tryn is better in every way then yi atm, but hes getting completely reworked, as is ryze. So yi may or may not be better after this remake not sure. as for ganking yi? impossible. if they stun. cleanse. if they do anything else, ultimate. how do you get ganked again?

i usually do a sapphire crystal to start with him so i can spam alpha, while using meditate to keep my hp up. then you get catalyst so you can lane and harass all day without fear of death. then you get to level 6 and its easy mode.

can later replaec catalyst with warmogs and pickaxe with something stronger if you need more lategame

I'll give it a shot. I think Melee carries still have it too rough though, so many CC options that can shut me down and magic melts me down fast. When I switch to Soraka, its like a walk in the park.

Melee carries have the strongest DPS skills (except for Corki's gatling), melee carries tend to have decent hp gain (Ashe level 18 has like 1700 hp), and ranged carries also get owned by CC options. Soraka's just not a carry, so it feels like a walk in the park 'cause you've got free heals/mana heal and you're too annoying/pointless to really gun after. IMO, anyways :p If anything Jax needs a nerf right now (his stun is INSANE) and Trynd's ult needs to not be owned by silence/stun. That's about the only complaints I'd have about those two... can't really think of any other melee carries.

The thing is, you only have to use one of your stuns/debuffs on Yi, to make him have to cleanse or use his ulti. Then, you just gank him while it's on cooldown.

Same goes for trynd, just scare him into using his ulti, then gank him either immediately after it's finished, or a bit later, while it's on cooldown.

but then now were talking about a completely different argument. This is assuming the yi doesnt have map awareness and/or vision wards. he'd have to be hacking at your turret to kill him before he cleanses/ultis back to his turret. any less of a distance and hes in safety.

by the time you get your ult your mostly jungling anyway and simply avoiding their gank squad

Haha I play an aggressive soraka with Starfall spam, so people always gun after me :D

Melee carries have the strongest DPS, but i say they have it hard just because of the prevalence of CC in game. I can be slowed, stunned, blinded, exhausted, knocked up, etc, which makes it hard for Jax to proc his ult fast enough. Ranged carries have the option to make the opponent come to them, while I have to get in and dirty.

Example of a team fight. Ashe can init with her giant noob ult arrow, volley, then stand at a distance spamming frost arrows to make it hard for people to get to her. Corki can do his giant aoe ult too, then phosphorus bomb to blind, then valkyrie away if people get too close. Teemo can blind, run away to his mushroom, plus he's damn fast. I on the other hand, have to leap into the frenzy, hope I don't get bursted down by a caster, get disabled by a tank, slowed/blinded by a ranged carry. A few whacks later and the squishy I'm targetting flashes away and I'm stuck there holding my lantern sadly.

I don't like Starfall Soraka because every single time I play with someone doing that I'm horrified to find that lane get squashed within 10 minutes. Bleh. Also that spell isn't actually that painful - people are fools if they go after you over an actual DPS hero. //Edit: AFAIK, anyways. I have not played against a single Starfall Soraka whose Starfall damage was actually significant.

To be honest? As a mostly ranged damage player I find most melee DPS characters absolutely brutal to play against. Obviously the dynamics of melee vs ranged differ greatly in 1v1 but Trynd/Jax/Yi definitely tend to have the upper hand end-game 1v1 against any ranged DPS.

In a team fight... I guess the biggest problem for melee DPS is that you're automatically required to do a fair amount of tanking. Also all the newbies go after you 'cause they go for closest target. I played Ashe for like 30 games in a row and by the end of it, when my Elo was decent and I was playing people who knew what they were doing... I was getting CC'd/dying in every single team fight, no matter where I stood/how late I was to a fight. Felt worse than playing a melee DPSer really, because the low HP made it even harder to do anything. Plus at least the melee DPSers have means of avoiding a decent amount of incoming damage (on top of their comparatively higher HP).

I dunno, I hardly ever, ever get outlaned when I'm Soraka. Early game, people have to towerhug against Soraka as her attack range+starfall whittles down their health. Starfall also destroys creeps so I farm up really fast early game. I can't be pushed back due to Astral, so I'm constantly pressuring. I go Locket, Merc Treads, Aegis, Frozen Heart, so I'm pretty hard to kill unless heavily ganked.

Regardless if they focus fire on me or an ally, I find that my Locket regen, summoner Heal, Wish, Astral, Blessing, Aegis/Frozen Heart aura usually keeps them alive for a long time. I also have an exhaust ready too if need be. At the same time, I'm starfalling the living shit outta them and stacking magic resist debuffs on the enemy. Almost all my steamroll games comes from Soraka as we emerge from team fights with only 1 man down to their 4 or 5, with plenty of health to spare. I'm sad they're nerfing Aegis in the next patch.

I can't imagine how anyone can get outlaned with Soraka, which makes it all the more puzzling how people are losing their tower in 7 minutes with Soraka, but yeah.

The solution to all your fragile-melee-DPS heroes: DOCTOR MUNDO. I had the most hilarious game last night. At half health, I charged into range of both nexus turrets to finish off a half health Jax, got a lucky crit and dropped him. Got stunned. Got slowed. Got stunned again. Activated ult, while the three living enemies (Blitz, Ashe, Ryze) attacked me with everything they had. I was so fed that the regen from my ult outweighed their combined DPS. With the help of our Ryze, TRIPLE KILL!

They immediately surrendered.

I've been rocking up a storm with Morgana lately. Favorite champion by far! I don't always get too many kills, but I rarely die, (unless I do something really stupid), and I get loads of assists. And then late game once I've got my staff of ages, my orb/soil/ult combo can pretty much wipe out anyone with less than 3k hp.

yea morgana is the competitive version of ryze. but ryze is getting a remake so he might be more viable then just noob bashing soon

I don't think playing starfall soraka is the way to go. Support soraka is definitely better i remember this one game where i survived a warwick and malphite chasing after me with my astral blessing...was pretty funny.
