. However, just because you wasted 1-2 hours to prepare yourself for that epic boss fight (lol) doesn't mean you're in line for any real items. What has happened is they kept the rarity of diablo drops (good) but increase the time requirement to actually farm the items (bad). They force you to run bosses instance style like an MMO, clear trash - get to boss, oh also you'll need a tank. Yep, that's right, barbs are simply tanks. I hope you didn't roll a barb because you wanted to smash shit, you're going to tank, and you'll like it, or you'll sit in the menu.
tl;dr fast farming + low drop rate = good slow farming + high drop rate = good (not for me personally but at least in a wow heroic you know that 1hr will grant SOMEONE epics) slow farming + low drop rate = awful, terrible, holy shit are we playing diablo or a korean mmo? Aion anyone?
After 60+ hours in 3 days, I went from loving and signing diablo 3 praises, to hating the game.
PS
dont get me started on their idea of item progression (magic-rare-legendary) it's bad, real bad.
this guy hit the nail on the head. blizzard wanted to make it so everyone can farm for loot and make it faster...instead they took away better drops off of bosses, and put them onto rare mobs that can take anywhere from 5-20 minutes sometimes to kill depending upon what stupid mods they have.
also i'm rerolling because as you said, my barb? i can only tank, i tried to MF, but just have to re-make if i encounter some super strong rares (fire chains + mortar + etc etc) and then i lose my neph buff and have to restart. seriously wtf.
So glad that people are finally starting to be critical of D3. Just a week ago, whenever I said anything bad about D3, nobody would agree, and would give these stupid reasons for why Blizzard are making good decisions.
I can tell you all played D2 when an enigma was only worth 3-5 hrs (15-30 fg). Back in the day, D2 FORCED you to make a sorceress and farm meph to no end, rush people for forge and SLOWLY, and I repeat REALLY FUCKING SLOWLY build your way into a full geared hammerdin (to make it easier on yourself). And of course, it took people a while to figure a champion like Pindleskin and the rare even of the anni (although by that time, most people found dclone to be a joke). Once getting a fully geared basic, no super duper rare or crafted items for PvP kind of geared character was available to a good chunk of the players, then came uber tristam which for like a week, was somewhat hard. The game has been out for a week, I'm sorry you feel 60 hours of play were not rewarded with a rare one socket ethereal fool's weapon D3 equivalent like you had expected and that you no longer can just a move your way (or set up your own bot) to meph and pindle, but 60+ hours of a week old game is NOT enough time to complain about how you have not yet found that 100% CoA. Keep on playing, keep on looking at the AH, keep on browsing the web for that mob that continually appears on a given quest/place and is easy to kill, stop whining you're not full of epics right now.
BOOM Mephiztopheles1 droppin da truth
Just have patience children and allow this game to develop itself...
Who knows, maybe diablo start working out a bit and lose his manboobs
While i agree with the problems in shoehorning characters into roles, especially monk and barb who are tanks, im still confident since you can respec between solo and group play, and reroll a new character easily.
Most people in this thread seem to have forgotten that if you don't want to farm/play inferno, there is the option not to. Just like you can play hardcore or not. If you're too much of a whiny little cunt to go and farm some items so you can take on the hardest enemies in game, stay in hell or nightmare - there's plenty of champion demons willing to hold your hand and give you some epics for mindlessly attacking them for a few minutes.
Otherwise, shut the fuck up and go farm. You aren't MEANT to be able to just run into inferno mode and clear it, that's kind of the point of it.
99% of the people that complain about inferno being too difficult etc would also complain that the GAME IS TOO SHORT, if they completed inferno by now.
Basically, shut the fuck up.
Edit - Just want to say for the record I play barbarian. I wanted to dps, I am forced to "tank" (we can't tank.) and that fucking sucks. But I am still useful in a way to my team, not in the original RAWR DPS OLOLOLLOOL way, but in a more controlling support way. I will say though if you want to do any type of damage at end game, reroll from barbarian - you will regret it if you don't.

His posting finesse is very much lacking, but im inclined to agree, in a nicer way at least

You guys need to educate yourselves. The developers have been resolute about eliminating boss farming. The best way to get good loot is to farm champion packs, not bosses. You shouldn't be looking to fight Diablo & company unless you've already cleared everything else because they won't give you as much as a champion pack, and as some of you have already pointed out, the many combinations of random affixes can be a nightmare to deal with. The system was built this way deliberately, so that instead of spending your time in a single room the entire late portion of the game, you actually have to move about and adapt to challenges that are never the same.
Game is fantastic, im at Act 3 Hell atm, mostly soloed my way through
But i have one major gripe, the loot. Moreso the way loot drops is strange, i must have gotten about litterally 50 rare Bows yet only a few armor pieces, bosses, whether "lore" bosses or blues/rares just seem to drop...blue items, a Tome of _____ and around 300-500 gold.
What this does is sap the energy out of the game, its very dissapointing because i am already "trained" not to expect any kind of good loot. Whereas in Diablo 2 you had a hope when the last 5% of a boss life that something ******YOU WANT****** may actually drop.
And its not like everyone and their mother had every piece of gear in D2 either, unless they worked hard for it. Its just wrong that there are blue 1 one handed weapons with 750 dps on them and legendaries that only do 450. What the hell happened?
Again i love the game, the gameplay is miles ahead of that of Diablo 2 and i am not some sort of nostalgia **** who cant let go of the past. The graphics are darker than D2 and almost at the level of D1. But the loot system needs a seriously overhaul.

What was supposed to happen. Do you want everyone running around with the same legendaries again? Rares are king in D3.

Legendarys aren't supposed to be trash, though. Haven't found many yet but what i found wasn't very good.
