paralleluniverse, your post just screams of ignorance and lack of perspective. Either that, or it's a troll that you spent a lot of time working on.

Untrue. I heard about "endgame" long before then. Like many "WoW terms", it actually started in Everquest.

So, 4 hours till release? Mmm, anyone excited?D
Also, join the steam group for tl. Simply put TLTL2 in the group search and you'll find it. 3 members so far.

Oh and wtf with that last rant post, how in the name of Leonidas does modding ability kill a game, lol.

My point was more to the fact that every time a game comes out now this term gets thrown around. "what's the endgame? / Why is there no endgame? / The endgame is stale and boring" and from my experience it always seems to be the wow players that are asking. Probably because there is so many of them especially in comparison to everquest players. I didnt mean to imply that they somehow created the phrase, I just worded it poorly.

Because some people seem to think that you must cheat because it is possible and other people being better than you in a single player (cooperative versus AI) is the end of the world. They're so focused on being the best that they lost the meaning of playing the game.

The real beauty of this game and elder scrolls as I mentioned earlier is that you play how you want. If you want to skip to max level, make broken items, and kill monsters then you can. If instead you want to challenge yourself by playing legit elite mode then you can do that as well. If you get stuck on elite somewhere and need a little boost then you can throw yourself a bone so you can enjoy the game. Your only limitation is what you pigeon hole yourself into. If you're like me and want to do a bit of everything then you can do that as well. The people who have some random idea about how a game should be and then apply it to everyone just annoys me to no end.
I'll always be your shadow and veil your eyes from states of ain soph aur.

DAFAQ! I thought it was 20 already, aaargh, what am I gonna do now!!!! 1st world problems11!1!

And here's runic's response to that rant in the previous page

So, I'll make a big response.

To start with, I'd dispute the claim that 'virtually all playtime will be spent in endgame'. What does endgame mean to you here? Sitting at max level and killing the same things over and over again?
Because if that's what you mean by endgame, then you are absolutely right, we don't have one. I mean, you can do that. We have random maps and we allow you to NG+ ad-infinitum so that you can whack things to death at level 100 to your heart's content. I don't think that's fun, or something that I want to be doing, so we aren't making a game that focuses on that. We want you to play the game AGAIN. That's the point of randomization. That's why we don't allow full respecs. That's why we built a ridiculous amount of randomized content so that your next playthrough feels fresh, and not like a complete retread. What's the 'endgame' of Nethack?

To be clear, I understand that many people enjoy that. That's fantastic, and there are MANY games that cater to that specific need. But we aren't, and never will be, one of them - nor have we ever pretended to be, or aspired to be.

Official word on PVP - we've had an official word on PVP for ages. Our official word is and has always been, it's sort of there, you can do it, and we allow you to flag regions as forced-PVP if you want in mods, but it isn't the experience we're making. We aren't balancing our skills around killing other players - we're balancing them around killing hordes of monsters. Those are very different things.

Cheating. We have again maintained that we are NOT providing a closed ecosystem. Again, there are other games that do this - and they were willing to shoulder the tradeoffs that you MUST MAKE to provide this. We weren't interested in those tradeoffs or that burden. They were not in keeping with the kind of game we wanted to make. We have never pretended or proposed that we would make a closed game and have been at great pains to make sure that people understand we are NOT providing it. We have endeavored to give you tools to play with only the people you want to, and to eject cheaters from your game and never see them again.

The idea that mods somehow reduce the longevity of a game is something I don't understand at all, and can't think of a single instance of it being true, ever. And EVEN IF IT WERE TRUE I WOULDN'T CARE! I like mods.

If the idea of another person cheating at a game invalidates all of your enjoyment of the game you are playing, I don't even know what to do with that. How does anyone ever enjoy a game of Solitaire? I mean, you can just TURN OVER THE CARDS! The rules are not enforced! How can anyone read a novel? You can just FLIP TO THE END! More to the point - anyone out there in the world could be flipping to the end before you!

If a strictly enforced online environment that prevents any other player from cheating or modifying the files is required for your enjoyment, then this game will NOT be fun for you I guess, and that's ok!

That's not the game we made. I'm all right with that.

We don't need the game to provide unlimited replayability for all time in order to feel that we succeeded at our goals, or for this to be successful for us. We think it's really fun, and super-replayable, and we like it and enjoy playing it. That's enough for us.

Well put!

When there is a lack of structure some people just get lost. That's why blizzard south's spinoff of the diablo series is so mind numbingly simple and linear. There aren't even random levels FFS, how you have a game called diablo with static level design.....ugh I just wish I never even played that game.

Fuk what haters say. I like TL1, I was never gonna purchase TL2 since I am a Blizzard fanboy and bought D3 at release. But D3 is...meh.

So I just bought TL2 on stream, pre-loading the game right now. And this come with TL1 which is a plus, since I've never finished TL1. Hopefully I can find that D2 feeling on TL2.

That's kind of a shitty argument since Nethack is hard as fuck. The few games that have real longevity and don't have an endgame do so through difficulty. (nethack and the souls games are examples)

If simply beating the game is a challenge, you don't need an endgame. TL2 looks like TL1 in that I'll spend a few hours beating the game easily, and then toss it aside. That's why it's worth $20, not $60.

jalstar if you are comparing tl2 to d3 then imo i spent the worst 60$ of my life for d3. And thanks to that i will never buy a product from blizzard ever again.

D3 lasted a long time but wasn't fun at all. TL2 looks like a lot of fun but I think I'll be done with it much faster than D3. Also I joined the group.

Different strokes for different folks. D3 bored the living hell out of me by time I finished normal difficulty I quit the game. Never even bothered to make a 2nd character. I think I'll be playing torchlight 2 a hell of a lot more. It's just more involved , more fun. Really enjoyed the beta and since then they have made the existing skills even better by giving them tier bonuses.

Shits gonna be good. =)

I guess it's a good thing that Elite is pretty damned hard then, isn't it? ;P

People became more obsessed with "end game" when games started to become easier. No longer is getting to and defeating a final boss enough because no longer are games made where that feat is challenging it's now an entitlement to be able to play and beat the whole game no matter how terrible you are at said game.
