As for Flat/Scaling, the general rule is Static Quints, Scaling otherwise.

In team fights, he rolls in with crowstorm, does a crapton of damage, and then usually dies pretty damn quickly. Once his ult is over, no one really expects him to survive team battles. Not sure I agree with that, seeing as, even without his ult, a well-placed silence from Fiddle can basically win a team-fight on its own.

What's the consensus on CD redux Quints? They scale at the same rate on Quints vs. glyphs (level 13 scaling = static), and I figure I do most of my ability spamming at level 13+ so I went for scaling, but I'm curious what other people think on this decision.

Not sure about CD Quints, I haven't seen anyone use them really. I just get 6% on my glyphs, 9% from masteries for 15% on my Caster Page. Golem will max out your CD afterwards.

CD reduction is amazing but it completely depends on your item build because it caps out at 40%. Usually if you're getting a bunch of CD reduction items you don't need it, and if you plan to have the golem buff all the time you don't need it, but otherwise I love maxing out my cooldown. I play cho though, so I need it for epic rupture scream feast combos.

He has 0 CC and almost no AOE, which are the two most important elements with the current metagame due to the game falling into 5 man roaming gank/push squads once mid/late game rolls around. He also has no defensive mechanisms, so in a 5v5 team fight when everyone targets him due to his high damage he will just die instantly. Karthus's ult is nice to finish off enemies that barely get away, but other than that he has no CC and his AoE isn't very useful due to not being able to do it from range. If you actually get enough AP to do damage everyone will target you immediately which doesn't work well for you when you have to get basically in melee range of their team to be doing damage to them with your aoe. I don't play LoL at a high enough lvl for Karthus not to be useless. I like him cuz I'm raping every single attack speed champ in the game, but my build is a bit iffy. I start off with the crystal then I get sheen. From there I get merc's treads, then stark's fervor, then nashor's tooth, then black cleaver, then idk what to get. If you know a really solid build please let me know! I actually get Tiamat/resist boots/sheen/last whisper/trinity/inf edge/phantom dancer. Or instead of phantom, I get guardian angel. Depends how nuke heavy the other team is. Since Nasus already comes built in with lifesteal, I'm not so keen on spending money to buy more.

Yes Melee DPSers in general are bad in this game, there's lost of inherent problems with the design itself. Shaco and Pantheon are probably the most viable in high level, but even then not in organized play.

And you should be playing him AP anyway :D.

One of the fun things about Karthus is just the threat of his ultimate. Even if you never get kills with it, it still forces people to play much more carefully. Or have heals/shields/Veil.
