Just because the NBA is soft now doesn't mean these moves aren't standard. And how was Fisher's hit on Nash a cheap shot? Shit just happens lol. I dunno elbows are lethal. You can let bumps and hard fouls go but elbows can put people out of games. I know its the NBA, but in the NCAA it can be an automatic ejection (happened to Manny Harris from Michigan ) That was such bs, and now he's leaving us. Whoever takes him is getting a gem. I dont think hell get drafted. Hes a good athlete but IMO didnt really improve at all at Michigan. His jumper needs a lot of work to be at the NBA level (granted it can be improved, hell look at Derrick Rose). He also needs to work on his ball handling. Seems like a tough guy though who could be around for years if he fixes his game up. He's a slasher that rebounds and plays good defense. His shot and body definitely need to improve, but I think he's always got the potential to go off. lol @ michigans best player next year being stu douglas or zach novak. I guess theres hope that Tim Hardaway Jr or Joe Dumars son could be good right away but I doubt it. I don't understand how LLP ever got accepted into Arizona.

Head to Gortat's chest, he's lucky imo, he could have went into D12's chest...

I still think Boston is going to win. This is the only game this series I can say Orlando really straight up outplayed them and it was a weird game. Boston going to crush them in Game 6.

I don't know if Orlando will get crushed, but I do think Boston will take it in 6.

Gortat is obviously a Soviet-created monster.

Someone fill me in on something. So apparently everyone is saying that the zone could be beat by a true pg that's able penetrate to score or dish out or whatever, so my question to most of you following lakers really closely, is jordan farmar not the right person to do this? I know fish is clutch with the 3's but is there something I'm missing out on that phil jacksons not putting him in more for those situations?

The Lakers are beating the Zone. Their defense is terrible and unfortunately so is Jordan Farmar.

Farmar sucks donkey shit. They need to utilize Vujacic or some other more reliable shooters so they can better beat the zone. Kobe's not gonna bail them out every game, they need people who can hit outside shots.
I think their ideal lineup to beat the zone would be Brown, Kobe, Vujacic, Odom, Gasol... that's a perfect mix of slashers / shooters.
Also, their defense as Ace said has been HORRIBLE over the past two games.
|
Wait, Xeris, you would have Vujacic guarding the players that would normally be given over to Artest? I mean, I can concede that Vujacic is somewhat of a more reliable shooter, but Artest is just so much stronger that the matchups would be broken if you substituted Vujacic in the lineup; plus he hasn't played in pretty much forever which further breaks up the effectiveness of the team.
Also, the way to beat a zone isn't to stack up as many shooters on a team as you can; that just makes you take more perimeter shots, which is what the opposing team wants when they go into a zone. In every zone there's always a way to pound the ball into the paint and take advantage of floor spacing in order to make your bigs contribute more, and the Lakers haven't found out how to do that yet.

From what I'm seeing is that PHO's defensive strategy is to pack the paint, swarm Kobe and Gasol at all costs, and live with the rest of the Lakers beating them with either contested shots in the paint or 3s. While it's true that a true PG who could penetrate the zone would be very useful at breaking the zone defense, PHO can still just pack the paint and leave the Lakers with open shots on the perimeter.
Based on my very rudimentary knowledge of basketball, I think the Lakers need to start making their open shots to spread out the Suns' defense, play some much better defense, and get some better play from everyone on the floor other than Kobe and Gasol to make the Suns pay for swarming those two so hard on defense. Like I said in my other post, I just think the Suns have outworked and just wanted to win more in the last two games. If the Lakers can match their intensity and effort, and go back to playing smarter ball, they can retake control of this series.

I think the Lakers did fine against the zone.
They just missed a ton of open shots.PHX just kept swarming Kobe and Gasol as soon as they touched the ball. If the other Laker players can start hitting some shots, the game will open up for Kobe and Gasol.

At least both of the series now will be respectable. No sweeps now and at least going to 6 either way. It was looking ugly at the start of the rounds, but now I'm back to being excited. Though the chances are still slim I'm still pulling hard for a Suns v Magic finals.

Kobe got a lot of open shots for his teammates and even if he doesn't want to, he's perfectly capable of playing that role. It's Odom and the guards that need to start hitting their shots for everyone else to get a chance.
I'm really just curious why more teams haven't used zone in the playoffs. The Pistons used to run box + 1 when they were tearing shit up before Sheed quit on Flip and fucked up the entire lockerroom against the Cavs.
