I didn't notice auto aim. And I only got a few sniper rounds in, but the hitboxes for the head didn't seem particularly huge.

People dying faster to bullets is better anyway. Hardcore mode with a bolt action is the best

I have almost only been playing recon so far with my m40. I have 800 kills so far and 40% of those are from head shots. As far as I can remember I have been trying to aim for the upper body most of the time. I guess I could have subconsciously aimed for the head, from playing too much Counter Strike in my youth, or maybe I just happen to hit the head a lot, since that's usually the only part of an opponent you see if he is hiding behind a rock or wall. It still feels a bit strange though.

Not that I have a problem with it. I don't think snipers are too strong or anything.

the hitboxes are slightly larger and since the game uses a strange netcode the hitboxes is displaced if your ping is too low/high (the standard setting is 65 ms if I am not mistaken, which is ofc too high for a lot of servers).

Thanks for all the feedback regarding tracer darts.

I'm actually amazed how the PC community is winning that race for The Battle of Hastings. Judging from what I'm seeing on the battlefield, I'm wondering where all those team actions are coming from - certainly not my games (except for my ammo/medic/spot/repairs).

The worst are medics; not only unable to drop a medkit when neccessary, but also braindead. The majority of medics will either revive me in the middle of enemy fire / mortar strike / helicopter attack / tank shelling, or will charge into the enemy lines with LMG blazing while ignoring the own team. Or they'll do both.

Dang it was 20% more dmg?... wtffff. I use it with the red dot on smaller maps and the 4x scope on bigger maps. I prefer it over the M16 or the M416. Awesome gun!

search for "ruebenhacker regiment" (have both conquest and rush), both servers have a class limit on sniper.

suchtlbude is another rush server, but sniping isn't possible at all (if you do a kill with a sniper rifle or a shotgun with sabot ammo you will get instabanned (automated)).

both are german, but english language is also spoken. oh and both are for vietnam. I do believe they also have bc2 servers, but I haven't checked/can't confirm this, but I would assume they also have the no/limit sniper script enabled

I don't see the point in limiting a server to a certain number of snipers or completely banning sniping. I laugh every time I join a server with "rules" like

- max X snipers
- no C4 vehicle
- no RPG infantry

etc.

Sure it sucks if the other team is sniping a lot, but it's not as if you can't adapt. Either go recon yourself, take a moment to analyze movement paths before sprinting across open terrain, or just kill them with non-sniper weapons. Most people chosing recon aren't long range sniping gods, will easily become nervous under fire and can usually be taken out with an assault weapon + scope. At least that's true for me - I suck at sniping and only choose it when neccessary (spotting, mortar, too much action going on and I need a break after multiple deaths in close quarter combat).

A server limiting the number of snipers or enforcing other rules will just kill tactical play. "Hey, we need a recon for a mortar on that tank blocking the choke point" - "Sry, recon spots are full, one is afk, the rest has C4 equipped."

Ok, that certainly sucks even more. But at least your back's covered and some spotting will happen (unless they're braindead). And if they insist on being useless and just playing sitting duck, you can always change the server.

A "no-sniper-rule" won't stop bad players from being bad, they might screw up your team even more if they'd run around as assault/medic/engi.

I always roll Recon and go CQC. Usually with a Shotgun or G3.

Like I said, assuming you hit 25% more your overall DPS will remain the same as with magnum ammo, so 25% damage comes out ahead.
But it is far easier to hit while running when using accuracy bonus. That's what I tried to say, and you try not to understand I guess. For people standing and shooting at each other, your statement is correct. But if you never stand still, this will never be an issue. Combined with the low skill level you mentioned, accuracy bonus + running is, in my opinion, far better than the damage bonus, as people for some reason can't hit moving targets anymore and always hold still for taking aim (opposed to Quake or Unreal Tournament players). This is your timing window you can abuse, the time they need to switch into aiming mode and get a "lock" on you is enough to spray 2 or 3 volleys at them, eventually killing them right with the first. Your cross-hair getting smaller when taking the accuracy bonus helps out a lot too. So does the fact that their screen is getting shaken when hit. This is also possible with the damage upgrade, but I find that I perform far better with the accuracy bonus when doing this.
When using the AK-47 however, the damage upgrade is more important, as the damage output gets so insanely high it doesn't matter if half of your bullets miss. 2 Hits on the upper half of the body is usually enough, and you can get out about 5 shots before the spray really kicks in.

If fighting at extreme ranges (e.g. sniper vs assault rifle) you might be at an disadvantage, but then again you can just walk out of the line of fire and get closer.

I only use G3 with Assault class, as I find myself always low on ammo when fighting with it, same goes for Shotguns. Especially the automatic ones Saiga or USAS.
The combination of single shot Shotguns with the Grach as sidegun and switching after every shotgun load fired is very fun.
When in doubt, empty your magazine.

I played some squad deathmatch (?) last night. 4v4v4v4 and it's pretty awesome.
If you have a friend or two, give it a go because it's actually pretty sick, I could definitely see myself playing it a hell of a lot more

I can only speak for HQ, were magnum ammo beats decreased spray everytime. I don't know where you play, but I don't have a lot of problems hitting running targets. For SQ this might be valid, idk about that, don't play SQ.

Ah, okay, you play SQ, nevermind then

/e So I see I am not the only one who spams smoke grenades when he is annoyed by teamsnipers :D in Vietnam I just run infront of them till they get spotted/shoot me (most servers have a pretty low tk limit)

Recon is a good class, the problem is and always has been sniper rifles. They encourage people to sit as far away from objectives as possible. Most people can't hit shit when they snipe in BC2, so they get maybe 8-10 kills an entire game. They are effectively dead weight. Doubly so in Rush. Unfortunately in vietnam I can't spam them with smoke grenades

I think the problem is there's a certain allure to being a sniper. Be honest, the idea of being the impossibly patient "lone wolf" is pretty awesome.

Then again, I like to go red dot or ACOG on sniper rifles. I don't hard scope, I always quick scope or try to no scope.

I usually play assault, though. My general play style works better when I'm effective at short/medium range and gave some actual firepower. That or I just CG spam. >:O

Yeah, that's the thing. Most wookies are in fact braindead, and care only about the K/D ratio. They could be on defense, standing right next to an MCOM that is armed, and continue sniping.

No offense, but it sounds like a lot of TLers are the kind of recon teammates that I rage at. Anyone here like to play primarily assault/medic, drop lots of ammo/med kits, and focus on arming/disarming MCOMs?
