He also blows dick at 1v1 fights behind his creep wave at level 1 (which lets me absolutely demolish him in solo lanes right from the start with pantheon). He also has no disables or escapes meaning that if he ever misjudges damage for any reason, he pays dearly. it works both ways, like he can force 1v1 fights in front of his creep wave, flash/ghost means any champion has an escape, and saying "misjudge damage" is like saying "hes bad if you're noob" which you can say for any champion. Also proper lane control can be achieved if you ward correctly and watch the mia calls, you can pull back creep lanes pretty easily if you let their towers do some hits. no, I mean like, I get 2 RNG crits off my 2% crit chance, now he has to blow flash or die (don't mordes just run ignite/ghost anyway actually?). Jungler circles around their jungle and sneaks up behind and pops out behind Morde. I mean, shit happens and a lot of characters have a way to stun/slow and/or escape so that something unexpected doesn't ruin them. And besides, everyone misjudges standard damage every once in awhile, giving yourself no margin for error is setting the bar too high, you're only human after all.
and he can't realistically dictate where fights are going to happen. He's limitted to fighting near your creep to be effective. I know where he wants to fight and it's small compared to where he doesn't want to fight.

Personally I find that decent/good Mords just spend extra money on wards (lord knows they got plenty of money) to make sure they don't get ganked; otherwise it's almost impossible to die in lane 1v1 provided you're runing properly (mainly armor). He doesn't output much threat to the carry, per se, but played properly he should be able to just sit in the creep wave, kill them all, and then meander off to do whatever he pleases.

I dunno, he still seems very useless lategame, I've been having fun with him in pubs, and he his hilariously good at pushing lanes against bad people. The best part is when someone is at half health, Siphon, Ghost, Creeping Death, Ult, Ignite, and they don't know what just hit them and they're dead. Then you're left low health, and the other jackass will try to finish you, but your ghost of the guy you just killed wipes him out while you run. But then I get into lategame...and I've tried hybrid tank/ap, straight ap, and straight tank..and lategame he's so mediocre at all of them that he tends to just sit there in a team fight and not do much. Put your carry in a lane with him though...very hard to stop a non retarded Morde in a lane, so whoever is with you is free to farm.

Mord just kills all the creep and pushes, so no, no, no.
Mord's job is essentially to PBAoE people to death (ie. Sunfire stack); he's a solo-lane version of Garen as they both do largely the same thing. He's a bit reliant on a heavy burster to help him finish the carry ASAP, but if he can accomplish it he's on the way to turning a game around.
He doesn't fit in every team but some teams benefit tremendously from Mord.

I remember a game I dominated as pure tank in the early/midgame, but they started getting fed in lategame and my team (2 other people thanks to 2 leaves) died in 1/2 a second in teamfights. So I pushed their inhib....alone...and got it with all 5 beating on me. Their trist was already low and got lower on my thornmail, so I ulted her, she died, got a quadra, pushed nexus, ended game. My team helped with the last 2 (were defending from our 2 down inhibs before that, but that's the power of a completely fed morde.

Indeed. For example any team with a Poppy benefits tremendously from Mord.

There are a LOT of terrible posts in that thread. Basically cutting out every one line post would make the thread readable.
The only interesting suggestion current patch suggestion was wriggles as a replacement and even then, meh.

What's wrong with Wriggle's?

quick question - does morgana's black shield protect against garen's spin? i had a morgana shield on me and i could have sworn i was still taking damage from garen who was spinning, but i suppose it could have been physical damage from somewhere else. i was confused

Smash cries like a baby against Kennen and Sion.
Also, I think solo Shen is a hard-counter to solo pantheon,

Garen's spin *is* physical, lol.

As far as I know, you should take full damage from Garen's spin with your shield on. Shield only mitigates magic damage, not any damage from any ability. It stops his silence, though.
