Is what I've experienced, anyways. The most annoying thing about gunners personally is the gatling gun, but the damage output on that is slowly balancing out as I've leveled, so it's not as game-ending anymore. Edit: You can also tell when they're trying to Windmill you, because they'll be running at you on a different Y plane.

It's fun whining, and none of the gunners have spoken up yet (unless you're a gunner) It's like whining about TvP except the protosses aren't complaining

I'm sorry, but the extent of your advice is "hope your opponent throws out unsafe moves and then punish them." I mean, really? When your only strategy is to rely on your opponent's incompetence then you know something is wrong. ~And like, then you make the claim that gunner, who has the single-best y-axis covering melee move in the game, is not good at covering the y-axis. Really?

IIRC the gatling is mostly (all?) fixed damage so it isn't going to get a lot stronger over time, whereas your gear/stats/HP are going to take more and more of the bite out of it. armed_: My advice isn't "hope they do something" when they literally have nothing else they can do that is threatening to you if you space yourself well. And if they aren't throwing out Windmill/grenades, what else do you have to worry about? If you played/were good at fighting games, you'd know that baiting out moves is just how the game is played. Nobody good is like "bawwww Ryu's DP is too good because it beats all my moves" when they know it's punishable on block/whiff, and even good players can be drawn into throwing it out at the wrong time. Step up your mindgames, movement, execution, spacing, poking/footsies, patience, map control, etc. I'm not telling you to rely on your opponent's incompetence, I'm telling you to grow out of your own incompetence.

Yep, the only problem is all my spells (witch) are fixed damage, and they haven't been buffed by patches yet, so I'll get pwnd later on too. Early on Gatling was like insta-death if I got caught in it; now it's not, so I'm pretty much unafraid of most gunners, except for I think Spitfires with their crazy-long combo.

I hate that dungeon so much. there is almost always 1-2 people that die before the boss, have no token, and get carried the rest of the way or the group fails.

Stop making blanket assumptions about people who disagree with you. Baiting and punishing is all well and good, but when your one option is to wait for them to throw out their moves at unsafe moments you're screwed against an experienced gunner with a safe playstyle. You cannot rely on it as your sole way of getting in damage. The fact is against gunners it's extremely difficult to create openings when they aren't just handing them to you; their attacks have great range, priority and damage potential and will stuff you a lot of the time if you're not 100% safe(and let's not even get into mechanic zoning.) Sure it's not impossible to deal with, but that doesn't change the fact that it is very hard(protip: gunner is top tier) and it doesn't mean that anyone who whines about it is bad.

Also armed mains elementalist and his not some terribad player. There are simply some terrible matchups at lower lvls and most of it involves gunners and windmill which alot of classes have no answer for.

I think you stay too far away >_> And you spam your pillar too much... The presence of pillar is a very big defense point, but you spam it every time it reloads it seems like (and usually without a prayer of landing it), so after you cast it most people can just rush in without having to be afraid. You need to just hold Wall and Pillar and hit them more often with them... use your other spells/skills to pressure positionally. I know you don't like gunner Y-axis, for instance, but both of you have strong enough horizontal spells that it's really not favourable for either of you to stand in each other's way. That's where you have the slight advantage (when slightly distant - not off-screen though) where your cheap spam spells can go diagonally... you just have to be careful you don't spam because if you miss they'll go for a Windmill or a grenade. Likewise they have to use Windmill or Grenade against you (or Landrunners), but if they try to Windmill you should be able to land a Pillar on them almost every single time. I really don't think either player has great initiative in Ele vs Gunner, so... :< IE. For example against most eles I usually try to bait them to Ice Wall by placing stuff all over the map (Rain + Lava + Shuru) but eventually there comes a point where I simply have to suck it up and attack. And if they whiff on an Ice Wall, I wait for it to go down and then I just have the Pillar and the random Thunder crap to be afraid of - the latter of which I can outrange with my weapon. So it comes down to their ability to land Pillars. But two? weeks ago when we were playing 4v4 Elis I noticed you'd almost never have the Pillar when you need it... so other people just go pew pew pew once Ice Wall goes down. Edit: Obv having the level 35 skills will give you a stronger ranged spell compared to what you have now, so it'll be much easier than the reactive position you're stuck in atm.

Lvl 35 skills aren't terribly useful, but fire pillar AoE(edit: and frosty homing) increases noticeably with level so it gets much easier to land.

I've not seen a PvP witch use a single new skill past level 30 in videos.
