It's like dota (as the objectives are the same) but its not like dota as spells are generally less powerful but less mana intensive thus you can do more cool stuff other than auto attack.

Advice... well the biggest "culture shock" you'll find is that regen isn't very good in LoL (I believe regen items were pretty good because laning "durability" was significant in lanecontrol DotA) and you can teleport back to base at will, so you have to incorporate that into your gameplan. And for about 200-300 games you'll end playing against/with really bad players.

Mana regen you can make do completely well with Golem and Mana regen per level runes; wasting money on mana regen will usually set your build behind. There are only two AP items that give sufficient mana regen to be worth it - one is Archangel's Staff which is a really slow and otherwise pretty useless item (very niche - only see on Morgana/Zil/Ezreal), the other is Deathfire Grasp which is underused and only good for nukers anyways. HP regen you're much better-off purchasing health regen potions, as for the same cost as a normal HP regen item you're going to get much more useful regen. The main few heroes that actually pump HP regen are the two that have ults based on it (Mundo, Singed) or tank heroes that make FoN in an effort to overwhelm a caster and their magic pen.

I know how ELO works, you know, after many years of MTG and watching my own rating going up and rapidly diving back down...

First advice is to just play a couple matches to get acquainted with features of the game like brush, summoner spells, minion/turret aggro, jungle buffs from the golem and lizard, the dragon and baron, and to get a feel for the champions and what playstyle you like. After playing some games, you should focus on looking for champions to invest Influence Points on to buy.

Southlight nailed my thoughts exactly, much more action, more spell use and the game feels like goes pretty quick. It's not quite 'easymode -em' but it's not quite as farming like a normal mode. I guess now the incentive to play now is to get points to unlock the runes and champions. Not sure if I'll bother learning the best rune use and summoner skill load-out; gonna keep playing with random things. 100 games with bad players =X uggh.

1)Yes 2)Yes 3)Main differences are: No denying, spells cost way less mana but don't do as much damage (comparatively), no such thing as int/str/agi heroes, the main map is way smaller (though it's still 5v5), the jungle is smaller and there's buffs in it you can get from killing some of the monsters 4) google it yourself 5)Average games are like 30-35 mins~ 6)yes

(the difference between me and Gozey is I know exactly how bad I am.) So here's some actual content, my thoughts on a couple of champions I've been trying to learn: + Show Spoiler [Mordekaiser] + I've been trying to figure out exactly what Mord does well. As a tank, he has no initiating power, no way to keep people away from squishies, and good damage absorption which is directly based on how much damage he does. As a DPS, he has decent survivability and good base stat growth, but no chasing, no real finishing, no escaping, no steroid skill (except his ult which requires bursting someone down already and is countered by cleanse), and one ability that scales with AD and even then just hits an extra 3 targets. As a caster, he has no burst damage but good sustained damage, good survivability (basically pre-lifesteal), is countered by cleanse, has no escaping or chasing method, and has poor AP ratios. I think he's closest, in terms of gameplay, to Singed. However, unlike Singed, he scales miserably, has no CC, has no escape, and brb premade; will be continued
